Upon Returning Home As A Military Major General, I Was Told To Attend School, Even Though It’s Quite Late Now - Chapter 121
Chapter 121. Toshi-nii And The Jungle♪
“Exciting!”
“Yuu-sama, you’re saying that out loud.”
Hayami-san pointed this out in a tone of exasperation, but I couldn’t help it.
“Sorry, Hayami-san. But Toshi-nii is coming over today! The room’s clean, right? I bought Toshi-nii’s favorite Kanazawa Kaga Boucha from the department store. Is that good enough?”
“Hmph… I can’t help but feel jealous of Toshi-nii, making you so jittery, Yuu-sama…”
Recently, after Takamine Principal briefed me on the rescue mission for Toshi-nii’s sister, Captain Kohako Sara, who is in the Junker Fortress, I contacted Toshi-nii, and he said he’d come over right away.
As for his teaching job at the cadet school, he said he’d take some paid leave, but with my major general rank, I arranged it so that he’d temporarily leave his original post without using his vacation time.
This is exactly when I need to make use of my unnecessarily high position.
“Yawn… Good morning, Yuusuke. What’s going on? A guest this early?”
“Morning, Misuzu. Haven’t you been waking up later and later recently?”
“Staying up late to surf the web is bliss.”
“Apparently, it’s called ‘browsing’ now.”
“Huh, Yuusuke, you’re so knowledgeable.”
“I returned to normal life about half a year earlier than you, so when I came back, I was amazed at online videos, too.”
“The room seems cleaner than usual. Is today’s guest that important?”
“Yeah. He’s my benefactor. Toshi-nii… though that’s just his nickname, you might not know him. Colonel Kohako is coming.”
“Kohako…”
“You know him, Misuzu? Toshi-nii’s reputation must even extend to enemy nations.”
“Relative of Captain Sara Kohako? Of the Junker Fortress?”
“Wait, Misuzu, you know about Toshi-nii’s sister?”
“Yeah. She was famous as a formidable enemy woman.”
“Enemy?”
“I was part of the Eastern Alliance military, so I was involved in the assault on Junker Fortress.”
“Oh, right… Wait, isn’t Toshi-nii’s sister captured by the Hao tribe?”
“I don’t know the situation.”
“I’ll explain that part.”
“Oh, Toshi-nii! Welcome!”
“I let myself in. Seriously, though, the front door was left open. You’re an important figure in the country now, so take your security more seriously.”
“Since it’s our first in-person reunion in a while, can’t you set the mood a bit more, Toshi-nii? Like, ‘Glad you’re still alive, brother!’ or something.”
“If you wanted me to be nostalgic, don’t keep sending meaningless emails to my official account.”
While exchanging banter with the already-arrived Toshi-nii, I brewed some coffee.
“Here. Your favorite mocha, no sugar or milk.”
“Mmm…”
“Yuusuke, you look happy taking care of him.”
“Ah, Misuzu, you picked up on it too, meeting Toshi-nii for the first time? I guess our relationship is pretty obvious to outsiders.”
“Don’t say something so creepy like you’re an office lady pressuring her boyfriend to marry her.”
“Grrr… Yuu-sama’s carefree rapport with you is making me jealous…”
“Calm down, Hayami.”
After enjoying coffee in a relaxed atmosphere, Toshi-nii got down to business.
“I’m sorry my family is causing you trouble, Major General Kamiya. Colonel Kohako from the military cadet school. From here on, I’ll be under your command.”
“A… a senior figure bowing to me for work is giving me chills. Say it again, Toshi-nii.”
“I’m getting goosebumps, so let’s go back to normal speech. Of course, I’ll follow your orders.”
Damn it. I should’ve recorded that.
“First, some information about my sister, Captain Sara Kohako.”
“So, Toshi-nii’s sister is also in the military?”
“Though, whether she’s still considered a formal soldier now is questionable.”
“What do you mean?”
With a grim expression, Toshi-nii continued.
“My sister Sara was part of the Army’s Special Operations Group.”
“Wow, that’s amazing! That’s above the paratroopers, the military’s top ace unit!”
“Sara was sent as a military advisor to the Hao tribe for a mission. Together with them, she helped build the formidable Junker Fortress.”
“Whoa…”
“The Eastern Alliance Army knew about it. The fortress, built to take advantage of the natural terrain, and the high morale of its troops were well-known.”
When I expressed my amazement at Toshi-nii’s story, Misuzu jabbed at me for being Japanese and not knowing this.
“So, why does that lead to her not being considered a regular soldier?”
“After the fortress was built and enough achievements were made, my sister received orders to return home from the government. However, she refused.”
“What!? Why?!”
“I don’t know. But since then, communication has been cut off.”
“Does that mean she was captured by the Hao tribe?”
“No… knowing my sister, I feel like it’s something far more unexpected.”
Toshi-nii muttered this, a conflicted look crossing his face.
“Well, that’s about it for the briefing. Shall we go?”
“Go? It’s a distant foreign country, you know.”
“That’s where Hayami-san’s evolved spatial transfer technique comes in. It can now handle multiple people. Once we’re geared up, we’ll depart. Let’s bring some sweets. We’ll be in the jungle right after we leave, so please prepare some non-melting treats, Hayami-san.”
“Understood.”
“You’re as carefree as ever…”
“Toshi-nii and the jungle~♪”
As Toshi-nii let out a sigh, I cheerfully dragged out my backpack and began eagerly packing.
“Good luck with the march. I’m going back to sleep.”
“What are you talking about, Misuzu? You’re coming too.”
“Why?!”
“Like I said before, when I took you in, the condition was that I’d always be monitoring you. So, you’ve got to accompany me on this mission.”
“…But, I don’t think I should go this time. If we’re dealing with the Hao tribe at Junker Fortress…”
“What, Misuzu? Are you scared to go to the jungle for the first time in person?”
“That’s not it…”
“Don’t worry. The Hao tribe are nice, peaceful people. The food’s so-so, but the chai is great. Alright, let’s gear up and get moving!”
After that, Misuzu fell silent, so I figured I had convinced her. I happily continued packing my gear.
“Well, good luck on the mission. I’m taking a nap.”
“Nope, you’re coming, Misuzu.”
“Why!?”
“Because I’m always keeping an eye on you, remember?”
“Ugh…”
