The Ultimate Glitch ~One Man Conquers a Dungeon That Humanity Couldn’t Conquer for Hundreds of Years, in Only Two Hours~ - Chapter 3
Prologue
Chapter 3
The only source of light was the faint glow from the book. He directed it to the door he went through just moments ago – but the door had vanished.
“What? Where did it go?”
He pressed his palm against the wall to make sure, but there was no doubt – the door wasn’t there anymore. He had no choice but to find another one. Hopefully, he found a second door in the back of the room. He pushed it with all his strength until it made a heavy noise and slowly opened. It was a way inside the dungeon.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Reid said, “for someone like me to be in a dungeon is suicide! I need to find a way to get out of here safely…”
He started to get worried. His eyes wandered to the floating book, still in his hand.
The strange voice said this book had powers, he thought, I wonder what kind. I should ask the book and see…
The book suddenly glowed harder and something came out. Reid was startled. It took a moment for him to understand what it was until he realized it was a map.
“A map made out of light,” he said, “could this be Morgalea?” It mapped out his home country, the Principality of Morgalea. He had seen a rough map of his country before, but this one was much more precise.
Reid decided to try and touch the map of light. When he did, the area he touched zoomed in and he could see it in more detail. He touched other areas, having fun with his new map.
“Look what we have here, it’s my village! And this is my house!” He was thrilled to have found his house, no matter how deep in a dungeon he was. He touched his house to see it more clearly.
When his dog barked, making his mind wander off the map. He looked down at Jack to find a sort of magic circle drawn on the floor, glowing. The light wrapped around Reid and his companion like a blanket.
In an instant, the man and his four-legged companion had disappeared, leaving the room in total darkness.
When Reid opened his eyes, he was standing in front of his house. He looked around and saw his dog, his tongue hanging from his jaw, looking back at him. He picked Jack up and held him close. “It’s okay,” he said, “we’re okay.” Reid was glad they were both safe.
Did Reid and Jack just teleport from the dungeon? He was baffled.
Before doing anything else, Reid went inside and prepared Jack’s meal. When he was done, he slouched onto a chair, trying to collect his thoughts.
On a whim, he made the mysterious book appear again. He realized he could summon it whenever he wanted.
Reid flipped through the pages – the book gathered information about various places and countries. He wondered if he could travel anywhere in the world with the glowing map.
In that dark room, the voice had called the book “The Book Of Space”. Did it mean that the book possessed powers that could be used to travel through air and space? If that was the case, it was a tremendous thing.
Even non-adventurer Reid knew that in the lowest levels of dungeons laid undiscovered treasures – but no one actually knew what those treasures were. This must be because no one had ever conquered a dungeon before.
Reid’s eyes focused on the book again. He zoomed in on the field he works on. He touched the field again to see it closer, but as he did, the magic circle reappeared around him. In a matter of seconds, Reid vanished from his home, leaving a confused Jack behind.
****
In the middle of the night, a light shined on the field.
Reid was standing on his field. With this book, Reid realized he could teleport anywhere he wanted.
He made the book appear in his hand again. “This is amazing. I’ve never heard of such magic.”
He knew there were people who used magic, sorcerers, in the world. But it was only a handful of people and Reid had never met one. Besides, no matter how powerful a sorcerer was, no one had ever been able to teleport.
Reid understood it was a treasure from ancient times.
He also understood he had really conquered a dungeon.
He touched the map again and dissolved into thin air. “I’m home, Jack!” While caressing Jack, Reid started to have mixed feelings about the whole thing. He put that aside and ate dinner as usual, cleaned his clothes and got into his pajamas. He turned off the lights and got in his futon.
He stared at the ceiling. How did this happen?, he thought.
Reid was perplexed. He had attained wonderful powers, but it hadn’t been through hard work. Reid hadn’t done anything special.
Moreover, If he decided to use the book, it might cause him trouble and end the life he’s built for himself.
On top of that, Reid was an Ordo – if anyone found out about this, he’d be in great danger. He shouldn’t tell anyone about this.
His mind wandered on the subject until he slowly drifted to sleep. But something caught his attention.
I’m forgetting something, he thought, something important.
It’s something that would completely change Reid’s life. A piece of information that ended his normal life.
He opened his eyes. There were many dungeons in the world. The strength of monsters depended on the dungeons they were in, and so did the environment and the difficulty. But it’s said that the inside, the structures, are the same. If that’s true-
Reid sat straight up on his bed.
“Does this mean there’s a loophole, a secret passage, in every dungeon?”
