The Hero In The Military academy Suit - CH 02
Chapter 02
1.The Enlisted Reincarnator
My name is Jin Se-jin.
Read it straight or backward, it’s still Jin Se-jin.
My name combines the characters for “slender” and “progress,” embodying my parents’ wish for me to live a long, steady life.
But… it seems like their grand investment in naming me didn’t really pan out.
I fell into a coma.
Even though my eyes were closed, I could somehow see roads, hospital ER rooms, nurses and doctors rushing around, and paramedics.
The sharp hospital smell stung my nose, and bright lights flickered overhead.
Though I’d only closed my eyes for what felt like a moment, it seemed that a huge amount of time had passed outside my mind—like time only stopped for me.
I had ordered chicken, though. My chicken. Grilled, old-fashioned, spicy chicken…
The ECG monitor I was hooked up to blinked meaninglessly, its wires all over my body.
I’d seen this kind of scene a lot in dramas.
How much time had passed, I wasn’t sure, but eventually, people in suits—whether they were insurance agents or police, I couldn’t tell—started showing up.
My parents, who’d been lingering nearby, eventually signed some unidentified paperwork.
After that, my vision gradually faded.
The lines on the monitor that had been jumping around settled into a straight line with a “beep,” and silence fell.
[Beeeeep—]
That sharp mechanical sound that told me my life had come to an end.
* * *
“Gasp!”
took a deep breath and woke up.
In front of me was a dimly lit space I’d never seen before.
“I actually came?”
I’d joked about getting hit by the reincarnation truck for so long that I’d almost convinced myself it would happen.
But it looks like I’ve actually ended up on the “reincarnation” route.
I mean, literally by that reincarnation truck you read about in every novel that is about being teleported in another world
Even my three-year-old niece wouldn’t fall for such an old cliché.
I slapped myself hard across the face with my right hand.
I saw stars for a moment and then they faded.
Alright.
Not a dream.
Next step: figure out what ‘kind’ of other world I’d ended up in.
I was surprisingly calm.
Actually, I was too confused to panic.
I mean, just yesterday, I was a stay-at-home gamer and streamer, and now here I am, after getting hit by a truck, going into who-knows-how-many-years of a coma, waking up in some unknown place.
If I could stay calm and collected in this situation, *that* would be the weird thing.
This wasn’t a dream, but I acted like I was dreaming.
Looking around, I was in a massive stone chamber, dimly lit.
Massive enough to seem like an afterlife setting, Wait, no. It wasn’t sculpted for decoration.
These were marks of something.
Like something clawed or hacked at the walls in a massive fight.
“At least my body’s fine.”
After streaming solo for so long, talking to myself became second nature.
I glanced around the hall quickly and noticed two enormous statues.
One, a familiar-looking white goddess statue.
The other, an unfamiliar and creepy thing patched together with metal bits.
I looked at my reflection in the dull metal and blinked.
It wasn’t my usual face.
I saw a stranger’s face on the surface of the metal.
“Huh. Not bad.”
Brief assessment done.
My overall appearance had a brownish tone, but my whole look gave off a refreshing, almost emerald-like vibe.
I was way younger than before, and my skin was flawless, with striking features.
I gave my unfamiliar new face a smile.
Possessing a handsome body was a good thing, at least.
Who knows? Maybe I’d be able to live an incubus-style harem life here with the local ladies…okay, maybe too far.
Anyway, at least back on Earth, I’d have a face good enough to make a living off of.
Trying to calm my mind, taking a few steps back to get a better look at this weird metal thing.
It looked like some kind of old, busted-up made out of junk metal.
It was hanging high in the air, bound by four giant chains that extended from the walls.
Creepy.
As soon as my eyes met that dusty, ancient robot, a shiver ran down my spine.
Goosebumps.
Maybe it was my imagination,It even seemed like some black smoke was coming out of it.
Shaking my head to clear my mind, trying to snap out of the confusion, and quickly moved to the hall’s entrance.
Every sense was screaming at me to get out of there.
As soon as I threw open the door and stepped out, a sudden brightness hit my eyes, making me instinctively shield them.
After blinking a few times, I saw it.
A long corridor stretching out, and between the pillars along the way, a shockingly blue sky.
My jaw dropped at the sight.
The kind of deep, vibrant blue you’d only see in anime.
So blue it almost defied reality.
Slowly, I started down the corridor.
After passing what felt like hundreds of columns, I’d been walking for a while and hadn’t seen a single person—not even an ant.
When I reached a courtyard with some greenery, still nothing.
Thud, thud, thud.
Then, I heard footsteps coming from down the corridor I’d just walked through.
But it wasn’t the sound of human footsteps. It was lighter, like a dog or cat running.
I thought back at the speed of light in reincarnation web novels.
**Isekai Reincarnation Rule #1: You always run into a monster as soon as you arrive.**
Reflexively, scanned for something I could use as a weapon.
My eyes landed on a big rock about the size of my face.
With a determined glint in my eyes, I picked it up.
This was like a rite of passage.
Do I qualify as a real isekai reincarnator?
But seriously, if they’re going to reincarnate me, the least they could do is tell me what world I’m in.
Isn’t there supposed to be a guide or some kind of starting skill? They made me reincarnate with the reincarnation truck, so why ignore all the other clichés?
I sighed as I watched the dust kick up around my approaching enemy.
Looks like I don’t have any special powers.
But my body did feel a bit lighter than it did back on Earth.
I may have been a bit of a shut-in gamer, but I worked out at the gym every day for the sake of my health.
I could handle this little rite of passage.
Ruff, ruff, ruff!
The creature finally came into view, barking like a dog.
Two horns on its head.
Jagged teeth sticking out.
Its skin was blood-red with dark brown tiger-like stripes.
Wow, what a scary-looking beast.
Though… it did look oddly familiar.
“Hey, haven’t we met somewhere before?”
I threw out a cheesy pick-up line from the ’80s as I tightened my grip on the rock.
Forget introductions; I had to focus on surviving.
I didn’t want to get the death-ending right after reincarnating.
Grrrr, ruff, ruff!
The red wolf leaped at me, jaws wide open, revealing some nasty yellow teeth dripping with drool.
So unrealistically sharp.
My prediction kicked in, and I threw the rock at the wolf, but it just bounced off its head.
Ruff, ruff!!
Great.
Now I’d only made it angrier.
The wolf’s jaws snapped shut, and I rolled to the side, just barely dodging its attack.
I felt a sharp sting in my shoulder.
When I glanced at it, a chunk of my flesh was missing.
I groaned instinctively.
Is this what it would feel like to press a hot iron into my shoulder?
The searing pain was nothing like the fantasy pain I’d felt playing games or reading web novels.
My vision started to blur, and my hands and feet began to shake.
That’s when the fear really started to set in.
Grrrrr!
I rolled to the left again to dodge another lunge.
I didn’t look graceful, more like some clumsy insect just rolling around.
Anything to get away from those nasty yellow teeth.
For god’s sake, someone save me!
At some point, the wolf stopped attacking. It just started making low growling sounds.
Its howling rattled my ears.
Drool dripped from its mouth as if it was mocking me.
Its jaw, stretched up to its ears, looked just like a sneer.
The pain was intense, but the humiliation from this creature stung even more.
I may not be skilled at fighting, but I’ve been a gamer and competitive spirit for years.
And if there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s losing.
Getting looked down on by a creature barely up to my waist, like it’s saying, “You’re pathetic?” I wasn’t having it.
I picked up another rock lying on the ground and took a step forward.
The wolf sneered, as if taunting me, before charging straight at me.
“Take this, you damn mutt!”
I swung the rock with a prediction aim, screaming to assert my dominance.
Calculated the distance, the wolf’s speed, the strength in my arm.
My swing was already in motion before it even got close.
I’m a veteran, you little punk!”
Thunk!
My rock hit the wolf square in the head with pinpoint accuracy.
“You’re already dead, you damn mutt!”
Just to be clear, this wasn’t swearing. This was asserting my identity.
Whimper!
Great sound.
The impact and my punch threw me off balance, but the wolf took the blow to the head, thrashing around.
I picked up the blood-stained rock with both hands and stood over the wolf’s head.
Thunk, thunk!
I smashed down with everything I had.
Once you gain the upper hand, you never let up. You squeeze them dry like a dishcloth.
If you win by speed, you crush them before they can even use a skill.
Like Samsung Galaxy White in its prime.
That’s my philosophy.
Never underestimate a reincarnated veteran.
Just as I was trying to catch my breath, a strange mechanical sound rang out.
[Synchronization complete.]
The voice was clear and loud, like someone whispering right into my ear.
I snapped back to my senses, looking over at the limp wolf corpse.
It looked familiar, and I finally realized what it was.
An Ankera.
A low-level, two-star wolf monster.
So it seems… I’ve been reincarnated into the game *Epic Seven,* which I was just playing before.
