Waiting for your reincarnation - Chapter 1
Ever since she became an adult, Yeon-young has often had the same dream.
She dreamed that she was walking side by side with a man through a vast, green field with no end in sight.
She walks for a long time without saying a word to the man.
When she came to the field, the man spontaneously grabbed her hand.
As if savoring the soft touch of her hand, the man held still and ran his thumb regularly across the back of her hand.
The strong sunlight in the field made it impossible to see the man’s face.
Yet it all felt natural and familiar to her. It was as if she had loved him for a very long time.
Maybe that’s why she couldn’t bring herself to touch him.
The time in the dream passed quickly.
They walked until the sun set, and when night fell, the man led her to a white pillar.
The pole was strung with countless iridescent electric cords.
It was a beautiful pillar like an electric pole in the middle of a field.
Yeon-young smiled bloodily, thinking it was strange, even in her dreams.
The man with silky blonde hair always waved goodbye in front of the pillar.
A light kiss to say goodbye.
He turned his head slightly and approached her. She squeezed her eyes shut, knowing what was coming next.
A firm, warm hand wrapped around the nape of her neck, and at the same time, she felt the touch of soft flesh on her lips.
Her fingertips tingle as their warm, moist lips meet.
It was a very respectful and affectionate sensation, and despite the fact that it was a very dry kiss, with no tongue involved her whole body was on fire.
After a very long time, the man whose lips she had been touching slowly pulled away.
She still couldn’t recognize who he was or even what he looked like, but she had a hunch that if she ever met him, she would recognize him at once.
“We will definitely meet again.”
Yeon-young nodded slightly, hoping that the man’s prayer, which was more like a wish than a prayer, would come true.
Before she knew it, she was awake. It was a dream she often had as an adult.
“I’ve definitely had that dream again. Are you really here?”
Yeon-young looked around the wide, open field with a puzzled expression. It was both mysterious and peaceful.
After the car accident, she had awakened to find the same field that had appeared in her dreams, waiting for her.
For a brief moment, she considered the premise that this was also a dream, but then she was pulled back to reality.
“Ow…”
A sharp pain spread across her cheek. It hurt so much that she pinched the spot to distinguish between reality and delusion.
She couldn’t tell exactly where she was, but she wasn’t in a dream.
Yeon-young rubbed her hot back and lightly touched the grass. She woke up lying in the field, and the grass was warm where she touched it, as if she’d been lying on an electric grid.
The plants were warm. It’s unimaginable that plants have body heat.
Like an eco-friendly, high-efficiency electric plate.
She left the field, feeling soft and warm.
As she stretched out, she felt her eyes meet the light green dew on the blades of grass.
Just as she was about to dismiss it as a mistake, she saw something moving in the grass.
Upon closer inspection, she realized that there were thousands of little lights moving through the grass, revealing themselves as living, breathing creatures.
“Bu-bug?”
“Ming!”
Thinking she was facing a mass of thousands of bugs, Yeon-young jumped to her feet in surprise, tripping over her own legs in the process.
As she fell, the lights bounced near her fall. As if worried, they rubbed themselves against her sprained ankle.
The balls of light, of varying sizes, thankfully did not appear to be bugs.
She doesn’t know what to call them if she doesn’t call them lights, but after observing them from a distance, she decided that they were.
Moving and non-moving lights.
She was able to divide the lights in the forest into these two categories, with the moving lights generally being slightly larger than the non-moving lights.
At most, they were a little smaller than the palm of her hand.
On the outside, they glowed as if they contained a tiny sliver of sunlight, but to the touch, they felt like bouncy balls.
“What are you guys doing?”
“Ming!”
Unlike her, who was wary of them, the lights reacted very favorably to her from the start.
They clung to her like a friendly puppy and patted her on the back. When she got up to explore her unfamiliar surroundings, they followed her.
The cuter the creature the better, and there was no reason for her to dislike them, so it was only a matter of time before they bonded.
“Let’s go a little further ahead.” she said.
If this really was her dream world, there should be a white pillar just a little further on.
If that’s the case, then the blond man…
Shaking her head, Yeon-young stopped thinking and walked forward. After walking a short distance through the seemingly empty field, she saw a white pillar that she hadn’t seen before.
It was the pole she had seen in her dream. The pole resembled a modern telephone pole.
Its surface was carved with geometric patterns without any white space, and the lights climbed up one pole after another.
At the top was a myriad of iridescent wires, each light traveling on a different wire.
Plants with warmth, moving masses of light. It was all too clear that this was not her world.
As she walked, the lights on the grass gave her a path.
Standing in front of the telephone pole, she put her hand on the pole, hoping it would be warm, and it was.
That’s when she noticed a cold pink thread bracelet on her right wrist. Her ex-boyfriend, Woojin, had given it to her for good luck.
And that’s when she remembered the last thing she needed to confirm that this wasn’t the real world, as her head hurt like it was going to crack.
“That’s right, I’m dead.”
***
A few hours before the car accident, Yeon-young had made a promise to her ex-fiancee Woojin.
It had been months since they’d broken up over his infidelity, and he’d finally called to ask for the expensive ring he’d given her when they were dating.
Strangely, nothing happened that day. The mail at work gets misdirected, the phone gets broken, the car gets stuck in traffic, and she’s late for an appointment.
Woojin kept arguing with Yeon-young about how he was offended that she made him wait.
“You’ve been inconsiderate since we started dating.” Woojin said.
So was he so considerate that he cheated on her with her best friend?
Unable to deal with Woojin for long, she threw the ring away and left the cafe thinking about the relationship that ended in vain.
It was almost 2 a.m., so there weren’t many cars, and she wasn’t sleepy, so she didn’t expect to get into an accident.
As she was organizing her thoughts, Yeon-young noticed her wrists on the steering wheel.
She noticed that the pink thread bracelet Woojin gave her was emitting a white light. Literally glowing.
She thought it was the moonlight, so she looked closer to see what it was.
BANG!
She heard a loud bang and felt the car go airborne for a second.
She lost her grip on the steering wheel and her body went limp under the seat belt.
The next thing she knows, she’s slamming into something hard and the pain is palpable.
When she finally opened her eyes and looked in front of her, she realized that the car had hit a utility pole.
Surprisingly, the pole was leaning against the bumper of the car, glowing like the thread bracelet.
She opened her eyes and saw the field waiting for her.
“Heh…” Yeon-young didn’t immediately recognize the sudden memory.
She could hear the lights screaming for her safety. Her hands barely gripped the surface of the pole as she opened her eyes.
A low, watery voice, carried in the wind, pierced her ears. “I told you we could meet again.”
“What?”
Through the blur of her vision, the man from her dream was walking toward her in the distance.
