Chapter 9: Behind the Scenes and Yi Chen’s Choice (Part 1)

After a series of vigorous left and right tosses.
Yi Chen had basically completed his testing, arriving at a conclusion.
That is, for such corporeal evil spirits, pure physical attacks actually do deal a certain damage, only that the force is weakened by the protective corpse qi, barely transmitting one-tenth of its power.
Only by breaking through that protective corpse qi can the force have more room to play.
After completing the tests, Yi Chen stopped his actions, holding onto the ankle of the female corpse bride, pondering.
He sensed something was amiss.
This was also why he left the female corpse bride “alive”; otherwise, by stimulating pure Yang qi, with his brutally violent method of left and right smashing, ten female jiangshis would have been dead.
Aside from the first hit, Yi Chen mainly used pure physical strength to smash the female jiangshi subsequently.
Even so, the female corpse bride has now dissipated her corpse qi, her head deformed, tormented to the point that the person controlling her might not recognize this was their refined corpse.
“Wow, just as I was enjoying it, why did Taoist Master Yi suddenly stop?”
“I have no idea. Perhaps Taoist Master is concocting some other scheme. His heart is dirty like those who strategize; he even tricked a jiangshi before.” Wang Lao Si peeked in the crowd, looking scared but curious.
…
Yi Chen:
The conversations among the crowd were crystal clear to Yi Chen. He looked deeply at Wang Lao Si, who mentioned his dirty heart, memorizing his face.
Holding a grudge.jpg.
Your mom’s grocery shopping must always be expensive, Wang Lao Si.
After silently cursing Wang Lao Si, the morally upright Taoist Master Yi decided to magnanimously forgive him. He then released the ankle of the jiangshi bride and whispered a few words to Master Lianhua, who nodded repeatedly.
Meanwhile, the female corpse bride slowly opened her eyes, struggling to stand up, and began hopping towards a certain direction out of the town.
Her body’s black corpse qi was slowly dissipating, but as it faded, her eyes gained a certain indescribable meaning.
Yi Chen followed about thirty meters behind the female corpse bride, with Master Lianhua, Constable Zhang, and others discreetly trailing behind.
Yi Chen had felt puzzled seeing the female jiangshi dressed in a bright red wedding gown. Usually, who would dress their refined corpse in such attire? If this was unintentional, then the person refining this corpse was quite bizarre…
Wang Lao Si’s casual remark also reminded him.
“This female corpse bride looks just like Xiao Cui, who drowned herself two months ago.”
These doubts, combined with Master Lianhua’s deduction that the person behind this was a townsfolk or related to the town, made Yi Chen decide to gamble by letting this iron-armored corpse go. Following her might bring a surprise.
After all, if he guessed wrong, he could chase her down and kill her later. Either way, it was worth a try.
Master Lianhua agreed, convincing everyone to consent, leading to the current scene.
The group followed the jiangshi out of the town to a small wooden house.
A signboard hung on the house’s entrance, bearing the three characters “Fushou Tang” (Blessing and Longevity Hall), with a soul-attracting flag and two high quality redwood coffins placed upright in the yard.
“Eh, isn’t this the house of Boss Shi of the coffin shop? Why have we come here?” A young man in the crowd, noticing the white flag fluttering in the wind, expressed his astonishment.
Yi Chen gestured for the others to stop following, while he continued to tail the corpse bride.
Under the cover of night, Yi Chen failed to notice that as the corpse qi gradually dissipated, the deformed head of the female corpse bride slowly returned to normal, her previously ghastly complexion now revealing her delicate features.
Yet, as the corpse qi continued to fade, the female corpse bride’s hopping grew lower and slower until she couldn’t even hop over the wall of Fushou Tang.
Just then, the door creaked open, and a dark figure lifted the female corpse bride into the yard by her waist.
With a bang, the door slammed shut.
“There’s definitely something fishy. Master, cover for me outside.”
“I’ll go have a look .” Yi Chen shouted to Master Lianhua before approaching the house’s entrance, contemplating for a moment, then smiling. Kicking the door open, the doors shattered, impressing the onlookers.
