“Have you forgotten your duty?”
In the end, Calix resorted to the means most familiar to him. Using force and intimidation to get what he wanted.
Setting a trap that could only be fallen into, he waited for the prey’s response. With trembling lips, a small voice emerged.
“I haven’t forgotten…”
Calix’s red eyes narrowed. A satisfied smile crept onto the lips of the ruthless and relentless hunter.
But he intended to go even further, to make things even clearer here. To ensure that she was fully aware of her place. To prevent any other thoughts from arising. To bind herself with the words she had spoken.
“Well, then, you must know what to say.”
After several moments of her lips trembling, Asella found her answer.
“I will fulfill my duties as your wife.”
“I don’t understand what you mean.”
However, Calix’s response remained cold. While observing her growing fear, he pronounced his words sternly.
“Say it precisely.”
Tears began to well up in her blue irises. As if trying to wipe away the tears accumulating beneath her eyes, she blinked repeatedly. Her delicate hand, resting on his chest, trembled slightly.
Struggling to open her mouth, she answered in a hoarse voice.
“A, a child…”
A single tear rolled down her pale cheek. However, Asella didn’t even attempt to wipe it away. With her gaze fixed on Calix, she spoke.
“I want a child…”
* * *
Calix’s lips twisted without any effort.
Does this woman know? That her lies are so glaringly obvious.
He could see right through her. Calix thought he would feel better once he got the answer he wanted, but that was not the case at all. Frustration overcame him as he watched her struggle to articulate herself, unable to speak, her eyes filled with tears.
“I want a child,” she said.
He returned with a cold expression and asked in a flat voice, “Is it sincere?”
Asella blinked her eyes slowly and nodded her head. It was a disingenuous answer. He felt something deep inside his chest withering away.
“Ah…!”
Asella let out a scream of despair. It was because Calix had put strength into the arm that was wrapped around her waist, lifting her body into the air. In just two steps, the edge of the table touched the back of Asella’s thigh. Startled, she reached back and grabbed onto the edge of the table.
Behind her was a solid marble table, and in front of her, Calix blocked her path, leaving her no room to escape. Trapped in this situation, Asella didn’t know what to do as she stared at him.
Calix spoke in a cold tone.
“Then, is there a need to delay?”
