Is It Forbidden to Bully the Heroine of the Novel? - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Jiang Yao didn’t notice anything amiss with her actions as she sat by the window, enjoying the gentle breeze and flipping through her notebook. It was the notebook she had brought from home, intending to spend the whole day at Moonrise Pavilion to avoid giving Murong Qing any opportunity to find her.
Song Muyun obediently ate as she was asked, but her mind couldn’t help replaying the light touch she had received earlier. The sensation lingered and made it difficult for her to enjoy her meal. Finally, she set down her chopsticks and approached Jiang Yao with caution. Her voice was as gentle as water when she spoke, “Miss Jiang, I’m quite full now.”
Lost in her notebook, Jiang Yao reached out to touch Song Muyun’s stomach. Feeling a slight bulge, she expressed some satisfaction. “If you’re full, don’t force yourself. Would you like to read the notebook with me?”
Song Muyun blushed slightly but nodded. Jiang Yao gestured, “Go get a stool.”
Although the rocking chair was spacious enough for both of them, Jiang Yao didn’t want to overstep any boundaries, considering they had just met. So Song Muyun obediently fetched a stool and sat beside her.
The low windows at Moonrise Pavilion allowed them to easily catch a glimpse of the outside scenery whenever they lifted their heads. Numerous vendors could be seen selling hairpins, wooden carvings, food, and various items.
“Oh, the view from this room is quite lovely,” Jiang Yao suddenly commented.
Song Muyun looked up but could only see the bustling crowd outside. It occurred to her that Jiang Yao seemed to enjoy lively places. She had often seen her in crowded markets before. Nodding in agreement, she said, “Yes, it is.”
Jiang Yao turned to examine Song Muyun’s delicate and serene face, her gaze attentive. Song Muyun felt momentarily stunned and a bit embarrassed, so she lowered her head. Then she heard the clear voice of the woman above her, “What are your thoughts on this notebook?”
Prior to today, Song Muyun never read books. Whenever she had free time, she engaged in needlework, played the zither, or wrote. Books were a novelty to her. If it weren’t for Miss Jiang offering it, she might have never read one in her lifetime.
Now, Miss Jiang asked her opinion about the book… She hesitated. Since Miss Jiang had been reading it all along, she must like it, right?
Song Muyun’s eyes shimmered. Clutching her snow-white, slender fingers around her handkerchief, she softly said, “I think it’s very good. Miss Jiang chose a great book.”
Jiang Yao:…
Upon reading it herself, she discovered that the plot of this book somewhat resembled Song Muyun’s future experiences. Both involved a female protagonist falling into a brothel, being noticed and troubled by the male lead, experiencing both fondness and disdain for her identity, enduring several instances of bullying and abuse, even losing a child, but eventually ending up together…
In her eyes, the male lead was simply despicable! She couldn’t bear to read further, but what did Song Muyun say?
She said it was very good….
Jiang Yao couldn’t believe it and couldn’t help but ask in shock, “You think this is good?”Song Muyun looked blank. If it wasn’t good, why had she been reading it all this time?
Feeling a bit uneasy, she still nodded softly and said, “It’s good.”
Actually, she didn’t quite understand the content. Jiang Yao read too fast for her to catch up.However, after she said that, Jiang Yao became angry.”This is good? This is good?!”
Repeating the question twice, Song Muyun saw Jiang Yao looking somewhat angry. She had to consider another possibility: did Miss Jiang think it wasn’t good?If it wasn’t good, why was she reading it?
Jiang Yao felt disheartened. She never expected Song Muyun to like this kind of book. It seemed she might end up liking Murong Qing in the end; there were signs of it, which was quite normal.
No, she couldn’t accept it!
She had to change the strange preferences of this little fairy!Who would be bullied by someone and still end up liking them? Wasn’t that an illness?
Jiang Yao couldn’t believe it. She pointed to the scene in the book where the female lead was being whipped and showed it to Song Muyun, “Look carefully, the male lead is constantly beating the female lead. Do you still think it’s good?”
She couldn’t understand it.Song Muyun confirmed that Miss Jiang didn’t want to hear her say it was good. Although she didn’t understand why she kept reading the book, she thought it was distasteful.
She carefully examined the scenes Jiang Yao pointed out, lifted her eyes, shimmering with light, and looked at Jiang Yao, speaking softly, “I didn’t pay attention before. Now I see that the male lead isn’t good enough for the female lead.”
“Hmph.”Jiang Yao snorted softly, displeased with what seemed like a brief response from Song Muyun. Accustomed to being straightforward, she didn’t bother beating around the bush and asked directly, “Is the Seventh Prince treating you similarly? Will you ever come to like the Seventh Prince?”
Song Muyun widened her beautiful eyes, a flash of disgust passed through them. Jiang Yao, who was staring intently at her, carefully examined her.
In an instant, her heart settled. It’s good to dislike Murong Qing. Continuously disliking him was good. There were many good men in the world; Murong Qing was insignificant.
Song Muyun lowered her head and didn’t notice the fleeting joy in Jiang Yao’s eyes. She simply said, “The Seventh Prince is a dragon and phoenix among men. How could someone like Muyun, a mere woman in a brothel, aspire to him?”
She was satisfied with the answer, but she didn’t like the way it was said.Jiang Yao tossed aside the unpleasant book, leaned back in the rocking chair, and even mentioning Murong Qing was full of disdain. “Although Murong Qing has the status of the Seventh Prince, in my opinion, he’s not as good as you. He’s two-faced and his appearance is average at best. He’s not worthy of you.”
Upon hearing this, Song Muyun’s heart suddenly raced. She gazed at Jiang Yao blankly, not expecting her to say these words. Murong Qing was highly esteemed as the Seventh Prince, while she was just a fallen daughter of a disgraced official in an entertainment house.
Anyone would say she wasn’t fit to be compared to the Seventh Prince, but Jiang Yao said that the Seventh Prince wasn’t fit for her.Why did she… think like this of her?
Song Muyun dared not dwell on it, and her ear, like white jade, gradually turned red again.
