- Chapter 107 - Unyielding Pride, Xuan’er’s Breakthrough
White Emperor City, Ascending Heaven Tower
Jiang Yaomeng dragged the dashing young man up to the tower’s highest floor, beaming with pride as she presented him to Jiang Haoyu.
“Big brother, look! I casually picked someone off the street, and he’s already a remarkable talent!”
Her chin was raised, her expression full of anticipation. She was certain her elder brother would praise her.
However, Jiang Haoyu simply stared at her, his expression unreadable. The silence stretched, and Jiang Yaomeng’s confidence began to waver.
Swallowing nervously, she muttered, “Did I… make a mistake again?”
“Gravely so,” Jiang Haoyu replied sternly.
“Let go of this young master immediately! You’re the daughter of the Jiang family, yet you behave so improperly in public, pulling and tugging people like a common ruffian. Where is your dignity?”
“Fine, fine, I’ll let go! Why are you so harsh?” Jiang Yaomeng pouted, reluctantly releasing the young man’s sleeve.
Jiang Haoyu turned to the young man and bowed slightly.
“My apologies, sir. My sister was spoiled growing up, and her manners leave much to be desired. Please don’t take offense.”
The young man rubbed his wrist, a faint smile on his face.
“Not at all. Your sister’s directness and unrestrained nature are admirable. She acted as a true heroine in coming to my aid. I’m grateful—how could I hold a grudge?”
Hearing herself praised as a heroine, Jiang Yaomeng’s cheeks flushed briefly. Sticking her tongue out at her brother, she quipped, “See, big brother? He called me a heroine!”
Jiang Haoyu ignored her antics, shaking his head.
“You’re too kind, sir. The Wei family is but a vassal of the Jiang family. My sister acted to uphold our family’s reputation, not out of any particular heroism. I deeply regret the trouble caused to you.”
Jiang Yaomeng bit her lip, hesitating. She wanted to explain that her intervention wasn’t purely for family honor but also because she genuinely wanted to meet this intriguing young man. Yet she feared her directness might scare him away.
“I’ve long heard of the Jiang family’s divine heir—a paragon of virtue and grace. Meeting you today, I see the rumors were not exaggerated,” the young man said politely.
“Ha! Sir, you flatter me. May I know your name?” Jiang Haoyu asked warmly.
The young man hesitated briefly before cupping his hands in a respectful gesture.
“I am Qin Wan. A pleasure to meet you, Divine Son Jiang.”
‘Qin Wan?’
Jiang Yaomeng repeated the name silently, her eyes sparkling with admiration.
“What a beautiful name,” she thought.
“I see. Qin Wan, an excellent name indeed. What brings you to White Emperor City, Brother Qin?” Jiang Haoyu asked, his gaze sharp yet kind.
Qin Wan replied honestly:
“To be frank, I heard about the upcoming Heaven’s Chosen Gathering and assumed the city would be full of delectable food. That’s why I came.”
Jiang Yaomeng’s admiration for Qin Wan grew.
Most people, when faced with her brother, would have fawned and flattered, claiming they came to admire the gathering and Jiang Haoyu himself. But Qin Wan was different—unapologetically forthright and true to his desires.
“Brother Qin, since you love good food, do you know where the best restaurant in White Emperor City is?” Jiang Yaomeng asked, her eyes bright.
Hearing her address the young man as “Brother Qin,” Jiang Haoyu’s expression froze briefly. He glanced at his sister, who was staring at Qin Wan with an unmistakable look of admiration.
Was she already smitten? And Qin Wan seemed entirely oblivious!
“I’m not sure,” Qin Wan admitted. “I’ve only just arrived and don’t know my way around. I’d be grateful if you could tell me.”
“Brother Qin, the finest restaurant here is none other than this very Ascending Heaven Tower!” Jiang Haoyu interjected with a smile. Turning to his sister, he added, “Yaomeng, please instruct the manager to prepare the best dishes and wines for our guest. We must properly apologize for the earlier commotion.”
“This… seems a bit much,” Qin Wan said, caught off guard.
“Not at all, Brother Qin. After what happened, how could we not extend proper hospitality?” Jiang Yaomeng chimed in enthusiastically.
“Then I shall accept your generosity,” Qin Wan said, smiling.
“Brother Qin, there’s no need to be so formal! Big brother, you entertain Brother Qin—I’ll go speak to the manager!”
Jiang Yaomeng gave her brother a playful wink before bounding down the stairs.
‘Already bossing me around…’ Jiang Haoyu sighed inwardly, turning to Qin Wan.
“Brother Qin, I feel a strong connection with you. If you don’t mind, shall we become sworn brothers?”
Qin Wan: “…”
Back at Purple Cloud Peak
Xu Yang had been enjoying a peaceful moment with Ji Hongluan when a fellow peak master came to report an issue. Reluctantly, he left and returned to his hall.
On his way, he pondered which disciple to bring to the Heaven’s Chosen Gathering.
Taking all of them seemed unnecessary—his presence alone should suffice to honor Jiang Haoyu.
First, he dismissed Xue Jinli. She spent most of her time slacking off, and despite possessing her unique constitution, her cultivation progress was slow.
Next, he ruled out Ruan Yuer. She had just returned from an arduous training expedition, and sending her to another event so soon felt excessive.
That left three options: Xuan’er, Qing’er, and Beifeng.
“Xuan’er is still in seclusion, breaking through from the Core Formation realm. She probably won’t be able to join me,” Xu Yang mused.
As if in response, a piercing sword cry echoed through the air.
He looked up to see two radiant beams—one purple, one azure—intertwining in the sky, exuding a boundless sword aura. The clouds parted as waves of energy rippled outward, causing the heavens themselves to tremble.
“Xuan’er has reached the Nascent Soul realm?!”
Xu Yang’s heart swelled with pride. Without hesitation, he vanished from the hall, heading toward the source of the sword cry.
