The glaring text on the screen was harshly eye-catching, but Alaric didn’t feel too disheartened.
“This is normal.”
After all, he wasn’t a magus of the Atlas Institute, so getting such a result from using the Trismegistus Hermes system was expected. Completely normal.
Yet, the screen, so unbearably close, seemed like a mocking face with no features, ridiculing Alaric’s ignorance.
“Sir Alaric!”
Holmes rushed over, Alaric’s presence radiating a discomforting mix of draconic majesty and magical power. He grabbed Alaric and pulled him away, cutting off his view of the screen.
“Sir Alaric, you aren’t originally from this Singularity! You were transferred here through unknown means, yet you know so much about the Singularity and Chaldea’s information. Who exactly are you?”
Even Sherlock Holmes, at this moment, couldn’t help but lose his composure.
With his intelligence, Holmes immediately connected the dots after Alaric asked those questions, especially given the numerous mysteries surrounding him from the start.
So he is someone from another era!
A possibly from the Age of Gods!
Holmes had initially suspected that Alaric came from the year 2017, or even later, but the overwhelming draconic presence within him had forced Holmes to reconsider.
The dragon blood inside Alaric was undoubtedly from a dragon species of the Age of Gods. In the modern era, where Mystery had significantly faded, it was nearly impossible for a dragon of this caliber to exist, let alone one that had infused so much dragon blood into someone, allowing Alaric to undergo such a transformation.
When the dragon blood within Alaric had awakened, Holmes could discern what had happened. Someone had used powerful dragon blood to modify Alaric’s body, granting him incredible strength and magical power.
Judging by how well Alaric controlled the dragon blood, it hadn’t been long since the transformation—
Could it be that he was transformed after arriving at the Singularity?
Faced with Holmes’s questioning—
“I don’t know either—”
Alaric scratched his head and shook off Holmes’s grip.
After putting a little distance between them, the draconic aura around Alaric gradually subsided.
Even as Holmes’s suspicions reached their peak, Alaric felt a strange sense of relief. He smiled and said, “Mr. Holmes, just as you suspected, I am not from this Singularity—that much elementary, my friend.”
Perhaps it was because he had confronted his inner fears, but even in the face of destiny, Alaric had firmed his resolve to keep moving forward. Thus, Holmes’s wisdom was necessary.
Confirming Alaric’s admission, Holmes lowered his head, swapped out his pipe tobacco, and lit it, taking a deep drag.
“This isn’t elementary at all, Sir Alaric.”
“To put it simply, I was transferred to the Singularity without my knowledge, and I’ve somehow ended up like this.”
Alaric spread his hands.
Upon hearing this, Holmes raised a brow and studied Alaric.
“Sir Alaric, how long exactly have you been here?”
“About four days!”
Alaric thought for a moment and then said, “Mr. Holmes, that’s all I can tell you. As for any further questions, I’m afraid I can’t help.”
Alaric considered the mysteries surrounding him: his transfer into the Singularity and the source of his information. The former, he didn’t know himself, and the latter, he couldn’t reveal.
The existence of the Fate Grand Order was shrouded in mystery, leaving Alaric at a loss as to how to proceed. Although Holmes’s intellect might be able to unravel the situation, Alaric instinctively wanted to keep the truth about the Fate Grand Order hidden.
Around them, the sharp alarms gradually quieted down.
“Hm? Power outage?”
Alaric noticed that the red light on the Trismegistus Hermes system had dimmed, but it wasn’t replaced by the familiar blue glow. Instead, it had fallen silent.
As Hermes went quiet, all the photonic crystals around them also dimmed.
It was as if the energy had been entirely drained, and the system had powered down.
“Hermes’s energy has run out. Mr. Holmes, do you have any insight into this?”
Glancing at Hermes, Alaric knew it wouldn’t be operational anytime soon.
“It seems that the process of querying your information, Sir Alaric, used up the last of its energy. Of course, I also tried to sneak a quick search on how many unsolved mysteries remain in the world, and it seems I’ve paid the price for that—”
Holmes looked guilty, and even his pipe seemed to lose its flavor.
“That’s mostly my fault, I suppose—”
Alaric silently recalled his questions, each one a heavy hitter. Combined with the activation of Hermes’s alarm system, the last of its energy had been completely drained.
Seeing that Alaric wasn’t willing to say more, Holmes didn’t press further. Instead, he turned the conversation to the state of the Singularity.
“Since you’ve been here for four days, Sir Alaric, do you have any information on the current situation in this Singularity?”
Holmes had only recently arrived at the Singularity and hadn’t had time to gather intel before encountering Alaric, putting him at a disadvantage in this conversation.
Alaric nodded and said straightforwardly, “The situation is that the pure white Lion King destroyed Jerusalem, summoned the Knights of the Round Table from its ruins, and established the Holy City—Camelot!”
“The Knights of the Round Table? Camelot?”
Hearing these familiar terms, even someone as composed as Holmes raised an eyebrow, looking at Alaric in surprise.
“Could the Lion King possibly be that King of Knights?”
There were very few rulers in history associated with both the Knights of the Round Table and Camelot, the most famous being the King of Knights. But how could that King of Knights still be alive?
Holmes’s eyes gleamed as his mind raced, swiftly eliminating possibilities. After all, there was a well-known tale about King Arthur—
The legend of the Red Dragon of Britain.
“Sir Alaric, do you serve the Lion King?”
Holmes didn’t hesitate and asked directly.
“That’s right, I serve the Lion King. If Mr. Holmes wants to know more about the current state of my king, all I can tell you is that my king intends to create the world of the Tower. That’s why this Singularity is so special.”
“As for deeper information, I hope Mr. Holmes will uncover it for himself. After all, my words alone are not enough, are they?”
Alaric continued, “Just as you suspected, the true identity of my king is the King of Knights, Arthur Pendragon—or rather, she was once the King of Knights, Arthur Pendragon.”
Alaric looked at Holmes with complete openness, without a trace of deception in his voice.
“As I thought, the dragon blood within you must come from the Lion King, right?”
The moment Alaric admitted the Lion King’s true identity, the source of his dragon blood became clear.
Holmes also confirmed that Alaric wasn’t from the Age of Gods, but indeed came from 2017, or perhaps an even later time, and had close ties to Chaldea! Given that Alaric knew about Lev Lainur’s destruction of Chaldea, he couldn’t have been transferred here before that event. He might have even been there when it happened!
