True: Caught in a Summoning Spell – Isn't a Storage Specialist the Strongest?! - chapter 6
Chapter 6: The Kiln Dungeon
Tomorrow marks the start of the dungeon expedition. I was told to help transport spare weapons and consumables, so I needed to head to the storage area shortly. While waiting for someone to escort me, a knight’s attendant arrived and guided me to the supply warehouse.
Once there, I was asked to store a large box and two adjacent barrels. It seemed like a surprisingly small amount.
“Is this really all you need?”
“If you can store more, please take as many supplies as possible from here to over there,” the attendant replied.
I followed the instructions and stored everything with ease. The attendant looked stunned. It confirmed what I’d suspected: my storage capacity was immense. Even after storing everything, my storage space still felt completely unfilled.
The next morning brought clear skies and the beginning of the expedition.
“Let’s set off for Kiln!”
Tristan, the knight commander who had worn an impressive set of armor the day we were summoned, led the operation. From horseback, he gave the command, and the three wagons in our convoy began to move. The Hero trio and I rode in the second wagon. They ignored me entirely, chatting amongst themselves. With nothing better to do, I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep. Their endless chatter, however, was hard to ignore.
We stopped midday in a roadside clearing for lunch and a restroom break.
Lunch consisted of hard bread, cold soup, and dried meat. The jerky resembled beef jerky from home but was tougher and excessively salty.
Unsurprisingly, the Hero trio complained loudly about the simple, tasteless food. Apparently, meals during travel were always this basic. After a brief rest, we resumed our journey.
In the afternoon, tired of pretending to sleep amidst the trio’s chatter, I occupied myself by storing large stones I spotted through the wagon’s window.
After about three hours of travel, we reached the village where we would spend the night. By then, I had stored a decent number of stones—about a third of which were prepared as high-speed projectiles.
The village was a cluster of single-story wooden houses surrounded by a wooden wall. The largest house, located in the center, belonged to the village chief.
Our convoy parked in the square before the chief’s house. Tristan greeted him and discussed room assignments. I was placed in a four-person room with three knights. Tristan likely arranged this to keep me away from the Hero trio.
As we passed the village chief at the entrance, I offered a polite bow and said, “Thank you for having us.”
After a decent dinner, I had little to do once darkness fell, so I went to bed early. The knights, meanwhile, took turns standing watch. I felt a bit guilty about that.
The next morning, after a light breakfast, we thanked the village chief and set off again.
By midday, we reached Kiln, a labyrinthine city, and headed straight to an inn. Though it was the city’s best inn, the medieval-level amenities left much to be desired. Still, I was given my own room. Tomorrow would bring my first dungeon experience.
The Kiln Dungeon wasn’t just in the city—it was the city’s core. The town had grown around it over time.
The dungeon’s entrance was a mysterious black vortex. Entering it led directly to the dungeon, but oddly enough, digging near the vortex never revealed another path into the labyrinth.
Before entering, a knight suggested I take a weapon. I declined. I wasn’t confident in using one effectively, and if needed, I could rely on my high-speed stone projectiles.
We descended to the third floor of the dungeon, with me trailing behind the Heroes as they dispatched monsters.
Occasionally, knights would shove nearly defeated monsters my way, encouraging me to deal the final blow for experience points. I refused, reasoning that leveling up wouldn’t benefit a porter like me and suggested they pass the kills to the Heroes instead.
As we continued exploring, the Hero stumbled upon a hidden room. In its center stood a long, ornate treasure chest.
After confirming there were no traps, the Heroes insisted I open it, citing my high Luck stat.
If there’s no trap, then no problem—it was finally my time to shine. My extraordinary luck was about to come through.
I approached the chest, finding no lock on it. Placing my hands on its lid, I slowly opened it.
The moment I did, my consciousness flickered, and everything went black.
