Alessandro
Chapter 33
In the North of the Alessandro Empire, the conflict between the country and their neighbor, Kashrut, had been going on for a while. A line of mercenaries held security at the borders.
On the plain that became a battlefield, there was an Ordo figure. He laughed, “did you see the faces of the Kashrut soldiers? They were freaking out!”
“Well, yeah, against us they don’t stand a chance.”
“Bazel, you have accomplished the most battle achievements, right? Isn’t it time for you to be promoted to captain of the 1000-soldier squad?”
It was dusk, and brown-skinned soldiers were sitting around a fire and having drinks. With them was the mighty Ordo warrior, Bazel Beluge. He had short gray hair and slit eyes that stared at the fire. There were countless scars on his face and body, showing for the harsh battles he fought.
Bazel sipped his drink and said, “the battle isn’t over yet. Don’t let your guard down.”
“We know, Bazel. You’re a tough guy, as always.”
As they kept on talking, Bazel felt someone’s presence and raised his hand so they would be quiet.
“What?”, asked one of the men. “Someone’s coming.”
In a matter of seconds, everyone picked up their swords and stood up. Although it was their camp, they were still on a battlefield – a surprises attack wouldn’t be so much of a surprise.
That’s what Bazel thought, but he felt something was off when he saw the person wave at him.
“Bazel!”
“Fyne?!” Bazel couldn’t believe his little sister was here. “Why are you here?
Actually, how did you even get here?” He was confused, but another familiar face was behind Fyne. “Reid!”
His childhood friend, Reid, was next walking next to a strange woman wearing a
hood.
“Who are they?,” his fellow soldiers asked, holding out their swords. “Oh, it’s okay guys,” Bazel replied, “they’re friends.”
Bazel led Fyne, Reid and the woman away from the group. “Why did you come
here? Do you know how dangerous this place is?”
“I’m sorry we came here so suddenly,” started Reid, “we have something we need to talk to you about. Fyne, can you do it?”
“Sure, leave it to me!” Fyne said with a smile. “Your face is scary, Bazel.”
Bazel sighed, he hadn’t realized how tense he was. “So, how did you get here?” “Reid sent me here, we arrived here in no time!”
Bazel frowned, he didn’t really understand what it meant but decided to focus on why they were here first.
“So what did you want to talk about? Did something happen to mom and dad?!” “No, both are fine!,” Fyne reassured him.
“Then what is it?”
Fyne gulped at Bazel’s strong tone. “The village we used to live in was burned down and now we have no place to live.”
“What?!”
“But Reid has found us a place for now!”
Bazel crossed his arms. “I see… Then I must thank you, Reid, for taking care of my family.”
“It’s ok,” Reid replied, “besides, why aren’t you asking why the village has been destroyed?”
“Well, I can guess,” Bazel said, “Ordos are treated the same way everywhere.” “Right?,” replied Fyne, “I think you should come with us!”
“Why?”
“We’re trying to create a place where everyone can work together, but it’s still not safe enough. We need someone to protect us.”
Bazel thought they were trying to build a new place to live in the mountains, which could be destroyed again or attacked by wild animals.
Many of the villagers were old, so it wasn’t surprising that they’d want young men to protect them.
Bazel’s predictions were almost correct – of course, he never would’ve imagined they were all living in a castle.
“Fyne,” Bazel replied, “I understand how you feel, but the battle here isn’t over. I can’t go home.”
“I see…” Fyne’s shoulders dropped.
“I guess I can come home once the situation here settles down? Could you please wait until then?”
“Really?,” said Fyne, with sparks in her eyes. Bazel was relieved to see his sister happy. “Promise me!”
“Yes, I promise.” Bazel faced Reid. “Reid, I can’t go right away. I’m sorry, but I have to ask you to take care of all of them for a while.”
“Of course, Bazel. Your situation cannot be helped.” Bazel sighed.
“Maybe you could come and see your parents right now? Just for a bit?” “Huh?,” Bazel replied, confused, “what are you saying? Do you know how far
Morgalea is from here? There’s no way-”
As Bazel was talking, a circle of light formed around his feet, and in an instant, he was moved to a huge building. He looked around and saw the people from his village, Garedo, living their lives. He was at loss for words.
“Oh, Bazel?!”
“Father…” Axel and Marie rushed to their son and hugged him. “How am I here?!” “It’s thanks to Reid,” Axel replied, “don’t worry, he’ll take you back in no time.” “Reid?” Bazel turned around to see Reid and Fyne appearing as well. Bazel
rushed to him to ask what was actually going on. “Alright,” said Reid, “I’ll tell you everything.
