The Man Called Demon Lord in Another World Has Returned! - chapter 6
Chapter 6: Return Home 1
“I’m back,” I called out as I entered the house.
The front door was unlocked; Mom and Midori had returned from the middle school entrance ceremony and had already changed clothes.
“Seiichiro, lunch will be ready soon, so please wait a bit. We’re having meat sauce today.”
…
As we ate spaghetti with meat sauce, we talked about the entrance ceremonies and our schools. Of course, I didn’t mention anything about the trouble with those two guys. It was what you’d call safe conversation.
After the meal, I went upstairs to my room. My room is about six tatami mats in size, with a wooden floor. It’s almost filled with a desk, a bed, and a bookshelf. In the closet next to the room’s entrance are my casual clothes. Midori’s room is next door.
While it’s not so cramped that there’s no place to step, it is quite small.
The people in that other world called their world “Earth.” That makes sense. For them, their earth is basically their entire world. And they called the world where humans exist for their use “Terra.”
Now, let’s set up a transfer array in this room to travel back and forth between this world and the other world, Earth. By installing a transfer array here that pairs with the one at my base on Earth, the two worlds should synchronize, allowing for low mana cost travel between them. Probably.
I take out a mithril plate about 5mm thick and 50cm square from my item box and place it on the wooden floor in the corner of the room. A transfer array is engraved on the plate, and sound-proofing and camouflage magic circles are engraved in the empty spaces near the corners.
When I channel mana into the three magic circles, the mithril plate glows faintly blue for a moment before becoming invisible to the naked eye. There’s still a noticeable difference when stepping on the corner of the plate, and it feels cool to bare feet, so it’s a bit strange. Mom or Midori might notice if they step on it, but it should be fine. I’ll ask Mom to get me a low table or something later to cover it.
Next, I open the closet and take out a clothing box stored inside.
I transfer the clothes from the box directly into my item box and replace them with an item bag. This item bag isn’t particularly high-grade, but its internal capacity is expanded to about 5000 liters, and it has a weight reduction effect of 1/100. I made it before for practicing spatial magic.
Even if I stuff this bag full of heavy items, there shouldn’t be any worry about the floor collapsing.
I move the clothes I just put in the item box into the item bag, then stuff the thick clothes that were hanging in the closet into the item bag as well. I put the bag in the clothing box, close the lid, and store it back in the closet. The closet looks much tidier now.
Next, I take out four mana collectors from my item box and lean them against the back of the closet, spaced apart. These are also made of silver-colored mithril. They’re cylindrical, about 7cm in diameter and 1 meter long, with several straight vertical grooves on the surface. These grooved parts are the absorption layer that absorbs mana from the air, and the inside of the cylinder is a mana storage layer made of thinly processed magic stones stacked in disc form.
One of these can store about twice my maximum mana capacity.
The top surface of the cylinder displays the amount of mana accumulated and the estimated time until 100% accumulation. The current display shows “0%: 180.5H”. It seems it takes just over a week for an empty mana collector to become full. Judging from these numbers, the mana concentration on Earth seems to be almost the same as in the other world. I still have several fully charged mana collectors in my item box, but it’s significant that I’ve confirmed that mana can be collected with these devices on this Earth as well.
For now, I guess that’s enough work.
Let’s go back to the other side (Earth) to check things out.
