Episode 047: Headhunter, Promoting Again
On the next day off,
Ack received a contact from Clauf, and received a shaved ice machine and serving bowls.
The bowls, made of a material resembling transparent glass, had beautiful lattice-like patterns accurately drawn on them, showcasing excellent craftsmanship.
“Beautiful.”
“With shaved ice in these, they’ll look fantastic.”
“Kyuu!!”
Tina and the others were impressed by the quality.
Moreover, this material for the bowls was superior to glass in terms of durability.
It wouldn’t break when dropped, and it was resistant to scratches, so while the initial cost might be high, in the long run, it would be more cost-effective.
Plus, it was great that there was no need to worry about them breaking and causing injuries if Tina or customers accidentally dropped them.
Next was the shaved ice machine.
“Cute.”
“Just as I imagined.”
The completed shaved ice machine, based on the deformed monsters as designed by Ack, was designed to be visually enjoyable.
Tina narrowed her eyes as if admiring it, and Snow seemed to feel a sense of familiarity with the shaved ice machine resembling themselves.
At any rate, they needed to confirm if it worked properly.
“Rim, the ice.”
“Hmph, I suppose there’s no helping it.”
With his tail wagging happily, Rim produced perfectly square ice cubes. He set the ice into the shaved ice machine and turned the handle attached to it.
*Scrape, scrape, scrape*
A pleasing sound echoed through the shop as the ice rotated.
As the ice rotated, the blades underneath shaved it, and it piled up smoothly into the bowl placed below.
“Interesting.”
“Kyuu!”
“Hmph, it’s just shaving ice, isn’t it?”
Tina and the small animal monsters popped their heads out from beside the table where the shaved ice machine was placed, gazing with curiosity.
Rim, on the other hand, turned away seemingly disinterested. But his wagging tail clearly spoke of his keen interest.
And then, after several tens of seconds, a towering mound of shaved ice was completed in the bowl.
It seemed to work without any problems.
“I want to try.”
Though Tina’s expression was blank, there was anticipation in her eyes.
“Alright.”
Setting a new bowl, Ack lifted Tina to the position where she could reach the handle. As Tina earnestly started turning the handle, the base of the shaved ice was created without any issues.
After a while, a mountain similar to Ack’s was completed.
“Fun.”
“Kyuu!!”
“Kwaa!!”
“Kurur!!”
Seeing Tina enjoying herself, Snow and the others wanted to try too, each hopping onto a table one by one and enthusiastically shaving the ice.
“Rim too.”
“At Tina’s request, I suppose there’s no helping it. Very well, then.”
Seeing Tina’s restless excitement, Rim happily wagged his tail and joined in.
Using his front legs skillfully to turn the handle, he shaved out his portion.
“Hmm, not bad at all.”
Despite his words, his face looked satisfied.
Because Rim was large, he made about five bowlfuls of the base.
Each person then decorated their shaved ice with syrup and fruits to their liking, completing their shaved ice.
Everyone ate together.
“Hmph. It’s just ice, but it fills the stomach. Especially this blue one, you can eat more if you want.”
While Tina and the others had eaten it before, it was Rim’s first time. Despite his words, his expression and the movement of his tail showed that he was quite pleased.
Then, Ack continued to make shaved ice until Rim was satisfied.
Seeing everyone having fun shaving the ice, Ack thought that it might be a good idea to let the customers shave the ice themselves.
He thought so.
To test this hypothesis, he opened a temporary shaved ice shop again and practiced for tomorrow.
“Cute!!”
“What’s this, it’s so much fun!!”
“So much fun!!”
“It’s fascinating, isn’t it!!”
The result was a great success.
With novelty and the fun of making it themselves, along with the cuteness of the shaved ice machine, they attracted a lot of popularity, especially among female customers and children.
Distributing flyers emphasizing the comfortable temperature inside the shop, they promoted it and prepared further for tomorrow.
First, they unveiled the perennial ice in front of everyone.
Since it was large, they took it outside.
“This is the perennial ice.”
“Glistening and cool.”
The mass of perennial ice, illuminated by the sun, reflected light beautifully.
Tina and the others were captivated, gazing at it for a while in a daze.
Furthermore, while it wasn’t noticeable in the Great Blizzard Mountains, the effect became apparent when taken out in warmer surroundings. Simply having the perennial ice around lowered the temperature in the vicinity by several degrees.
“Do you mind if I touch it?” Tina looked up at Ack with great curiosity.
Since perennial ice does not melt after a slight touch, there is no chance of frostbite from hands sticking to it.. However, it was considerably cold, enough to lower the surrounding temperature. Prolonged contact could still pose a risk, so caution was necessary.
“Sure, but just a little.”
“Got it.”
Tina heeded Ack’s words and lightly touched the perennial ice.
“It’s so cold and refreshing.”
The monsters, following Tina’s lead, swarmed around the perennial ice.
“Now, let’s get started. Hyaaaaah!!”
After separating everyone from the perennial ice for a while, they began their original purpose with determination, drawing their large swords.
With a tremendous swing, they finished, revealing the colossal ice sculptures of the monsters, led by Rim.
“Amazing.”
“Kyukyuu!!”
“Kukukuu!!”
“Kurururu!!”
Tina and the monsters were ecstatic.
“It truly captures my magnificence. Not bad at all,” Rim nodded in satisfaction as he gazed at his own sculpture.
Yes.
The further preparation involved creating ice sculptures to attract customers.
With these, they were certain that many customers would come.
Ack was convinced of that.
“They’re not coming.”
“Yeah, you’re right…”
However, the customers didn’t increase.
That was because the ice sculptures were mistaken for monsters, causing the residents to become frightened instead.
It wasn’t until Ack and the others were scolded by the knights that they realized the cause of the problem.
