Phoenix Power: The True Colors of the Empress - Chapter 9. Your Name.
Cang Ling Ye emerged from the cave and took in the breathtaking beauty of the Dark Moon forest, feeling as though he had stepped into paradise. The enchanting atmosphere infused his heart with a newfound warmth.
Turning to see the wolf girl’s joyful smile, he was struck by how her beauty seemed to glow even brighter in the sunlight, touching him deeply.
Uncertain of where the wolf girl usually found food, Cang Ling Ye recalled her generosity in sharing fruits with him and felt a strong urge to return the kindness. Most of all, he felt a strong desire to nurture and protect this charming girl even more.
After Cang Ling Ye emerged, they sat together on the grass for a while, enjoying a peaceful moment in each other’s company. Eventually, he gently took the wolf girl’s hand and guided her into the forest to look for food.
Cang Ling Ye had been training hard since he was young. Every day, he would wake up in the wee hours of the morning and train in the courtyard until noon. Then he would practice calligraphy and homework so he could be considered a military strategist.
Cang Ling Ye’s worries about finding food in the forest dissolved when he stumbled upon trees and bushes abundant with fruits and berries, making his task of gathering them effortless.
Excitedly, he pointed out the fruits on a nearby tree, and the wolf girl’s eyes brightened with delight as she nodded happily in agreement.
Cang Ling Ye noticed the wolf girl’s reaction and smiled. Using his qinggong skills, he flew up to pluck some fruits from the trees before gracefully descending back down.
The wolf girl’s face was full of joy and excitement when Cang Ling Ye gently gave her the fruits. Her eyes revealed joy that only a young child would have.
Unfortunately, the two of them couldn’t communicate normally. The wolf girl could only whimper and whine, so they could only use hand gestures to express their thoughts.
After Cang Ling Ye returned, the two of them sat side by side on the grass, gazing at the lake in front. Wolves and other animals occasionally ran by as if they wanted to have a look at a new visitor.
It felt like heaven on earth.
“Why don’t I give you a name? I’ll teach you how to speak, then we can talk normally.” Cang Ling Ye sat on the grass, feeling content. However, the wolf girl’s inability to speak troubled him, prompting him to consider teaching her human speech.
In doing so, they could have more engaging conversations!
Cang Ling Ye gestured towards his mouth and then towards the wolf girl’s mouth, attempting to convey a message with a mix of embarrassment and nervousness.
“Woo.”
The wolf girl appeared to understand, but Cang Ling Ye was unsure about it. Nevertheless, he hoped she could.
Cang Ling Ye pondered for a moment, gazing up at the sky. His eyes wandered around, searching for inspiration.
He noticed that fog started to clear up in the sunlight.
Cang Ling Ye had come up with a name!
“Wu ‘er *, what do you think of Wu’ er?” Cang Ling Ye suggested. Since the wolf girl could only speak like a wolf, why not call her Wu ‘er? This would make it easier for the wolf girl to learn.
- It means Misty.
Cang Ling Ye pointed at the wolf girl and said, “You shall be Wu ‘er.” His eyes were gentle, with a hint of anticipation. He wondered if the wolf girl would accept this name.
“Wu …” The wolf girl appeared to understand Cang Ling Ye’s message, but her speech was unclear. She pointed at herself and uttered, “Wu….” Although she wanted to say the words “Wu’ er,” she still made a sound like a wolf.
Cang Ling Ye recognized the wolf girl’s efforts and nodded gently. He pointed at her and repeated, “Wu ‘er, you are Wu’ er!”
The wolf girl made the same sounds. “Wu … wu …”, but she could not say the word ‘Wu ‘er’.
Still she was very happy, knowing that Cang Ling Ye had given her the name.
Cang Ling Ye was relieved to see the wolf girl’s happy expression, revealing her acceptance of the name.
Cang Ling Ye’s main goal was to teach the wolf girl to say her name with patience and determination.
It was a strange twist of fate. They had never spoken to each other before, but there was an undeniable mutual attraction between them. They couldn’t explain it, but they both felt drawn to each other.
Maybe it was because two lonely hearts found solace in each other, finally thawing the ice that had encased them for so long.
The wolf girl, now known as Wu’er, tried hard to pronounce her name properly, but she struggled with it.
It was the first time she had ever interacted with a human, and it felt nice.
Cang Ling Ye repeated Wu’er’s name multiple times, and she practiced with him tirelessly. Due to her long isolation from the world, Wu’er’s speaking skills were nearly nonexistent, so she had to work extra hard.
“Wu’er…” She finally managed to stammer out these two words.
That was her name, and her pronunciation was slowly but surely getting closer to what Cang Ling Ye had taught her.
Witnessing Wu’er’s progress, Cang Ling Ye couldn’t suppress the warm, delighted smile spreading across his face. He felt genuine happiness for Wu’er deep within his heart.
After practicing tirelessly, it finally clicked. Wu’er could finally pronounce her name.
The wolf girl’s face lit up with happiness. The anxious expression that had been there gradually gave way to a joyful smile.
“Wu ‘er!” After countless repetitions and with Cang Ling Ye’s patient guidance, the wolf girl could finally say her name fluently.
From now on, Wu’er would be her name. The wolf girl was overjoyed. Sitting beside Cang Ling Ye, she gazed at his face and repeated her name, enjoying the sound.
She was as delighted as a child, her smile radiant under the warm sunlight.
