- Chapter 122 - "I Can't, I Just Know a Bit"
At the highest level of the Ascending Heaven Tower.
“Senior Xu, your mastery of the Dao is awe-inspiring. This junior is full of admiration!”
“Senior Xu’s combat strength must have already reached the Seven Forbidden Realms!”
“Not just Seven Forbidden—I’m sure he’s mastered the Ten Forbidden!”
“Senior Xu, may I ask if Purple Cloud Peak is still accepting personal disciples?”
A group of heirs from the immortal clans surrounded Xu Yang, bombarding him with flattery. Some even inquired about joining Purple Cloud Peak. Their intentions weren’t just to associate themselves with Immortal Mountain but to align with Xu Yang, believing he was destined to rise as a pivotal figure in the coming golden age. His performance today suggested that he could dominate his generation and even ascend to become an Immortal Emperor.
“We’re not accepting any,” Yuan Kouxuan’s cold voice replied on behalf of her master, rejecting the requests outright.
To her, these pampered heirs would only bring trouble and ruin the atmosphere at Purple Cloud Peak. Besides, they already had someone like Qin Kewan; no more disruptions were needed.
“My apologies, I was too presumptuous!”
The rejected heir didn’t seem angry. After all, compared to someone like Qin Wan, his qualifications were indeed lacking.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yaomeng’s eyes were red with tears. She gazed at Qin Kewan with a mix of sorrow and reproach.
“Brother Wan… no, Sister Kewan, you’ve deceived me terribly!”
Qin Kewan looked slightly embarrassed and explained, “I didn’t mean to deceive you. Disguising myself as a man makes traveling the world far less troublesome.”
This was born from experience. In the past, traveling openly as a woman to mortal cities in search of food had attracted countless nuisances—pampered young masters who hovered like flies. Though she could easily swat them away, their presence ruined her appetite.
“I understand, it’s just…” Jiang Yaomeng trailed off, hesitating.
“Just what?” Qin Kewan asked.
“Just… I want to ask, Sister Kewan, are you truly not interested in women?” Jiang Yaomeng asked shyly, fingers twisting nervously as she lowered her head.
Cough!
Qin Kewan choked on her own breath, waving her hands frantically. “Yaomeng, I’m truly not interested in women…”
“Why not give it a try?” Jiang Yaomeng raised her gaze, stubbornly meeting Qin Kewan’s eyes.
Sensing the conversation heading in a dangerous direction, Jiang Haoyu quickly stepped in, covering his sister’s mouth. Turning to Xu Yang, he apologized, “I beg Senior Xu’s pardon. My sister has been spoiled since childhood, and her words often lack propriety.”
Xu Yang wasn’t offended. With a light laugh, he replied, “Your sister’s innocence and candor remind me of one of my disciples.”
“Senior Xu flatters us. Please, take the seat of honor!”
Realizing Xu Yang’s magnanimity, Jiang Haoyu sighed in relief and extended the invitation for Xu Yang to sit at the head of the table. Initially, he had hoped to befriend Xu Yang as an equal. However, after witnessing Xu Yang’s unparalleled strength, he decided to treat him as a true senior and accord him the highest respect.
Xu Yang accepted the invitation. In a world where strength reigned supreme, his position at the table was unquestionable. Even as the host, Jiang Haoyu would feel uncomfortable sitting in such a place of prominence.
With Xu Yang seated, the others followed suit. Yuan Kouxuan, uninterested in the food, stood behind Xu Yang, cradling her sword. Qin Kewan, however, sat to his left, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Jiang Haoyu signaled for the innkeeper to serve the food.
Soon, a table full of delicacies was brought out. The dishes shimmered with radiant light and exuded rich spiritual energy, made from top-tier ingredients such as Rainbow Chicken, Xuanhuang Snake, and Five-Spirit Lion’s Head.
In an instant, the room was filled with a tantalizing aroma.
“Senior Xu, please enjoy,” Jiang Haoyu said courteously.
“Very well.”
Xu Yang casually picked up his chopsticks, selecting a piece of meat and savoring it. Though such ingredients offered little benefit to someone of his level, the taste alone was enough to satisfy his appetite.
“Not bad,” Xu Yang remarked, nodding in approval. He turned to Yuan Kouxuan and added, “Kouxuan, try some of this meat. It’s quite good.”
Yuan Kouxuan’s cheeks flushed slightly as she leaned forward, accepting the food directly from her master’s chopsticks.
“How is it?” Xu Yang asked.
Lowering her gaze, Yuan Kouxuan’s voice was soft with shyness. “Delicious.”
“Shall I get you more?” Xu Yang asked, pleased.
Before Yuan Kouxuan could respond, he had already picked up several more pieces for her. Her ears turned red as she whispered, “Enough, Master. I’ve had plenty.”
“Master, I can’t eat anymore!”
Qin Kewan pouted, knocking her chopsticks against her plate to draw attention. Her bowl was already piled high with food, but she still felt left out watching her master personally serve her senior sister.
“You can’t eat anymore? Look at your bowl—it’s overflowing!” Xu Yang scolded lightly.
“But it’s not as delicious,” Qin Kewan grumbled, puffing her cheeks.
“And what’s more delicious?”
“Whatever Master feeds me!”
Ignoring the frosty glare from Yuan Kouxuan, Qin Kewan stared at Xu Yang with eager anticipation.
“Fine, fine. I’ll serve you too,” Xu Yang said, indulging her with a few pieces of food.
“Now it’s delicious!” Qin Kewan beamed, finally satisfied.
On the other side, Jiang Yaomeng hesitated to pick up her chopsticks. Before Xu Yang arrived, she had always been the one serving Qin Kewan. But now…
Her intuition told her that Sister Kewan’s feelings for Xu Yang went beyond mere respect for a master.
And so, she had lost. Completely and utterly.
“Senior Xu, does the food suit your tastes?” Jiang Haoyu asked nervously, clearly building up to a more significant question.
“It’s excellent,” Xu Yang replied, setting down his chopsticks. He glanced at Jiang Haoyu and added, “Divine Son Jiang, you seem to have something on your mind. Speak freely.”
“As expected, nothing escapes Senior Xu’s keen insight,” Jiang Haoyu said, humbled. “The truth is, I’ve been struggling to understand a certain divine ability I’ve been cultivating. Even my elders couldn’t help. I humbly seek your guidance, Senior Xu.”
“Is this divine ability a secret art of the Jiang family?” Xu Yang asked.
“No, it’s not a restricted art,” Jiang Haoyu assured him.
“Then let me see it,” Xu Yang said, extending his hand.
Jiang Haoyu respectfully handed him a jade slip containing the technique.
Xu Yang scanned it briefly with his divine sense before returning it. “I see your difficulty.”
Jiang Haoyu was shocked. “Senior Xu, your words are spot on. Could it be you’ve already mastered this technique?”
“Not mastered, just a passing understanding,” Xu Yang replied modestly, waving his hand. Then, with a calm smile, he began to explain,
“You simply need to…”
