Is It Forbidden to Bully the Heroine of the Novel? - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Jiang Yao loved hearing Song Muyun stand up for herself, feeling so proud that her tail could almost wag up to the sky. She glanced at her younger brother, finding him utterly annoying. “Didn’t I tell you to take Princess Heyi out? Hurry up and go.”
She had no interest in entertaining the little princess. Heyi was spoiled and far from the obedient nature of Song Muyun.
Jiang Huai wore a mournful expression, looking at the equally displeased Princess Heyi. He pitifully pleaded with Jiang Yao, “Sis, come and play with us. It’s so difficult to take care of Princess Heyi. She’s so picky. Don’t leave me alone.”
Completely forgetting the smack on his head, he now looked at his sister with puppy eyes, hoping she’d change her mind.
Heyi, behind them, was fuming with rage. Her voice carried anger, “What are you saying? Who’s difficult to take care of? Clearly, you wanted to take this princess boating, and I, as a princess, how could I possibly go boating with a bunch of men? Use your brain!”
Jiang Yao glanced at Jiang Huai, finding him quite brainless. Having such a brainless brother was just her luck.
Jiang Huai continued to argue, “What’s wrong with taking a boat ride together? Didn’t we say we could call more girls for you?”
Princess Heyi replied, “If you’re calling courtesans, then I’d rather not go!”
Jiang Yao: …
Frustrated, she decided to call some courtesans to accompany the princess.
Infuriated, Heyi ignored the currently most foolish Jiang Huai and shifted her gaze to Song Muyun, immediately adopting an arrogant tone. “You’re Song Yunqian’s daughter. We’ve met.”
Song Muyun lowered her gaze, offering another bow. “Yes, Your Highness.”
“Hmph, this princess didn’t expect your father to look so honest but capable of deceiving and harming the people.”
Song Muyun remained silent but her eyes grew colder. Her father hadn’t done such things.
Others might not know, but as her father’s daughter, she knew he hadn’t engaged in such actions.
Jiang Yao frowned, feeling uncomfortable. Her father hadn’t spoken ill of Lord Song, and now this? How could she not feel bad for the little fairy?
“Jiang Huai, take care of the princess. Take her wherever she wants to go. We’ll leave first.”
Unable to endure it any longer, this princess was full of sarcasm. Jiang Yao had been protecting Song Muyun daily, unwilling to see her upset. Why should others bully her? Even sarcastic remarks counted as bullying!
Just as she was about to pull Song Muyun away, the hand holding hers gently tugged back. Song Muyun’s eyes dimmed slightly, but she remained gentle as she softly said, “We haven’t finished eating yet. Don’t waste it.”
Her gaze fell on the wontons, and Jiang Yao followed her line of sight.
Indeed, hers were almost gone while Song Muyun still had a full bowl.
The little fairy had excellent manners and didn’t want to waste food. Jiang Yao could only nod in agreement. “Alright, take your time. No rush.”
Then she turned around and coldly ordered, “They say the flower street lights up at night. Jiang Huai, take Princess Heyi there.”
Jiang Huai usually dared to tease Jiang Yao, but once she was serious, no matter how brave he was, he wouldn’t provoke her. He muttered a few words quietly, realizing he was bullying the younger one, obediently turning around to take Princess Heyi to light the lanterns.
Princess Heyi didn’t want to light the lanterns. Her seventh imperial brother had asked her to stay with Jiang Yao today, but… sniffle sniffle, seventh imperial brother, Jiang Yao is so scary. Her face looks so fierce. She dared not disobey.
Once Heyi was taken away by Jiang Huai, Jiang Yao reverted to being gentle. She turned around, sat down, and watched Song Muyun eating her wontons in small bites. Her tone was warm and kind, “Take your time, it’s all yours. We’re not in a hurry.”
She even reached out to pat the furry head in a motherly manner.
Song Muyun paused while eating her wontons. Beneath the cover of the night, her face turned slightly red. Once she finished her bowl, tiny droplets of sweat appeared on her nose due to the steam.
Jiang Yao had finished eating earlier. Seeing Song Muyun like this, she took out her own red handkerchief and wiped her sweat and mouth, her movements so natural.
Song Muyun felt shy, not daring to look at Jiang Yao, but her hand was naturally held, leading her to a stall selling paper lanterns.
The lanterns were beautifully crafted, catching Jiang Yao’s eye immediately.
Though she didn’t like these somewhat useless things, she felt that Song Muyun might like them.
The crimson silk lantern was embroidered with exquisite snow plum blossoms, containing a small red candle inside that illuminated the flowers.
Jiang Yao immediately bought it.
Standing behind Jiang Yao, Song Muyun looked at the lantern and then gently bowed her head in gratitude. “Thank you. But don’t be unhappy. From now on, I’ll protect you.”
Beautiful lantern in hand, Jiang Yao handed it forward, smiling as she looked at Song Muyun. “It’s for you. Don’t be upset. I’ll protect you from now on.”
The beautiful lantern was passed over, and Song Muyun, looking down, felt a mix of emotions. Besides her family, Jiang Yao was the only one who had given her things, many things, and even promised to protect her…
Her slender, white fingers held the lantern. Apart from her family, Jiang Yao was probably the only person who would treat her so kindly and well in the world. If someone treated her so affectionately, so kindly, she might not find another like it in the world.
If it had been a man, she might have suspected ulterior motives. But Jiang Yao was a woman. Why would she be so good to her when she couldn’t give her anything in return?
There seemed to be a thin mist in Song Muyun’s eyes, looking at Jiang Yao with a sense of grievance, asking in a trembling voice, “Why me? Why are you so good to me?”
Jiang Yao was stunned, subconsciously supporting the girl whose body seemed about to collapse. She seemed to want an answer, something that would let her accept this kindness.
She couldn’t say the things from her dreams out loud. After a moment of silence, she reached out to touch Song Muyun’s hair, her voice a bit heavy, “There’s no reason. I just feel you shouldn’t live like this, shouldn’t be bullied by anyone. I’ll get you out of here.”
Get her out of Muyong Qing’s quagmire.
For the sake of the Jiang family and for Song Muyun.
Song Muyun held Jiang Yao’s hand tighter, the folds on the deep red sleeves becoming more pronounced. Her eyes, glistening, were fixed on Jiang Yao as she asked, “Do you feel sorry for me?”
