Light Barrier - Chapter 98: Mad Dogs
Gu Shen was not drunk.
From beginning to end, he was sober.
Thus, he heard every word uttered by the group of people at the other end of the alley from the moment they appeared to the moment they stopped.
Judging from the luxurious attire of the man at the center of the group, he was definitely not someone who lived in Old Town. He must be a big shot who lived comfortably in the core of Dadu because his every word and expression revealed contempt, belittlement, and disdain for those at the bottom.
But it wasn’t the first time Gu Shen had seen this kind of person.
What did this… humiliation, insult, and ridicule count as?
If he cared, then everything mattered.
But Gu Shen had never cared. He didn’t have the time, energy, or capital to care.
So he just treated it as someone spouting nonsense in his ear, which would automatically dissipate with the wind.
He patted Crow on the back and said calmly, “Let’s go.”
“Wait…” Song Ci, wearing the thick motorcycle helmet, finally managed to catch his breath. The alcohol spread throughout his body and rushed to the top of his head, making him dizzy. He held onto the wall and barely straightened up. “What did that asshole just say? Did he insult us?”
Crow’s loud and coarse voice immediately attracted the attention of the people at the other end of the alley.
“…” The old cowboy narrowed his eyes and exhaled a puff of smoke.
Back in the abandoned factory, he had been suppressed by higher-level transcendental power, making him simmer with anger. Now, he saw a drunk speak rudely to him…
He silently hoisted his shotgun and walked toward the drunk pair.
Zhao Qi smiled, not stopping him.
He wasn’t in a hurry to leave now. He crossed his arms and leaned leisurely against the wall with a faint smile on his face, quietly waiting for the upcoming show to unfold… Cleaning up the trash and beating wild dogs, such matters were beneath him because they would dirty his hands.
Gu Shen frowned while calmly looking at the figure gradually approaching from the other side of the alley.
As expected of Dadu, there were all kinds of people. This cowboy, with a pipe in his mouth, made no effort to conceal the large shotgun slung over his shoulder. The sight of the big gun gave Gu Shen a strong sense of oppression, and the Blazing Fire even had the urge to emerge from between his eyebrows.
Trouble was coming.
“Tsk tsk… A transcendent…”
Despite his drunkenness, Crow’s battle instincts remained sharp. He was just a rough man deep in his bones. Even though he was drunk, he would never forget his instincts for fighting.
The cowboy frowned. In his opinion, the image of him carrying a shotgun should be enough to intimidate most drunks.
He believed that when the barrel of his gun was pressed against someone’s head, even the drunkest person would instantly sober up.
He raised his gun.
The silent barrel pressed against the hard motorcycle helmet.
“Heh… Buddy, don’t point that thing at me.”
Unexpectedly, even with the shotgun pressed against his head, the drunk was still calm. Instead, he reminded in a friendly voice, “The East Continent Federation has clear laws that good citizens are not allowed to carry firearms on the streets.”
The cowboy replied coldly, “Do I look like a good citizen to you?”
“Hmm… good point.” Crow reached out to grab the gun barrel and slowly moved it to the side. He said lazily, “This is loaded with 12-gauge red silver bullets, right? Don’t misfire. I’m not joking with you… It could be fatal.”
The cowboy was stunned.
The moment Crow’s fingers touched the barrel, an immense pressure spread inch by inch from the gun to his entire body.
It was as though a pair of large hands were pressing down on his shoulders, and the heavy pressure made him feel like he was sinking into a swamp. His finger on the trigger couldn’t even move a millimeter… No, not only was he unable to pull the trigger, but he even felt that breathing became difficult.
Damn it! He looked at the man in front of him in horror, but all he could see was the pair of drunken but smiling eyes under the motorcycle helmet.
He was a transcendent… and an extremely powerful one at that!
In the eyes of the cowboy’s companions in the alley, there was nothing abnormal about his actions.
The shotgun was already pressed against the drunk’s head. What could be abnormal about that?
Crow extended out a shaking finger and pointed at the man surrounded in the distance. It was indeed not good to drink too much. The man’s image was blurry in his eyes, and he wasn’t even sure if he was pointing at him correctly.
Song Ci mumbled indistinctly, “Do you remember what I just said? That guy must be a big shot. Punching his face will definitely be very satisfying.”
Gu Shen looked at him with a complex expression.
“Wanna hit him?” Crow suggested slyly with a grin. “The kind where we hit him and run away.”
Crow had an inexplicable charm. He would run around Old Town in flip-flops like an ostrich, and he would use his fists to smash the teeth of anyone who slandered him.
He lived in the orderly Dadu, yet everything he did deviated from the rules and regulations.
Since he couldn’t change this environment, he might as well use his actions to give the people at the top of Dadu’s pyramid a big middle finger.
A punch to the face of a big shot wouldn’t just break a few teeth.
It would break the lofty rules.
Gu Shen was silent for a moment. When the old cowboy walked over, perhaps less than ten steps away, he asked himself a question.
Had there ever been a moment when he had the same impulse as Crow, wanting to smash his fist into the face of a deeply hated big shot?
Perhaps Lion Awakens wasn’t useless.
At least at this moment, Gu Shen felt as if he had opened a pair of eyes that had never been opened before. His blood became hot, boiling, and it was as though a lion had awakened within him.
Therefore, the young man asked softly, “Can we win?”
Crow responded cheerfully, “Of course.”
Gu Shen asked again, “Can you escape?”
Crow laughed heartily. “Of course!”
“In that case…” Gu Shen admitted honestly, “I want to give it a try.”
The moment he finished speaking.
Crow suddenly squatted down and punched the cowboy’s chin. At the same time, the trigger of the shotgun was barely pulled. A loud bang shattered the silence of the night, and the large-caliber bullet roaring out of the barrel deviated from its original trajectory. It whizzed past Song Ci’s motorcycle helmet and directly smashed the street light beside the alley. Shards of the light fixture were sent flying through the air as the cowboy flew up like a sandbag. Blood and teeth spewed out, raining down alongside the shattered shards.
This shocking scene stunned Zhao Qi and the accompanying transcendents.
“Get on.”
Crow straddled the motorcycle and revved the engine. The off-road tires howled angrily against the ground like a wild stallion about to break free. Gu Shen reacted with lightning speed. The moment Crow spoke, he flipped over and sat on the back seat. Amidst the broken fragments, the front half of the powerful red motorcycle raised high and charged toward the small wall at the other end of the alley.
“Quick, protect—” Zhao Qi started speaking.
But before the word ‘me’ could leave his lips…
There was only an enormous, looming shadow in front of him.
It was a heavy motorcycle that occupied nearly all of Zhao Qi’s vision.
Everything happened too quickly. No one could have imagined that a drunk could plan such a precise course of action with a clear direction. Someone drew a saber from his waist and prepared to fight back. But the next moment, he was sent flying by a kick from the drunk on the motorcycle. The force of this kick was even greater than the shotgun’s red silver bullet. The entire wall on one side of the alley collapsed, and the person who drew the saber lost consciousness, half of his body embedded in the broken wall.
Recalling what had happened to the cowboy earlier, everyone was stunned. Young Master Zhao had said that this drunk was a wild dog, but now it seemed that he was an out-and-out mad dog.
Thus, a funny and ironic scene unfolded.
None of the ‘loyal’ guards accompanying Young Master Zhao in Old Town at night dared to risk their lives to stop the motorcycle in the face of the imminent danger. The thundering motorcycle advanced on a warpath easily.
Figures were sent flying into the air.
In the narrow alley confrontation, bravery won the day. Hesitation and retreating meant forfeiting victory!
Finally, only the lonely and helpless Zhao Qi remained. He watched in anger, fear, and dread as the massive black shadow pressed forward…
A fist finally appeared in front of him.
To his relief, it wasn’t the fist of the drunk, the mad dog, but the fist of the young man in the back seat of the motorcycle… the one whose face radiated innocence, kindness, and eagerness to prove himself.
Some things were irresistible, so people could only choose to accept them…
This young man’s fist didn’t look very big, so it shouldn’t hurt that much, right?
Boom!
Zhao Qi felt as though a heavy hammer had smashed his cheek, forcibly ejecting all his consciousness out of his body. He could feel all the bones in his body trembling and his facial muscles spasming.
The fist wasn’t big.
But it was hard.
He seemed to be flying through the air, or at least his feet were off the ground.
He flew up lightly.
Then he fell heavily.
The noisy, long alley welcomed a prolonged silence amidst the last roar of the throttle. Under the angry curses of the residents of Old Town, the two mad dogs raced away in a cloud of dust.
“How do you feel?!” Song Ci stepped on the accelerator and swayed his body. He whistled happily, celebrating their victory.
Old Town was already far behind. Its broken alley lights and aged, mottled walls disappeared into the darkness of the night. The motorcycle sped through the desolate outskirts, where it was so silent that it felt like Heaven.
The young man in the back seat remained silent for a long time.
Gu Shen only looked at his fist silently. There were some bloodstains on it—not his but that rich young master’s.
He used the Blazing Fire to wrap his fist.
Before throwing the punch, he had already considered the trouble it might cause. He had used the Blazing Fire to burn away any biological traces left at the scene—Crow’s vomit and any fingerprints inadvertently left behind.
They punched, ran away, and disappeared.
“You’re right.” Gu Shen exhaled softly and smiled. “Beating up the privileged does feel very satisfying.”
