- Chapter 143 - The World Is Shocked, the Qixi Festival
With the events in White Emperor City, driven by people with ulterior motives, almost all the five regions of the world knew about Xu Yang. Both the young and the old were shocked!
Fighting against six demon lords while only in the Divine Transformation realm!
This terrifying fighting power reminded many people of the young Immortal Emperors recorded in ancient books. When they were young, they were also so stunning, like meteors crossing the sky, leaving their deep marks in the long river of time.
Could it be that Xu Yang is also destined to follow the invincible path of the young Immortal Emperors?
Across the five regions, hidden holy lands and immortals could not sit still after learning this shocking news. They immediately sent spies to White Emperor City to verify whether the news was true or false.
If it was true, then Xu Yang would be a holy son, a great enemy on the road to immortality!
After all, the path to immortality has always been cruel. To prove one’s Dao and ascend, one must trample on the blood and bones of other geniuses.
…
In the demon clan’s Black Tortoise Immortal Mountain, within a cave dense with spiritual energy, a massive demon beast as large as a hill sat entrenched. The creature bore a tortoise shell on its back, and a black snake as thick as a barrel coiled atop it. Its entire being exuded ancient nobility, radiating an aura of immense power and demonic energy.
This demon was the Black Tortoise Emperor, a renowned and fearsome figure in the demon clan over the past century.
A little demon crouched by his ear and respectfully reported, “My Lord, the spy you sent has confirmed the truth of the matter!”
The Black Tortoise Emperor’s enormous, lantern-like eyes opened wide with amazement.
“Qingming Sect has actually nurtured a true dragon! Inform the master—I shall visit Qingming Sect in a few days to meet this True Lord Xu Yang personally!”
“Yes, my Lord.”
…
In the ancient lands of the Ji family, hidden among ethereal mountains where purple qi flourished and clouds shimmered like waves, the scenery was nothing short of celestial. Palaces and pavilions hung suspended in the air, cranes soared high, and powerful figures traversed the skies.
In one particularly grand palace, radiating divine light, an old man wearing a purple-gold crown sat at the head seat. Behind him, it seemed as if three thousand worlds revolved—a figure as ancient and majestic as a god.
The old man examined a jade slip in his hand, divine light flashing in his eyes, and spoke, “Qingming Sect… Xu Yang.”
“I recall the leader of Qingming Sect is a member of my Ji family’s collateral branch!”
A clan member beside him promptly confirmed, “Yes, ancestor. The leader of the Qingming Sect, Ji Hongluan, is an exceptional talent. Despite being under a hundred years old, she has already reached the Void Shattering realm, surpassing most of our direct descendants.”
“Hmph!” the old man snorted coldly. “If she is so remarkable, why has the clan failed to prioritize her training and instead allowed her to lead a mere mortal sect?”
The clan member immediately knelt down and apologized, “Ancestor, this is our negligence. Please punish me!”
Although he was quite old himself, in front of this ancestor, he appeared no more than a child.
“The golden age is approaching. If we continue to divide our clan into direct and collateral branches, we risk losing our best talents to other forces,” the ancestor declared. “From now on, there will be no such distinction. Those who demonstrate excellence will receive ample resources, and those who perform exceptionally will train under me personally!”
“Yes, ancestor,” the clan member replied, bowing deeply.
The old man then asked, “Does Ji Hongluan have a husband? Or perhaps a favorite Daoist partner?”
The clan member answered truthfully, “To my knowledge, ancestor, she is not married. Hongluan is proud and ambitious—none of the young men in the mortal world can capture her interest. Many in the clan say she is stunningly beautiful.”
“In that case, send someone to ask her if she’s interested in Xu Yang. If she is, encourage her to act quickly. This hero reminds me of my youth—it would be a pity if he didn’t become my son-in-law!”
The ancestor’s words left the clan members astonished. After all, when the ancestor was young, he had competed with a young Immortal Emperor himself. Though he ultimately failed to ascend due to unforeseen circumstances, his supreme status within the Ji family remained unshaken.
If Xu Yang carried the same aura as their ancestor’s younger days…
“Yes, ancestor! I will go to Qingming Sect immediately!” The clan member dared not delay and quickly set off.
With the events in White Emperor City, driven by people with ulterior motives, almost all the five regions of the world knew about Xu Yang. Both the young and the old were shocked!
Fighting against six demon lords while in the Divine Transformation realm!
This terrifying feat reminded many of the young immortal emperors recorded in ancient books. When they were young, they too were stunning, like meteors streaking across the sky, leaving their deep marks in the annals of time.
Could Xu Yang also be destined to follow the invincible path of the young immortal emperors?
…
“Wait!”
The Ji family ancestor stopped the departing clan member, his expression contemplative. After a moment, he said, “First, select a young woman from the direct lineage. She should be as beautiful as a fairy, have a quiet and virtuous personality, and possess superior cultivation talent.”
“After selecting her, take her to Qingming Sect! If that Hongluan girl doesn’t favor Xu Yang, it’s good to have a backup!”
“Of course, this possibility is very small. There’s no woman in this world who wouldn’t admire such a talented young man, especially one as handsome as Xu Yang!”
“Yes, ancestor!”
The clan members respectfully retreated to carry out the order.
Meanwhile, on a spirit boat several dozen feet long, elegantly decorated and sailing smoothly through the clouds.
Qin Kewan, dressed in a goose-yellow palace skirt, wandered towards the cabin where Yuan Kouxuan had sequestered herself.
Since leaving White Emperor City, she had been stuck on the spirit boat for days, deprived of any interesting foods. Spirit fruits were all she had been eating, and her appetite had dwindled. On top of that, she had calculated that the mortal world was celebrating the Qixi Festival—known for commemorating the love story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.
Every time she thought about the festival, with its bustling vendors selling delicacies, she felt even more dissatisfied.
Practicing cultivation? She was completely uninterested at this moment.
She decided to seek out her senior sister to chat and pass the time.
Reaching Yuan Kouxuan’s door, Qin Kewan noticed that it was slightly ajar. Peeking inside, she saw her senior sister seemingly busy with something. Curious, she crept closer without disturbing her.
But just as she approached, Yuan Kouxuan turned, setting down a piece of fabric, and coldly said, “Wan’er, why didn’t you knock before coming in?”
“How boring!” Qin Kewan muttered to herself, then stuck out her tongue and replied, “The door wasn’t closed, so I thought I’d just come in!”
Yuan Kouxuan quickly hid a paintbrush behind her, glaring at Qin Kewan.
“Wan’er, what are you doing here?”
Qin Kewan didn’t answer immediately. Instead, her eyes sparkled as she darted over to the bed, where several small, colorful garments lay. Picking one up, she exclaimed, “Senior sister, you know today is Qixi Festival, don’t you? Look at this—it’s embroidered with mandarin ducks!”
Startled, Yuan Kouxuan snatched the garment back, her expression flustered.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Qixi Festival? Never heard of it!”
“But look at this one!” Qin Kewan held up another garment. “It’s embroidered with the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl standing on the Magpie Bridge. How do you explain this?”
Yuan Kouxuan was at a loss. Awkwardly, she began putting all the garments into her storage ring.
“Fine, yes, I know about Qixi Festival! Can you stop now?” she finally snapped.
Qin Kewan grinned triumphantly. “That’s better!”
But as Yuan Kouxuan tucked the garments away, Qin Kewan frowned. “Why are you putting them all away? I want to look at them!”
Yuan Kouxuan calmly replied, “Why wouldn’t I put them away?”
“You could at least let me admire them a little longer!” Qin Kewan protested, reaching for the garments.
Yuan Kouxuan slapped her hand away. “Admire what? They’re mine!”
Qin Kewan rubbed her hand and grumbled, “Fine! If you don’t want them, give them to me to wear!”
Yuan Kouxuan crossed her legs and said casually, “Didn’t you always say you preferred wearing men’s clothes? Besides, my style doesn’t suit you.”
“Who says it doesn’t suit me? I’m not Senior Sister Xue. I could pull it off!” Qin Kewan retorted angrily.
“Stop messing around, Wan’er. Be good and go out. I need to practice,” Yuan Kouxuan said, her tone firm.
“No!” Qin Kewan crossed her arms defiantly.
“Will you leave, or not?” Yuan Kouxuan’s expression turned cold as she reached for the Qing’ai Sword beside her. The sword gleamed menacingly.
Seeing the sword, Qin Kewan flinched and backed away. “Fine, Senior Sister, you practice. I won’t bother you!”
With that, she bolted from the room, closing the door behind her.
Once Qin Kewan was gone, Yuan Kouxuan let out a sigh of relief. She had noticed her junior sister approaching earlier and managed to conceal her work just in time.
If Qin Kewan had caught her in the act, Yuan Kouxuan truly wouldn’t have known how to explain herself.
TN// The qixi festival is basically Chinese Valentines Day, but it doesn’t make sense in the context of the novel to fully translate it to that so I am leaving it be.
