Upon Returning Home As A Military Major General, I Was Told To Attend School, Even Though It’s Quite Late Now - Chapter 119
Chapter 119. Playing Judge
“Alright. The court is now in session. The defendant, step forward.”
“…What is this? A mock court-martial?”
After school.
Misuzu, having been stopped by her homeroom teacher, Hayami-san, for a chat, found herself being led into the club room of the Soul Armor Research Club before she even realized what was happening.
The room had been arranged to resemble a courtroom, with desks and chairs placed accordingly.
“Don’t worry, Miss Second Little Girl. I’ve provided you with a defense attorney.”
“I haven’t been told a single thing about this. What is going on?”
Suo-senpai, acting as her defense attorney, looked just as clueless as Misuzu. Holding a pocket-sized law book in one hand, wearing fake glasses, and a replica badge on his chest, he appeared utterly bewildered.
“Your Honor, I have serious doubts about my attorney’s competence. I request his immediate dismissal from this case.”
“The defendant’s request is denied. This court is convened for the public good, to admire my dear brother’s intellectual lawyer persona.”
Misuzu, the defendant, failed to grasp the situation and tried to dismiss the unreliable-looking Suo as her attorney. However, her request was swiftly overruled by Marin, dressed in a black judge’s robe.
The black robe, symbolizing impartiality in the justice system, was supposed to represent fairness, but this particular judge was merely using the situation to satisfy her own desires.
“Still, you’ve put a lot of effort into this skit.”
“Well, since I get to take photos of my brother looking all smart and lawyer-like, I pulled some strings to make the set TV-drama quality.”
“You even made a gallery section?”
“A judge with a brother complex and a sister-loving attorney! This is corruption! Impeach them both!”
“Silence in the gallery. If you disrupt again, you’ll be removed from the court for contempt.”
Mina, whose only role seemed to be shouting heckles, was also present as part of the gallery.
“Where’s Yuusuke? And Kotomi?”
“Yuu-sama and Hinoura-san are attending a supplementary training class for the missions they missed.”
“What?! Supplementary training, just the two of them after school? That sounds way worse! I’m going to interrupt!”
After hearing Hayami-san’s response, the gallery heckler left the room.
With the gallery empty, the trial continued.
“Now, Prosecutor, please state the facts.”
“Yes. The defendant, Hirasaku Misuzu, is suspected of playing ‘baby head-pats’ with my future husband and adorable baby, Major General Kamiya Yuusuke, during the recent Okinawa trip, temporarily indulging in an emotional outburst.”
“I don’t even know where to start with that, but wouldn’t it be fine if Yuusuke consented?”
As Prosecutor Hayami-san made her ridiculous argument, Suo, the defense attorney, massaged his temples as though suppressing a headache and countered.
“Kyaa~~! Onii-chan, you’re so cool! Keep it up!”
Despite having already warned the gallery, this time it was the judge herself who cheered from the bench. The sound of her phone’s camera clicking rapidly filled the room.
“Major General Kamiya Yuusuke is still pure and innocent, and due to being subjected to the strange ‘big sister’ attribute by the defendant, a rare ‘loli-sis’ figure, he has temporarily fallen into sexual confusion and cannot make sound judgments. Thus, any consent in this situation should be deemed invalid.”
“Isn’t it a bit of a stretch to call Kamiya ‘pure and innocent’?”
“Your Honor! The defense attorney just insulted the victim!”
“Prosecutor, calm down. It was just a question. If we nitpick every little thing, this trial will never progress. I’ve already taken enough pictures of my brother as a lawyer, so honestly, I don’t care about the rest. I just want to go home and edit the photos on my computer.”
With the judge, having lost most of her motivation to continue the farce, the trial sped up.
“Anyway, I’m perfectly fine in the big sister role, so I seek the defendant’s deportation from the country.”
“Defendant, do you have anything you wish to say?”
“Well, I’ve come to understand that Yuusuke has a rather hard time with troublesome women.”
“”Pfft!””
Both the defense attorney and the judge, unable to hold back their laughter, turned away as they snickered at Misuzu’s comment.
“Yuusuke and I are alike. We both possess immense Soul Armor powers, which forced us to work for the country from a young age. Because of that, I think he views me as special.”
“Huh? Are you trying to take the high ground, Little Girl Number Two?”
“It’s just an analysis of the facts. But at the same time, I’ve realized that, despite our similarities, Yuusuke and I have a fundamental difference.”
Ignoring Hayami-san’s now borderline inappropriate behavior as both prosecutor and homeroom teacher, Misuzu continued.
“And what’s this fundamental difference between you and Kamiya?”
Despite having lost interest in the trial, Marin suddenly seemed intrigued and asked Misuzu.
“The scale at which we influence the world. I can only impact a nation’s fate at best. But he likely carries something far larger.”
“…Is that your analysis as a member of the Eastern Union?”
Marin’s expression shifted from her usual playful demeanor to something more serious as she asked.
“It’s simply my personal view after spending time with Yuusuke.”
“I see. Then perhaps it wasn’t such a bad thing that you made contact with Kamiya after all.”
With a slight, affectionate tone, Marin looked down at the defendant from the judge’s bench, her previously sharp aura softening.
“With that, the court is adjourned.”
“Your Honor! We haven’t delivered a verdict yet!”
“A verdict? Hmm… not guilty. Oh, by the way, I paid for this courtroom set out of my own pocket, so please help with the cleanup, Hayami-san. Oh, and Onii-chan, make sure to take your costume home with you. I’ll be using it later.”
“What on earth would you use a judge and lawyer costume for? It’s a bit too plain for Halloween.”
Though this whole setup had been designed to fulfill her personal desires, Marin left the courtroom looking satisfied, having gained more than she expected. She exited alongside her brother, casually delivering the final verdict.
