Little Family Treasure of the Apocalyptic Boss - Ch 48
Chapter 48: Cattle and Sheep
The manager of the livestock store in the dimensional mall welcomed Ye Ze, the returning customer, without surprise. After enthusiastically selling 20 young cattle and sheep, he bid farewell to Ye Ze and the little snake sub-beast, waving cheerfully. “Welcome back next time!”
Ye Ze’s eye twitched as he stared at the “cattle and sheep” that were still about half the height of the little snake sub-beast. He contemplated switching to a shop with gentler livestock next time, considering their thick horns and fierce gaze.
He had originally intended to purchase young animals, thinking that raising them from infancy would be safer and more familiar. However, a certain store manager, oblivious to Ye Ze’s intentions, aggressively promoted the cattle and sheep, ultimately leading to Ye Ze succumbing to the pleading eyes of the little snake sub-beast and paying for the purchase with a begrudging glare at the smiling manager.
“After winter, the young cattle and sheep will be mature and can start having babies. And those babies can grow up and have more babies… There will be lots of little calves and lambs!” The little snake sub-beast, completely unaware of Ye Ze’s concerns, happily imagined the future scene of herds of cattle and sheep.
With 20 cattle and sheep, there would be plenty to take care of. Ye Ze sighed inwardly, deciding to let the little snake sub-beast enjoy his excitement. After all, he didn’t hold much hope of actually consuming this batch of cattle and sheep, especially considering the cautionary tale of the geese.
With this in mind, as soon as they left the dimensional mall, Ye Ze picked up two geese, along with a groundhog and the big penguin, instructing the little snake sub-beast to be extremely vigilant with the new arrivals and ensure they didn’t harm him.
The geese, having served as companions and guards before, were now excited to return to their usual duties, flapping their wings enthusiastically and making solemn promises.
The groundhog and the big penguin gave him strange looks but followed suit with perfunctory acknowledgments.
Satisfied, Ye Ze nodded.
The next morning, Ye Ze, who was attempting to indulge in a lazy morning in his affluent lifestyle, was once again pulled out of bed by the little snake sub-beast. Before him, neatly arranged were his clothes for the day, and even breakfast had been transferred from the maid to the little snake sub-beast’s hands, delicately arranged on the nearby table.
“Ye Zi, wake up! Today, we need to inspect the planting situation in the fields and then go deep into the grasslands to bring back the young cattle and sheep. You can’t sleep in anymore!”
With a gentle shake, Ye Ze, still half asleep, sat up and looked at the energetic little snake sub-beast, feeling both amused and exasperated.
“Nuo Nuo, if you could be this proactive in taking care of yourself next time, I’d be very happy.”
Ye Ze rolled out of bed, grabbed the little snake sub-beast’s wrist, pulled him close, and rubbed his head vigorously with his palm.
Then calmly, he took off his pajamas in front of the little snake sub-beast and put on his clothes.
The little snake sub-beast looked at the sturdy and powerful lines of the beastman’s back, and his already flushed face turned even redder.
“Ye Zi. Looks good!”
The little snake sub-beast shyly covered his eyes with his hand, but couldn’t help but peek through his fingers.
“Um. Nuo Nuo is naughty.”
The round tip of his tail thought it was hidden as it tapped on the carpet. When Ye Ze finished putting on his shirt and reached for his shorts, his cheeks blushed completely as he covered his face.
Can’t look, can’t look. Can’t look anymore!
Ye Ze, with his back to the little snake sub-beast, smirked and struggled to contain his laughter, not letting it escape his lips.
Once the gaze was lost, his movements became fluent, and he quickly tidied up. He reached out and patted the little snake’s shoulder. “Nuo Nuo, come and eat.”
“Um. Um!” The little snake sub-beast shook his head, trying to push out the images that kept playing in his mind, making an effort to be a modest and reserved young sub-beast, following Ye Ze’s footsteps. “I’m coming!”
Ye Ze turned his head slightly. Unable to contain his amusement, he laughed.
After breakfast, Ye Ze and the little snake sub-beast boarded the beast cart prepared by Cang Jiao and headed slowly towards the fields outside the city.
Thanks to the astonishing display at the opening ceremony, the lord of the city sent a generous gift that day.
Ye Ze accepted it.
Both of them knew that this was a door-opening brick called a congratulatory gift but actually an apology.
By accepting it, past grievances were wiped clean. And afterward, it was for the sake of their respective interests and close cooperation.
Thanks to the city lord’s green light, the arable land around Little Dragon City increased several times over. After being planned and laid out by Ye Ze, it became a truly comprehensive large farm. Various resource circulations also became smoother and simpler under the city lord’s intentional mediation.
Everything was thriving.
“Wow! The changes are so big!” The little snake sub-beast leaned against the window, looking at the neatly arranged fields on both sides of the concrete road, and exclaimed in amazement.
Ye Ze leaned against him, enveloping the little snake sub-beast in his embrace. As he looked at the bustling scenes on either side of the road, a hint of surprise flickered in his eyes.
He had indeed heard reports from Cang Jiao about the progress of the farm, but the level of shock he experienced seeing it firsthand far exceeded his imagination.
Under the vigorous labor of the indigenous people of the wilderness world, vast stretches of land were cleared in just a few days. Now, even more than half of the fields had been planted.
The renovated black soil contrasted sharply with the barren grasslands on the periphery and the snowy peaks in the distance.
It was an unprecedented vitality.
Every indigenous person busy in the winter wore happy and contented smiles on their faces as they carefully placed seeds in the pits according to their training methods.
It seemed as if one could envision the bountiful harvest when the seeds bore full fruits, and everyone radiated the glow of hope.
Simple.
Sincere.
Ye Ze snapped out of his reverie and glanced at the little snake sub-beast.
In the little snake sub-beast’s eyes shone a light similar to his own but even brighter. With his chin resting on the back of his hand against the window sill, he happily hummed a tune.
Ye Ze recognized the melody.
The little snake sub-beast had explained to him that it was a hymn sung by the indigenous people to celebrate the bountiful harvest of the hunt. It was a prayer to the beast god for smooth weather and a happy and fulfilling life.
Ye Ze was not a beast god.
But at this moment, he suddenly felt a gentle weight, not burdensome but comforting, settling on his shoulders.
The little snake sub-beast had found the direction of his new life.
What about him?
Had he found the goal of his brand new life?
Ye Ze suddenly bent down, enveloping the little snake sub-beast completely. He pressed his cheek against his soft head and affectionately rubbed against him.
Emotionally, the little snake sub-beast was his only one.
As the strongest in the eyes of the little snake sub-beast, he should also have a new outlook on his career.
“Ye Zi?”
“Yes?”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” With a smile, he kissed the worried eyes of the little snake sub-beast. “I just thought of something interesting. In the future, I’ll take Nuo Nuo with me to see everything, just like today.”
All the best and most magnificent things.
They should all be seen through these beautiful golden eyes.
Forehead to forehead.
Eye to eye.
Today would be another happy and beautiful day.
Was he the only one targeted by the animals in the end?
The versatile wood-elemental ability user raised his eyebrows somewhat discontentedly. Watching the cattle and sheep, who had been exceptionally obedient in front of the little snake sub-beast, attempt to butt him with their horns, he suddenly understood the disdainful glances of the groundhog and the big penguin from yesterday.
Did snakes in the other world attract animals like this?
Or was the little snake sub-beast just a special case?
Ye Ze was pushed to the periphery by the twenty strong and robust cattle and sheep, speechless yet amused.
Out of consideration for the little snake sub-beast, he decided not to argue with these reserve provisions.
“Good. Good.” The little snake sub-beast patted the head of the black cow in front of him, guiding it to stand behind the white cow. “Hua Hua, you stay here, Hei Hei, you stay here… Line up properly, and remember to do this when we go home in the future.”
“Moo—.” The black cow raised its head and rubbed its nose against the palm of the little snake sub-beast’s hand. It obediently walked behind its companion and stood still.
In this way, two rows of neatly arranged and majestic cattle and sheep were soon formed.
The little snake sub-beast smiled with joy, his eyes curving into crescents. Returning from the back row to the forefront, he counted, “One, two, three… twenty!”
None of them got lost! They could go home now!
The little snake sub-beast turned to look at Ye Ze, who had been ignored for quite a while. “Ye Zi, we can go back now!”
Suddenly becoming a cattle and sheep transporter, Ye Ze felt like he had made another mistake.
He had only thought that with the little snake sub-beast not needing to go to the store, he wouldn’t have to worry about being the barbecue chef. But he hadn’t anticipated that with the little snake sub-beast’s dedication, even if it was herding cattle and sheep, he would do it seriously, leaving him no time to slack off together.
His love life was really miserable.
Ye Ze unwillingly stepped forward and leaned against the little snake sub-beast, looking aggrieved. “Nuo Nuo, am I more important, or are the cows and sheep more important?”
“Of course, Ye Zi is the most important!” The little snake sub-beast didn’t hesitate to give an affirmative answer, giving him a strange look.
On the left, it said “perplexed”, and on the right, it said “bewildered innocence”.
The horizontal inscriptions were likely “What’s Ye Zi up to today.”
The large dog, which extended various contents, paused for a second. It suddenly buried its head in the little snake sub-beast’s neck and rubbed vigorously, asserting its dominance.
The jealousy was almost drowning the entire Little Dragon City.
Ming Ya gritted his teeth at the sourness and couldn’t help but complain inwardly.
Upon hearing that Ye Ze and the little snake sub-beast, two influential figures, were bringing back a large number of live game to the city, and that the game were all species they had never seen before, Ming Ya and Ling Jue rushed to the scene to gather information, only to see the scene of the big dog acting spoiled and the extremely dazzling eyes.
The two sub-beast people had quite a bit to say in their hearts.
However, besides being caught off guard, they didn’t feel any sense of discordance about Ye Ze’s behavior at all.
—It’s like their judgmental thinking is completely messed up due to being persecuted.
Ming Ya rubbed his eyes. He had so much to say that he couldn’t even finish venting.
Twenty cattle and sheep weren’t many, but they definitely weren’t few either.
In preparation for today, Ye Ze had set up a temporary livestock area in the courtyard. Using the cleaner imported from the dimensional mall, he wasn’t worried about hygiene issues. It also greatly facilitated the little snake sub-beast’s daily grazing activities.
The little snake sub-beast greeted the cattle and sheep into the overnight pen, much to the surprise of Ming Ya, who couldn’t believe his eyes. The seemingly unruly cattle and sheep had suddenly transformed into exemplary students, walking in orderly lines into the pen.
So the rumors outside were true!
There really were wild beasts with a bad temper that could be tamed into obedient cubs! And they were cubs that ordinary sub-beast people could manage!
Ming Ya was completely dumbfounded.
“Ga! Ga ga!” Equally dumbfounded were the geese.
Excitedly approaching to assist the little snake sub-beast, the geese found that the work had already ended before they arrived. The big geese were deeply immersed in the horror of being laid off: they hadn’t even started their job yet! Were they going to be unemployed again?!
