Phoenix Power: The True Colors of the Empress - Chapter 3. Heaven's Blessing
It all began when Imperial Consort Chen gave birth to the fourth prince, Cang Ling Ye.
“Your Majesty, I bear good news. Both Imperial Consort Chen and Imperial Consort Shu have delivered baby boys. You are now a father to two more imperial sons!” the eunuch who brought this news was very emotional. He ran to Emperor Cang Qian’s bedroom to proclaim it excitedly.
“Good! Good! This type of happy occasion is really the heaven’s blessing!” said Emperor Cang Qian upon receiving the wonderful news, which instantly filled him with immense joy. Quickly, he rushed towards the chambers of his two consorts.
That night, sleep eluded Emperor Cang Qian. He spent the hours restlessly sitting on the couch, anxiously waiting for news.
Imperial Consort Chen and Imperial Consort Shu both had fetal movements at the same time. The eunuchs informed that both women would deliver their babies tonight.
This happy occasion was unique in the history of the Cang Qian Empire. But Emperor Cang Qian was quite occupied and couldn’t be beside the two Imperial Consorts during childbirth, though he wished to do so.
He had no choice but to stay in his bedchamber due to the influence of people around him, waiting on news from both Imperial Consorts.
“Imperial Consort Chen was the one who gave birth to the fourth prince. Shortly after, Imperial Consort Shu also delivered the fifth prince. Both princes are in good health and have been nursed already. Both mothers are now safe and sound!” the head eunuch, who was always at Emperor Cang Qian’s side, quickly rushed behind him, gasping for breath as he attempted to win his favor. He was hopeful that Emperor Cang Qian would reward him during his period of happiness so that he would avoid any mistreatment. It was tiring to constantly run back and forth between two Imperial Consorts’ residences all evening long.
“Let’s go see Imperial Consort Chen and then proceed to Imperial Consort Shu’s residence. It’s fortunate that they’re both safe. I want to have a look at the two imperial sons!” Emperor Cang Qian was thrilled, like a child.
His favorite Imperial Consorts were Chen and Shu, whom he often showered with affection. Simultaneously, they both delivered two male heirs for Emperor Cang Qian.
His joy was so immense that it could not be expressed.
Emperor Cang Qian hurriedly reached Imperial Consort Chen’s palace.
Under the moonlight, the palace looked peaceful and gentle. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by the rumbling of thunder.
Emperor Cang Qian excused the palace maids and eunuchs from bowing and went directly to the bedchamber, where Imperial Consort Chen rested. He walked straight to her bedside and held her hand tightly. She was so tired, as she was on the verge of death.
“How is it? Do you feel better? I want to thank you. You’ve given me a son!” Emperor Cang Qian held Imperial Consort Chen’s hand tightly, his face lit with excitement.
“I’m already very happy to have a child with His Majesty. I can die without regrets now!” Imperial Consort Chen, though struggling, spoke gently to Emperor Cang Qian. But a trace of panic flashed through her eyes.
“I won’t allow you to say such things on such a joyous day. When the child is one month old, I’ll confer on you the title of Noble Consort and give you the dignity you deserve. Your body is weak now, so rest well!”
At this time, the wet nurse brought over the sleeping fourth prince to show him to Emperor Cang Qian. Worried he might not be able to hold such a young child, Emperor Cang Qian gazed at the sleeping baby in the wet nurse’s arms. His eyes were filled with fondness as he gently teased the child, careful not to wake him.
“Your Majesty, I haven’t even seen this child yet. May Your Majesty personally give him a name!” Imperial Consort Chen asked, her eyes showing some anxiety. It was clear she was hiding other worries.
“Alright, since he was born at night and there was a sudden flash of lightning, why don’t we call him Cang Ling Ye? What do you think?” Emperor Cang Qian thought for a moment before giving the fourth prince this name.
“Cang Ling Ye. This Imperial Consort thanks Your Majesty for giving the fourth prince a name!” Imperial Consort Chen seemed to like the name very much. Despite her tiredness, she managed an excited smile as she spoke to Emperor Cang Qian.
“It’s good that you like it. You must be tired, so rest well today. I’ll come see you and our son tomorrow.” Seeing how exhausted Imperial Consort Chen was, Emperor Cang Qian decided to let her rest, knowing he still had to visit Imperial Consort Shu.
“This Imperial Consort respectfully sends Your Majesty off!” Imperial Consort Chen said, a sense of relief washing over her. Her eyes no longer held the same nervousness as before.
After Emperor Cang Qian rewarded Imperial Consort Chen’s palace staff for their service, he set off for Imperial Consort Shu’s palace. Imperial Consort Shu had also given birth to a prince that night!
Once Emperor Cang Qian had left, a figure emerged from behind the screen in Imperial Consort Chen’s bedroom.
It was General Qin Yuan!
In fact, General Qin Yuan and Imperial Consort Chen shared a secret. They were both assassins placed by the Blood Clothed Tower within the Cang Qian Imperial Palace. Their master had sent them there to gather information for the Blood Clothed Tower.
The Blood Clothed Tower was the world’s top assassin organization. They had infiltrated almost every corner of every country, with the goal of unifying Jianghu and eventually moving from the shadows into the open.
Imperial Consort Chen and Qin Yuan shared another bond. They had once been lovers. Because of Imperial Consort Chen’s beauty, their master arranged for her to enter the Cang Qian Imperial Palace.
Her beauty made her Emperor Cang Qian’s favorite Imperial Consort.
Recently, Qin Yuan managed to sneak into the Cang Qian Imperial Palace. His goal was to stay by Imperial Consort Chen’s side and protect her. However, upon his arrival, he discovered that Imperial Consort Chen was pregnant with Emperor Cang Qian’s child.
Qin Yuan, suffering in silence, could only swallow his anger and remain by Imperial Consort Chen’s side. Despite their love, they could only endure this difficult situation together.
Tonight, they received alarming news: someone had discovered Imperial Consort Chen’s true background. It was likely an unfavored concubine, jealous of Imperial Consort Chen’s favor, who conducted a secret investigation outside the palace.
Upon hearing this news, Imperial Consort Chen was shocked and didn’t know how to handle it. The fear caused her to give birth to the fourth prince prematurely.
When she saw Emperor Cang Qian’s appearance just now, he probably didn’t know about this matter yet. However, he would find out sooner or later, so Imperial Consort Chen could only think of a solution as soon as possible.
Imperial Consort Chen was now most worried about the fourth prince, who had just been born. Although she was only submissive to Emperor Cang Qian on the surface, she also knew Emperor Cang Qian’s nature.
She didn’t want to implicate her child because of her own affairs.
