Episode 19 The Tenement

Now, Asuka, what time is it?

‘It’s ten o’clock in the morning.

That’s my watch these days, Asuka.

Food for the day. Fast food from a food stall: skewers, hot dogs, and more. All stored.

Food for tomorrow and beyond. Salt, pepper, some fresh bread, meat, vegetables, fruit. Ham, sausages, and tea. All stored.

Household wizardry. Stove, lights, all stored.

That’s about it.

I’m really good today. Hooray for the storage man.

I finished lunch at a food stall, and spent a lot of time running around the stores. What time is it? I check my watch.

I hurried back to the base, removed the covering board so that I could draw water from the well, and attached a tub and a rope. I asked Asuka to fetch water for me so that I could do the dusting. I left the heavy lifting to Asuka. I was in charge of the brains.

I opened the door to the house and wiped down the rooms where we slept with a rag tightly wrung out with water. My room is in the middle and Asuka’s is in the front. The far end of the room is empty for the time being. Asuka quickly finishes wiping her room and helps me wipe my room, which is not even half finished. Thank you. Since I had time, I was able to clean the kitchen and dining room as well, albeit lightly.

We set up the beds, bedding, wardrobes, and other things we had taken out of storage in each room. Naturally, Asuka helped me with the fine-tuning. I’m getting higher in status, so I can usually carry heavy things, but you see, I need someone to tell me what to do in the right way.

I took out the cupboard and put in the dishes. Don’t forget the pots, pans, and knives. That’s about it.
