The 'Item Box' That Only I Can Use Is Bugged - Chapter 3.1: The Item Box
When I woke up in the morning, I found out that today, being Sunday, we were going out as a family.
Our destination was a nearby breakwater, where Yuji would be indulging in his hobby of fishing.
However, since Aoi wasn’t particularly fond of fishing, she planned to play with me on the nearby sandy beach while Yuji enjoyed his fishing.
“Look, look, Oki-chan!” Aoi called out to me as we competed to see who could make the best sand sculpture.
When I turned to look, I was shocked.
There stood an impeccable replica of Nagoya Castle.
(Is my mom… amazing or what?)
Although Aoi was now a full-time housewife, she used to be a hairdresser.
While it’s a job that requires dexterous hands, creating such a magnificent castle was purely a talent.
(The more I look at it, the more amazing it is… It’s practically art.)
Every detail was recreated, and the golden shachihoko on the roof looked like it might start moving any moment.
In contrast, my creation was a simple tunnel through a hill, embarrassingly basic compared to Aoi’s masterpiece.
“Oh my, that’s very well done! Just as expected from my son!” Aoi praised me, and although it was a bit embarrassing, it made me happy.
It was late March, so the wind was cold. However, I preferred the colder seasons, so it didn’t bother me.
When I looked towards the breakwater, I saw Yuji waving at us, and I waved back.
Hopefully, he would catch something big.
Aoi and I then decided to relax by the rocks.
“Be careful, okay?”
Though the spot was safe from the waves, it was still a water area and could be slippery, so I heeded her warning.
Instead of playing, I wanted to take this opportunity to test another one of my abilities.
Here, away from other people, it was a good place to try.
I carefully observed between the rocks and in the water, finding shells, small fish, and tiny crabs.
(Hmm, this ability doesn’t work on living things.)
At least not on anything I recognized as a living being.
“Oh, there it is.”
Among the debris washed up from the sea, I found a PET bottle, candy wrappers, fishing lines, and floats—typical marine litter.
It was a clear reminder of how humans pollute the ocean.
