“It’s a good thing, Ah Yu, that you didn’t send her today; otherwise, who knows what might have happened? Just thinking about it makes my heart race — I can’t even eat.”
Qin Yu looked at his mother who suddenly appeared helplessly.
“Mom…”
Su Qiao glanced at him with a hint of disdain. His conflicted expression was genuinely repulsive.
Every time his mother made things difficult for her, he always had that same look.
Only after her clone lowered her head in sadness under a barrage of insults would he finally step forward to protect her, arguing with his parents to defend her.
After this happened so many times, Su Qiao slowly came to rely on him as her sole support, her only salvation. Her infatuation with him deepened.
In Su Qiao’s mind, he became the only person in the world, aside from her deceased parents, who treated her well.
Ha, what a skillful act.
Su Qiao’s face was emotionless as she half-closed her eyes.
“Mrs. Qin, are you suggesting that every car accident survivor owes their life to sheer toughness?”
She was alive and well because she was physically capable, not because of some mystical resilience.
Mrs. Qin, taken aback by her retort, almost choked in anger.
She raised her voice, uncaring that they were in a hospital. Her words were loud enough to echo down the corridor.
“Ah Yu, just look at her — look at this attitude! People might think I’ve done something terrible to her! I’ve said it before: your eight characters are incompatible with hers, but you just wouldn’t listen. You treat her like some kind of treasure!”
Su Qiao raised her head and asked seriously.
“Are you jealous?”
“What?”
Mrs. Qin was momentarily thrown off.
Su Qiao blinked; her gaze was resolute.
“I get it now. You’re jealous that I have such a devoted and protective man.”
That was why she was always strutting around like an enraged hen, crowing incessantly.
“You… you…”
Mrs. Qin was utterly stunned by her words.
She pointed at Su Qiao, then at herself, so infuriated she was nearly speechless.
“I, the legitimate matriarch of the Qin family, jealous of you, an orphan with no parents?”
Compared to Mrs. Qin’s hysterics, Su Qiao remained extraordinarily composed.
“Then why do you always act like a jealous wife?”
Pausing briefly, she added in a calm and polite tone.
“You and he share a blood relationship. According to the law and basic ethics, there’s no way you could ever be together.”
Don’t think that just because she’d been isolated for years without much education or social exposure, she didn’t understand this.
[Host, you’re amazing!]
444 gave her a thumbs-up.
Who would have thought its host, despite seeming a bit dazed and blunt, could be so sharp-tongued?
Just a few words were enough to almost make Mrs. Qin cough up blood.
Su Qiao blinked.
‘I was just stating the facts. She clearly is jealous, and mothers and sons can’t be together.’
Mrs. Qin was now so furious that she couldn’t form coherent words. Her whole body trembled.
“You… you…?”
Qin Yu shot a quick glance at Su Qiao, feeling something strange.
Normally, at times like this, she’d look at him sadly and expectantly, waiting for him to defend her, not go head-to-head with his mother.
What was going on today?
Was it because of the car accident?
Qin Yu mulled it over for a while and finally decided it was probably because she’d been shaken up by the accident.
“Mom, don’t blame Qiao Qiao. She just went through a car accident and is a little shaken. Her emotions are unstable.”
“Qin Yu, are you even my son anymore?”
Mrs. Qin, already livid, exploded when she saw her son once again defending that woman.
Her voice grew so loud it almost shook the ceiling.
Qin Yu pleaded.
“Mom!”
Mrs. Qin threw her handbag onto the sofa in a fit of rage and plopped down angrily.
“I don’t care. This time, you must break up with her. If not, don’t call me <Mom> again!”
