“Your Majesty, can we move forward with Asella’s marriage plans, considering she will soon come of age?”
“Do as you wish.”
It was only later that he learned that her partner was Calix Benevito. Although it bothered him slightly, he didn’t truly care. After all, she was a useless woman, and he had more pressing matters to attend to.
“It’s not the best course of action, but it’s not the worst.”
Seven years ago, while Adele attempted to save her daughter through an ancient ritual, he managed to cast a spell on her daughter. Even now, after all this time, it seemed that the spell still had its effects in some way. The reports from the spies he had planted in the Chartus residence confirmed its continued effectiveness.
‘Seems like Philip has severely beaten her for refusing to marry the Grand Duke. Her condition is worse than usual.’
‘I heard that she begged him just to avoid the marriage with the Grand Duke.’
‘She couldn’t even meet the Grand Duke’s eyes properly during the wedding ceremony, Your Majesty.’
“What an unlucky child.”
Fernandez lightly flicked the string with his finger, causing it to vibrate and emit a pitiful sound. The sensation that traveled through his fingertips was exhilarating, as manipulating someone’s life always provided him with an intoxicating thrill.
As long as this string existed, Adele’s first born daughter could never escape his dark magic. She would remain trapped in delusions, haunted by hallucinations, and dragged along like a puppet with only a future filled with darkness.
“If you want to blame someone, blame your stepfather.”
It would have been better for her to have married an ordinary man instead.
“What can you do? This is your fate.”
Calix Benvito had unnecessarily meddled with something he shouldn’t have. Since Fernandez couldn’t direct his anger toward him, he planned to take out his frustration in some way and find amusement at the same time. If he could also make the Grand Duke miserable in the process, it would be an added bonus.
“Now, fear even more. Despair in overwhelming terror.”
Once again, black smoke spewed out of Fernandez’s hand.
“Continue to fear for your life, suspecting your husband over and over again.”
The black smoke, full of malice, seeped into the strings, then, the string turned black for a moment before returning to its original color. This was his method of intensifying the spell he had cast.
In the face of sorcery, the victim’s character and abilities became almost useless. It led even the wisest individuals to make foolish judgments and transformed those with strong mental mentality into weak, foolish, and irrational beings.
This was because Fernandez’s black magic seeks out and penetrates the weakest parts of his victims’ minds. Feeding on anxiety, it injected fear and paralyzed rational thinking.
Once he’d wreaked such havoc on their minds, most couldn’t endure it. They either couldn’t take it and committed suicide, or became broken dolls with shattered minds.
‘That would be a sight to behold.’
Just the mere thought of how this would unfold brought pleasure to Fernandez’s being.
“Might as well destroy them before they have a child.”
Aside from Calix, there were no surviving members of the Benvito lineage. As the Emperor, it was quite a pleasing idea, if he could eliminate the current Grand Duke, the bothersome Benvito family would be completely erased from his life once and for all.
“One can never truly know a person.”
He didn’t think the arrogant Grand Duke would easily lay with his wife, but it wouldn’t hurt to be cautious in advance.
“It’s about time to get rid of the Benvito’s bloodline altogether, isn’t it?”
Fernandez’s hand grip tightened around the string. It was brutal, it was as if he was toying with helpless prey until its last breath. The thin string twitched and flickered constantly.
“I’m looking forward to your struggle.”
A cruel smile crept across the Emperor’s lips.
