I've Been Possessed, But What If I Get Pregnant First? - C41
#41
“Taebeom!”
I climbed the stairs two at a time and stopped in front of Taebeom.
Oh my, it’s hard.
“Huff, Taebeom, you know, ha….”
I couldn’t bring myself to run after hearing I shouldn’t run in early pregnancy, but just climbing the stairs two at a time left me short of breath. As I grabbed Taebeom’s arm, panting, he looked at me with a surprised face.
“What’s the big rush.”
After examining my condition carefully and confirming there were no issues, Taebeom’s face finally returned to normal. He wiped my sweat-covered forehead.
“Huff, ha… I had something urgent to ask you.”
“Go ahead.”
“Uh, Taebeom?”
Suddenly my feet were off the ground. Taebeom had lifted me up in his arms. His face had hardened stiff.
“I’m… fine now though?”
Taebeom, who had strode into the room, set me down on the bed. He knelt on one knee in front of me, bringing his gaze level with mine.
“Yuwon. You really aren’t hurting anywhere?”
Taebeom looked me over from head to toe, then asked with a worried face.
This… Why is he so serious?
“…Huh?”
I was taken aback by Taebeom’s sudden reaction. No, I had planned to ask him first as soon as I saw him, but he beat me to it.
Is this guy really psychic?
I looked at Taebeom with suspicious eyes, wondering how he knew everything every time.
“Why did you go to the hospital.”
“How… do you know that?”
Were you monitoring me again? I narrowed my eyes and glared at him, but he didn’t show any signs of being intimidated. As if it was natural.
No, I know attaching people to monitor me is a stalker’s basic principle, but still, this isn’t right. After fighting with me like that.
I put more force into my glare. Taebeom poked my puffed up lips, then said with a serious face:
“I heard you haven’t been eating well lately. Change clothes. We’re going to the hospital first.”
Taebeom got up and took out a thick jacket from the closet. My anger at him having someone tail me was momentary, and I was flustered by the abruptly changed situation.
To the hospital? Absolutely not!
“M- My digestion was just a little off so I went, but there’s nothing wrong! They said I’m totally healthy!”
I grabbed Taebeom’s hand and shook my head vigorously, but he glanced down at me and put the jacket on me.
“No. You’ve lost too much weight. I was thinking I should take you to the hospital anyway.”
As he said that, Taebeom’s hands sped up putting the remaining sleeve on my other arm. No matter how much I said I was fine, Taebeom was unyielding. Seeing as he was about to drag me right away, I reflexively shrank back. If I went to the hospital like this, he might find out I was pregnant.
No. First I need to ask why Seolah is here…!
I abruptly grabbed Taebeom by the collar.
“Listen to what I have to say first!”
Uh… This isn’t it.
I just wanted to say it with a bit of force so I grabbed his collar, but why does it look like I’m clinging to him?
I loosened my grip on Taebeom’s collar and lightly smoothed out the wrinkles I had made on his shirt.
As if he had never been serious, Taebeom snickered with a dumbfounded look.
“You, you have to button it up well… It’s still, really co…ld out. Haha.”
I had barely unbuttoned one of Taebeom’s buttons, but I buttoned his shirt up to his neck and forcibly pulled the corners of my mouth into a smile.
“Ah, anyway! Can’t you listen to what I have to say first? I said I have something to ask you.”
I quickly changed the subject and chewed my lip. Taebeom said he was listening and took out lip balm from the jacket, then applied it to my chapped lips.
That, well, I haven’t used it much…. I rolled my eyes, afraid he would scold me for not using it properly. He clicked his tongue and wiped the lip balm smeared around my mouth.
“What? Taebeom, are you listening to me?”
As I blinked and shook Taebeom’s hand, he looked at me with a playful face and asked:
“Yeah. What is it that you want to ask so badly you’re even grabbing me by the collar?”
Is it because it’s been a while since I’ve seen him…? Gosh, he’s as handsome as ever. I spacing out, staring at Taebeom’s face with its intense features, then gulped.
“I… saw a woman earlier… Can I ask who she is? Why is she… here…?”
As I hesitantly brought it up carefully, Taebeom’s face hardened for a moment, then quickly softened.
“Ah, Ms. Yoon Seolah. You met her already?”
…So she was Seolah after all. I felt my face, which had been trying to act calm, stiffening slightly. I secretly wiped my sweaty palms on my pants. His touch gently sweeping back my hair was soft, but I couldn’t erase the tension.
“I was going to tell you about it later anyway.”
“…What is it. Can’t you tell me now-”
Right as I asked with an anxious face.
“Hyung-nim!”
I heard Secretary Junseok’s urgent voice from outside the door. Taebeom let go of my face and turned his head.
“The chairman collapsed!”
The secretary, upon discovering me, stopped in his tracks and looked back and forth between Taebeom and me with a flustered face. Then he spoke again in an urgent voice.
“Hyung-nim! I think you need to go to the hospital right away. They say the cerebral aneurysm has expanded significantly. It’s an emergency situation that could rupture at any time!”
“Yuwon. I’m sorry, let’s talk later. For now, don’t leave the house and stay put.”
At the secretary’s words, Taebeom excused himself to me and left. Bits of conversation about Chairman Kwon’s condition could be heard from afar. The situation seemed more serious than I thought, so I couldn’t hold him back. Left alone like that, I plopped down on the bed and buried my face in the pillowcase strongly permeated with Taebeom’s pheromone scent.
“…What the heck was he going to say….”
***
Chairman Kwon. In other words, Taebeom’s father Chairman Kwon ended up going into emergency surgery. Fortunately, it wasn’t severe enough to require a craniotomy, but it was such a delicate surgery that they didn’t know exactly how much longer it would take, I was told.
“So the young master will probably be a bit late today.”
“How late…?”
The secretary handed me a cookie with a troubled face.
“Well… He probably won’t be back until early morning. They say the surgery is taking longer than expected, perhaps because of the chairman’s age.”
“I- It’s nothing too serious, right…?”
“He originally had a cerebrovascular condition, but he’s healthy otherwise, so you don’t need to worry too much.”
I had been worried the long surgery meant something extremely serious, but hearing he was healthy otherwise gave me some relief.
“Anyway, since the young master said he’ll come after seeing the chairman wake up, you should go to bed early, Mr. Yuwon.”
I knew it was because the chairman was ill, but I felt deflated at the words that I wouldn’t see him again today. If only the chairman would recover quickly so I could meet him…. I just stared at the Jedi cookie Taebeom had left me. I rubbed my eyebrows drooping from feeling down.
Ah. Should I just ask the secretary?
“Mr. Secretary! Do you happen to know who that woman I saw earlier is?”
“Well… Haha….”
There was no way the secretary wouldn’t know who Seolah was, but he avoided my gaze and held back his words. If you’re going to tell me anyway, just say it quickly. I stuck out my lips in a pout and bit into a cookie. Drinking the warm milk the secretary heated up for me with the cookie made me drowsy.
“Mr. Yuwon. You need to brush your teeth before going to bed.”
“Oh, yes….”
As I was dozing off with my eyes half closed, the secretary held out a toothbrush. I brushed my teeth with an embarrassed face.
The toothpaste is strawberry flavored…?
Is he really treating me like a preschooler, using kids’ toothpaste and all.
After rinsing my mouth with water, the lingering strawberry scent in my mouth wasn’t as bad as I thought, so I clicked my tongue. Glancing around, I saw the strawberry toothpaste placed next to the one I usually used.
Well… It’d be a waste not to use it…. It definitely wasn’t because the original toothpaste was too spicy and I liked this one. Anyway, this toothpaste would be exclusively mine from now on.
I deliberately set an alarm and got up early in the morning, but Taebeom still hadn’t returned. They couldn’t possibly still be doing surgery at this hour. I hurried downstairs and approached Secretary Junseok in the living room.
“Mr. Secretary, is Chairman Kwon’s surgery not over yet?”
“No, I received word that it ended well early this morning. But it seems you’ll have to wait a bit longer since the chairman hasn’t woken up yet.”
Phew… Thank goodness. My heart was still pounding loudly from the shock of thinking the surgery still wasn’t over. Then again, I let out a deep sigh at the words that I still had to wait longer for Taebeom. I couldn’t help it since the chairman was ill, but… Still, I was in a hurry to plan for the future.
“Ah! Mr. Secretary. Can I, can I go to the hospital too?”
“You, Mr. Yuwon?”
“Well, my stomach… No, my head hurts a little.”
I was about to say my stomach hurt, but afraid my words would come true, I quickly grabbed my head and pretended to be sick. The secretary took out his cell phone with a serious face and checked my complexion.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
“N- Not a lot, just a bit…?”
I showed him a tiny bit with my fingers, then added a word, worried he wouldn’t take me to the hospital if I said that.
“But Taebeom is at the hospital too, right? I w- want to see him first.”
“Yes, then I’ll let the young master know in advance so that can happen.”
It worked. Then I’ll get an answer from Taebeom about Seolah first and think about it then. I had to tell Taebeom, the baby’s father, about the pregnancy anyway.
But… what if Taebeom really tries to kill me…?
