Fernandez, left alone in the office, swept his eyes over the items placed before him.
His gaze lingered on the worn-out clothes that reflected the passage of time. It was faint, but it still had traces of the spells he had cast in the past. A satisfied grin spread across Fernandez’s face.
“Not bad at all.”
Fernandez snapped his fingers in the air, and in response, hundreds of translucent threads extended from him. Each thread bound a person who had fallen victim to his black magic.
Studying the threads intently, Fernandez sighed and spread his hand.
“Causing trouble again, are we?”
As the dark energy slowly emanated from his palm, the threads began to writhe and twist.
“It’s futile, no matter what.”
Even if they tried to hide, finding them was only a matter of time. For there was no way to break loose from his spell’s influence unless the other person was extremely powerful or he decided to let them go.
Well, there was another simple way to break loose, death.
“Very well, try hiding wherever you want.”
Fernandez stood in his place, humming cheerfully. Then, he turned slowly on his heels. However, his eyes scanning the end of each thread were as sharp as a well-polished blade.
Sensing a faint vibration from somewhere, the Emperor narrowed his eyes.
“So, the game of hide-and-seek is already over.”
Unlike the other, this thread was thin, as if it could snap at any moment. It flickered, becoming transparent and then visible again. The thread, trembling almost pathetically, was weakly pulled when Fernandez tugged at it.
He clicked his tongue in displeasure.
“I can’t believe it’s already this tattered.”
He hadn’t used it for some time, except for some recent occasions when he planted nightmares for Asella. But even with just that, the condition of the thread had deteriorated quite a bit.
“I’ll fix it.”
A black current emanated from Fernandez’s body and swiftly enveloped the objects that Philip had brought. Within the black flames, the clothes and items turned into ashes. However, in contrast, the thread he held became increasingly distinct in shape and thicker.
“That should be enough.”
Fernandez smirked and chuckled softly.
It was easier to break a girl traumatized by the loss of her mother than to crush a freshly bloomed flower. He subjected her to abuse and mercilessly trampled her, using Philip as his instrument.
‘But it seems like Philip himself started to enjoy tormenting her in the end.’
After confirming that she didn’t have any special abilities, Fernandez deemed that she was no longer worth the effort and didn’t care anymore. There was no point in using his magic on her, so he left it alone. What he had been observing and paying attention to all along was not the already broken firstborn but the second born.
