Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband - Chapter 9
Gu Yao cast a glance at Lu Minzhu, and a look of disgust flashed in his eyes, unmasked. It wasn’t just directed at Lu Minzhu but also at the Lu family. This engagement wasn’t something Gu Yao had eagerly sought after. The Lu family’s actions were like a woman who had played the prostitute but still wanted to claim chastity.
The original body had never been treated well by the Lu Minzhu siblings. Whenever they saw him, they always had a look of disdain. If the Lu family truly despised him, they should have broken off the engagement earlier. Did they think the original body didn’t want to end it? It was a matter for the Gu family—when had it become the original body’s place to decide? Moreover, the original body had suffered much humiliation from Lu Minzhu’s admirers because of this engagement. Thinking of all the grievances the original body had suffered, Gu Yao’s eyes filled with anger.
Lu Minzhu saw this and nearly gasped in shock.
“My money has nothing to do with you! Not only did it come from legitimate sources, but what happened to the wealth my mother left behind? Those assets could easily support ten of me, let alone the fact that my mother died because of that scoundrel, Gu Zhiming! Who in the entire Yuanyang Town doesn’t know that?” Gu Yao spat angrily.
Chi Changye’s fingers twitched, wanting to step forward and stop Gu Yao. Acting recklessly and tearing apart their family face to anger the Gu family wasn’t much more than a fleeting satisfaction. It wouldn’t bring many benefits. But then he thought about how young this boy was and how much he had already endured. If he didn’t vent, his temperament might change. So, he decided it was better to think of a way to improve their protection.
Gu Xing and Gu Chen were stunned, unable to recognize the Gu Yao in front of them. In the past, Gu Yao let them bully him. When had he ever dared to resist? The more he remained silent and meek, the more people wanted to trample on him. But now, he even dared to call their father by his name? Such audacity!
Gu Xing was furious: “Gu Yao, you bastard! You shamelessly did disgraceful things with your adulterous lover at Grandfather’s birthday banquet, embarrassing the entire Gu family. And your mother was no better… Ah!”
“Slap!”
The crowd that had gathered, drawn by the commotion, as well as Gu Chen and Lu Minzhu, all stared at Gu Yao in disbelief. Gu Xing, clutching her cheek, screamed in shock. No one had expected that Gu Yao would suddenly spring out and slap Gu Xing across the face.
Gu Chen quickly reacted, rushing forward to angrily reprimand him: “Gu Yao, you dare strike someone? You really have rebelled! Someone, seize him and bring him back for questioning!”
“I’m slapping someone who disrespects their elders!” Gu Yao shot back, his voice sharp with fury. “Without my mother, Gu Zhiming would have been dead long ago. And you two siblings—when did it become your turn to accuse my mother? Do you think this is the Gu family, where you can twist the truth at will?”
Gu Yao stood firmly behind Chi Changye, still fiercely retorting.
“Gu Yao, young master, my apologies, but please come with us,” one of the guards accompanying Gu Xing and Gu Chen said, clearly following their orders. Gu Yao wasn’t even considered a young master in the Gu family anymore.
“I’ll see who dares to lay a hand on us in our Tian family’s territory!” a familiar voice came from the back of the crowd. The onlookers parted to make way as Tian Feirong, fanning himself, walked toward them, followed by guards from the Tian family. After casting a glance at Gu Xing, Gu Chen, and Lu Minzhu, he sneered, “Oh, so you’re from the Gu and Lu families. No wonder you don’t show any respect for the Tian family. You dare to cause trouble in our territory? Are you eager to drive us out of Yuanyang Town?”
Gu Xing and Lu Minzhu also looked down on Tian Feirong, but given the tangled relations between the three families, Gu Chen remained calm for the moment. He cupped his hands toward Tian Feirong and explained, “Gu Xing and I are just here to bring back our brother, Gu Yao. Our family wealth has been stolen, and we suspect—”
At this, he looked meaningfully at Gu Yao, implying that Gu Yao had stolen the family’s wealth, which was why he was spending money lavishly at the market. Some passersby also cast suspicious glances at Gu Yao.
Gu Yao sneered. He had thought Gu Chen was clever, but now it seemed he was just as stupid. But it made sense—if he weren’t stupid, how could he have been manipulated by Gu Yan? And how could Gu Zhiming not have told these twins what had happened last night?
Tian Feirong paused for a moment, then burst into laughter, doubling over with laughter until tears welled up in his eyes. The crowd around them was confused, while Gu Chen’s unease grew. Gu Xing was furious but was held back by Gu Chen. Seeing Gu Yao stand there, unafraid and defiant, Gu Chen frowned. What was going on here that he didn’t know?
Gu Yao lightly kicked Tian Feirong’s leg and said, “Stop laughing and get rid of these people quickly.”
“Alright, alright, I’m coming,” Tian Feirong wiped his tears and, still grinning, said to Gu Chen, “Young Master Gu Chen, thanks to you, Gu Yao is no longer part of the Gu family. He was married off, and guess what? You two were the ones who chose his husband for him. To make that happen, Gu Yao paid quite the price. Young Master Gu Chen, you’d better hurry and ask the elders of the Gu family who they’ve decided to send to the Changxian Sect for training—whether it’s you or Gu Yan? Haha…”
Gu Chen’s face changed drastically. The Changxian Sect? How did he not know about this? He looked at Gu Yao, who, unlike him and Gu Xing, didn’t show any surprise. Did Gu Yao know? Was this related to him?
Damn it, he realized he didn’t know anything. Forget dealing with Gu Yao, he was in no position to think about that now. He stomped his foot in frustration. “Sister, let’s go back quickly!”
“Then he…” Gu Xing was determined to make things difficult for Gu Yao. She wanted to spread his embarrassing actions all over Yuanyang Town, so that everyone would despise him. But she had been warned by her father this morning not to mention what happened yesterday. However, given this perfect opportunity, even if her father found out, he probably wouldn’t blame her.
“Sis, let’s go now. We’ll talk about it later.” Gu Chen, anxious, grabbed Gu Xing’s arm and pulled her along.
Lu Minzhu seemed a little dazed, her mind still echoing with the words “Gu Yan” and “Changxian Sect.” Gu Xing and Gu Chen had already walked far, but she took a few steps forward, then suddenly stopped and turned back to look at Gu Yao. “What does this have to do with you? Were you the one behind all of this?”
Gu Yao scoffed without any politeness, “You think Gu Yan went through all that trouble to get me the Changxian Sect token? If anyone should be asking questions, it’s your dear cousin and aunt. They know all about it. As for me, I have nothing to do with you anymore. From now on, you walk your own path, and I’ll walk mine.”
With that, he turned around and walked away. Chi Changye shot Lu Minzhu a deep glance. This woman had once held the title of Gu Yao’s fiancée, which made him uncomfortable. Fortunately, he could tell that Gu Yao had no feelings for her. With that thought, Chi Changye also turned and followed Gu Yao.
“Ah, the fun ended so quickly. What a letdown. Gu Yao, Gu Yao, slow down, wait for me!” Tian Feirong waved his hand at his guards and, still fanning himself, chased after Gu Yao, leaving the crowd behind, who continued to gossip and discuss.
The amount of information that had been revealed by these few people was overwhelming. The Gu family really had obtained the Changxian Sect token, and if one of their members entered the Changxian Sect, Yuanyang Town was likely to undergo major changes.
