The Ultimate Glitch ~One Man Conquers a Dungeon That Humanity Couldn’t Conquer for Hundreds of Years, in Only Two Hours~ - Chapter 2
Prologue
Chapter 2
“This hole…”
Reid didn’t refrain from screaming Jack’s name in the darkness, as he was convinced the hole was nothing but a bear’s den.
“Jack, Jack!!”
Silence.
He could only hear the echo of his own voice.
Persuaded it was a bear’s den, Reid feared that Jack might have been killed by a mother bear trying to protect its baby.
“Please, come back, Jack!”
No matter how many times he called his companion’s name, he was only met with silence.
“It’s no use, I have to get inside.”
Reid decided to enter the hole. If it is indeed a bear’s den, he will be putting himself in grave danger. But there was no way he was leaving his dear partner in there.
In the darkness, he patted the wall on his way forward to keep a sense of direction.
It was so narrow that an adult could barely fit in it, but it didn’t stop Reid who kept moving forward while calling Jack’s name.
That’s quite a deep hole, he thought, when will it end?
As he advanced, he felt anxiety rise in his stomach. He knew it’d be difficult to get away if he came face to face with a bear, but he still kept going.
That’s when something strange happened.
In this dark hole, he noticed a ray of light. At first, he thought he was imagining it, but the more he advanced into the den, the more it was visible. He couldn’t deny it anymore – there was light at the end of the cavern.
After walking for ten minutes, he still couldn’t see a thing. He knew this could go on forever, but he didn’t want to go back.
There was only a straight way further, which meant that he couldn’t get lost. He’d turn back only if the road branched and he had to choose a path.
For his dog, Reid decided to move forward as far as he could. “What is this?”
After walking for a while, Reid stopped as he saw something peculiar – there was an artificial wall made out of concrete further down the cavern. It created a corridor inside the dark cave. The walls released a faint glow, the only source of light in the cavern.
This wasn’t a bear’s den.
I didn’t know such a place existed just next to my house, he thought. Reid was baffled at the discovery, but for Jack’s sake, he kept going.
How long have you ran for, Jack, he thought, you went quite far.
When colors were starting to drain from Reid’s face as fatigue took over him, he saw a door at the end of the concrete path. Something was written on the door, but Reid couldn’t read it. He extended his arm and reached for the door, which opened as soon as he touched it.
Inside the small room, there was a glowing blue light. He looked around and- “Woof!”
“Jack,” Reid said, “there you are!”
His companion rushed to him and he stroked his fur in relief. Although, he felt anxious about staying in this strange room for too long. He decided to take his dog and leave when suddenly, he heard something resonate in his mind.
“The reach of the lowest floor has been confirmed.” “What?”
In the middle of the room, a circular platform started to shine. The “voice” had only been heard in his head.
“Is there anybody here?”
“Evil Path number 07. The release of “The Book Of Space” is confirmed. The transfer of authority has been approved.”
After hearing the strange voice again, a pillar of light rose from the platform. The light was so bright, Reid had to avert his gaze. When he dared to look again, he noticed a book in the middle of the platform. It was as big as a dictionary and seemed very old.
“What the hell is going on?,” he asked to the empty room, “who are you?”
“This is the lowest level of the dungeon,” the voice answered, “my role is to bestow the wisdom of the Ordorian Empire on those who have conquered the dungeon.”
Reid had heard of this empire before – it was the empire of his people.
The Ordorian Empire was recognized for its incredible power all over the world, a power for which they were also discriminated against.
It had disappeared over a thousand years ago.
But something else had caught Raid’s attention. “Wait, you said this was the lowest level of a dungeon?”
“Yes. This is the dungeon in the mountain, B06. You have reached its lowest level.”
Raid started to feel dizzy. He had just entered a dungeon without knowing it, and without being allowed to do it. It was hard to believe, so he started thinking – he walked down what he thought was a bear’s den for about 5 kilometers, so it made sense that he’d come right under the dungeon…
“Wait, no one has ever reached the lower levels of a dungeon, right?”
“Yes. There aren’t any records of such a thing, which means that you became the first Conquerer.”
He gaped.
“But,” he mumbled, “I didn’t enter any dungeon…”
“It doesn’t matter. Those who reached this level become Dungeon Conquerors and receive the legacies of the Ordorian Empire.”
Anxiety raised in his stomach. Jack looked up to his master and growled.
“It’s okay, Jack,” he reassured his dog, “it’s okay.” He cleared his voice before asking another question to the invisible voice. “Then, what is this legacy you’re talking about?”
“Please touch the book.”
Reid looked at the old book. It looked dangerous, but he figured that just touching it wouldn’t hurt. He nervously extended his arm.
As the voice had said, the light burst for a moment and rose through Reid’s arm. In
shock, he quickly pulled away. The light disappeared immediately. “Please state your name.”
“What?” “Your name.”
“Oh, uhm, it’s Reid Athril.”
“Reid Athril… The registration is complete.” The thick crimson book disappeared.
“Where did it go?!”
“The Ordorian Empire’s legacy, The Book Of Space, has been officially transferred.
You may now use the powers of this book freely.”
“Use the powers of the book? How do I do that?” “Make your palm face up and imagine the book.”
It’s full of doubt that Reid did as he was told. As he did, the book that had vanished earlier appeared floating in his hand. He gulped. It’s carefully that he brushed the book’s crimson cover. He couldn’t deny it, the book was really in his hand. It seemed quite valuable, although he had no idea what it could do.
“So I made the book appear,” he asked, “now, what do I do?”
“I have transferred the book. My work here is done. I hope you’ll use the legacy of Ordoria wisely.”
“Excuse me?”
After the voice’s last words, the blue light slowly disappeared. “What? C’mon, wait!”
The room turned pitch black, leaving the confused man and his 4-legged
companion in total darkness. Reid was at loss for words. The only thing that echoed through the cave were Jack’s whimpers.
