- Chapter 85 - Overthinking It, Call Me Your Wife
Xu Yang, rendered speechless by Ji Hongluan’s sudden words and actions, lowered his head awkwardly.
Ji Hongluan noticed his retreat, her gaze turning frosty as she lifted his chin with a finger, looking down at him with a teasing but predatory gleam.
“Are you actually enjoying this?”
“Uh…” Xu Yang hesitated, clearly caught off guard.
“You think I was joking about the price, don’t you? No, this was a trap I set, and you fell right into it!”
“I’ve been so devoted to you, treating you like my entire world. Yet you keep rejecting and hurting me! Xu Yang, you’re heartless!”
Her voice turned icy as her words spilled out, the weight of her presence as a Venerable pressing down on him. Unable to move under her sheer pressure, Xu Yang remained frozen as Ji Hongluan pulled back slightly, her tone softening into a chilling whisper:
“But don’t worry, I’ll make sure you give in to me. It’s only a matter of time.”
“You must be feeling awful right now, aren’t you? Stuck here, unable to do anything, just watching but unable to act. Isn’t it frustrating?”
Xu Yang’s heart sank.
He hadn’t anticipated Ji Hongluan turning her own allure into a weapon to corner him. Still, the sheer arrogance of thinking a mere pressure from a Venerable could hold him was almost laughable.
He smiled faintly, meeting her gaze.
“It’s not so bad. My blood and energy calmed down quickly.”
“Tsk!”
Ji Hongluan clicked her tongue, her eyes narrowing in mockery.
“Calmed down? You really are the densest idiot under the heavens!”
“Do you think I wouldn’t notice? Or that I’d stop there?”
Xu Yang’s lips twitched at her confidence.
“And what else can you do to me, Fairy Ji?”
“Oh, I can do plenty. Like this!”
Ji Hongluan leaned closer, her lips curling into a mischievous smirk.
Xu Yang braced himself, determined not to fall for her tricks again.
But he had underestimated her boldness.
Her tone turned chilling as she whispered:
“If you won’t surrender, I’ll make this as slow and painful as possible.”
Xu Yang’s thoughts screeched to a halt.
‘What kind of torment is this?!’
“Fairy Ji, where did you learn all this?” Xu Yang couldn’t help but ask, his tone betraying a mix of exasperation and curiosity.
Ji Hongluan crossed her arms, tapping a finger against her chin thoughtfully.
“Some of it’s from books. The rest? Just my own little experiments.”
“Fairy Ji, your intelligence is truly unparalleled,” Xu Yang said, genuinely impressed.
Ji Hongluan’s cheeks flushed slightly at the unexpected praise, her tone softening.
“Oh, stop it. I’m really not that clever…”
“But if you’d just give in to me, I wouldn’t have to keep experimenting, and you wouldn’t have to suffer like this,” she added, her voice laced with seductive charm.
“Suffer? I don’t feel any discomfort at all,” Xu Yang replied with a calm smile.
Her expression shifted as her gaze dropped momentarily.
“You already calmed yourself down?” Ji Hongluan’s eyes darkened, her voice tinged with disbelief and anger.
“Without my permission?”
She reached out as if to act again, but Xu Yang finally decided to end this farce. With a swift motion, he turned the tables, pinning her onto the white jade seat beneath them.
Ji Hongluan, completely caught off guard, stared up at him in shock, her earlier predatory demeanor crumbling into one of startled vulnerability.
“How did you break free?”
“Fairy Ji, you underestimated me. I was never really restrained. I just wanted to see what other tricks you had up your sleeve,” Xu Yang replied with a grin.
“You—!”
Ji Hongluan’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as her lips trembled. The fierce, headstrong demeanor she’d displayed earlier dissolved into something fragile and pitiful.
“W-What are you going to do to me?” she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Xu Yang leaned back slightly, unsure how to handle her sudden shift in behavior.
“What do you think?” he asked, his tone deliberately gruff.
Ji Hongluan’s eyes filled with tears as she whimpered, her voice trembling:
“Please don’t hurt me…”
Xu Yang’s resolve wavered as he saw her crumble before him. ‘Where did the terrifyingly bold fairy go?’ he thought, flustered.
With a resigned sigh, he pulled out a handkerchief to gently dab away her tears.
“Alright, alright, stop crying. I’m not going to do anything to you. If the other Peak Masters see you like this, they’ll say I’ve been disrespectful to my superiors. They might even call the Grand Elder to discipline me!”
“Wouldn’t they be right? You’ve already disobeyed me so many times,” Ji Hongluan muttered, sniffling.
“And you’d just let the Grand Elder punish me?” Xu Yang asked dryly.
Her eyes widened indignantly.
“How dare they! With me protecting you, they wouldn’t dare!”
Xu Yang sighed inwardly. Divert the conversation, avoid the mess.
“Fairy Ji, I understand your feelings for me, and I do care for you. But I can’t give myself to you alone. I won’t lie to you, even if it would make things easier.”
“Liar! You have to take responsibility for what you’ve done to me!”
Xu Yang blinked.
“I was the one being cornered!”
“Then I’ll take responsibility for you. You’ll belong to me alone!” Ji Hongluan declared stubbornly, her eyes burning with conviction.
Realizing this conversation was spiraling out of control again, Xu Yang decided to drop the topic entirely.
“Fairy Ji, I believe there might be more demonic spies hiding within Heavenly Thunder Peak.”
“I don’t want to hear it!” Ji Hongluan said, covering her ears.
“Then what do you want to hear?” Xu Yang asked, exasperated.
“I want to hear you call me ‘wife!’”
She gazed at him with wide, pleading eyes, her voice soft but insistent.
“You already rejected me once. Don’t reject me a second time…”
“…Wife?” Xu Yang asked hesitantly.
“Louder!”
“Wife.”
“Again! And keep going!”
“Wife! Wife! Wife!”
By the tenth repetition, it came so naturally that Xu Yang was caught off guard by how easily the word rolled off his tongue.
Ji Hongluan, thoroughly satisfied, tapped her communication device to record the moment before tossing him an ornate token.
“I agree about Heavenly Thunder Peak. Here’s my Sect Master Token. With this, you represent me—go investigate thoroughly.”
“Yes… wife,” Xu Yang replied reflexively, realizing too late what he’d just said.
“Good, husband,” Ji Hongluan said with a sly smile, her eyes twinkling mischievously.
Xu Yang: …
‘It really does roll off the tongue too easily…’
