He placed his palm on the table, right next to her shoulder, as if to trap her– and with the other hand, he reached out with his long fingers and held the end of the ribbon tie that held the front of her dress open.
Asella’s chest rose and fell rapidly as she tensed under him. Calix’s gaze scanned her facial features one by one. The eyes that were reddened by tears, the flushed cheeks, and plump lips, and the white, slender neckline. It was all there was to it, yet it was seductive enough to be provocative.
In an instant, the calmness vanished from his face.
At that moment, when desire filled his blood-red eyes, and his veins pulsated on his forearm, gripping the table.
“Your Grace.”
Calix’s movements came to a halt at the sound of the feminine voice.
Asella was delicately holding his wrist with both hands. Calix’s eyes momentarily showed surprise. It was the first time she had made the first move since their wedding day.
With a face that seemed like it would burst into tears at any moment, Asella shook her head.
“When night falls… in the bedroom, I don’t like it here.”
“…..”
After all, It was early in the evening, and on top of that, in the dining room.
Calix silently looked down at his wife. Her subtle movements were desperate and unbeknown to her, the touch of her was so warm that his wrist felt as if it could burn at any moment. The delicate shiver that passed through his skin made his heart beat uncontrollably.
‘What on earth is this…’
To his surprise, the raging anger that had been bubbling up had subsided as if it had never been there. The frenzy that of his rampage that had been running wild also quieted down. He couldn’t believe it.
A bitter laugh escaped him. Was it even logical to say that her holding his wrist was capable of doing all of that?
Calix continued to speak in a cold tone as if trying to hide his embarrassment.
“Whether you like it or not, it’s my decision.”
“But… it’s our first night.”
Damn it. Calix clenched his fist. Despite her relatively clear speech, tears were now streaming down Asella’s large pupils.
Though he would never admit it to himself, he was weak against his wife’s tears.
Whenever he saw his wife, who was like a bird caught in a trap, with her eyes dripping like this, conflicting emotions would well up inside him.
He regretted what he had done; he wanted to hold her in his arms and comfort her. To put it simply, it hurt him when he saw her trying to avoid him, and that’s why he wanted to break her wings and lock her up in a cage so she could remain by his side.
Never to fly again. To stay obediently within his cage and crave for his touch.
“Crying won’t do you any good.”
Calix’s hand cupped Asella’s cheek. The dampness from her tear-stained cheeks transferred to his palm.
There were a lot of tears; it was fascinating to see how many tears were pouring from her small body.
“I won’t let you get away with it this time.”
His words were cold, but his actions were so tender and sweet that it almost seemed like honey was dripping from it.
With his finger, he gently wiped away the teardrop that had gathered under Asella’s eyes and slowly slid his hand downward.
