Is It Forbidden to Bully the Heroine of the Novel? - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
◎Complaint◎
Jiang Yao hadn’t left since lunch. The money she gave was enough to keep Song Muyun company for the whole day, so why leave?
She couldn’t bring herself to do something so extravagant.
“How about a novel reading together?”
Jiang Yao motioned for Song Muyun to join her.
Song Muyun obediently approached and cautiously sat on the side.
Most people who visit the Moon Pavilion are looking for pleasure, but Jiang Yao didn’t seem to be one of them.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have spent money to have her company just to read a storybook together.
Song Muyun seemed a little confused, but she didn’t bother to ask, so didn’t know how to answer.
Jiang Yao was thoroughly disgusted by the problematic novel she was reading, and she only did it to remind Song Muyun: “If Murong Qing treats you like this, will you still like him?
It’s no good to like a man who mistreats women!
Luckily, Song Muyun seemed to have made up her mind after promising not to like Murong Qing. Otherwise, Jiang Yao wouldn’t hold back her displeasure.
By the time the two of them had finished reading the storybook together, the sun had begun to set. The dim light cast its golden glow onto the streets outside. Jiang Yao stretched lazily before asking Song Muyun, “Does Murong Qing usually come to see you in the evening?”
Song Muyun paused in her movements as she stood up. Then she resumed her calm demeanour, walked over to the table, poured herself a cup of tea, and shook her head. “The Seventh Prince rarely comes in the evening.”
With that, Jiang Yao was tired of being cooped up in this room.
Jiang Yao took the tea, drank it in one gulp, wiped her mouth and said, “Well, I’ll go back for now. I’ll visit you tomorrow.”
Song Muyun looked at her, her eyes inexplicably bright. “Miss Jiang, are you also coming tomorrow?”
“Well, to see you. Here, take this. You served me well today.”
She took out a pouch containing some silver coins from her pocket.
Song Muyun bit her thin lips lightly, her face flushed slightly. She didn’t take it, just muttered, “I didn’t serve you at all. Instead, you read me the storybook and even treated me to lunch.”
The meal was something only the top courtesans in the district could enjoy. No one had the courage to order it for her. Her father was still a condemned minister, and she had almost never received any rewards from Murong Qing. It had been a long time since she had eaten such delicious food.
Jiang Yao: Why does she seem so easily satisfied? That won’t do!
She said seriously, “When someone invites a girl, it’s for her company. Even if the storybook is unpleasant, if you’re willing to read it with me, isn’t it worth it? Besides, if I hadn’t invited you, you’d probably be resting in the courtyard. As for food, if I invite you to spend a day with me, it’s only natural that I provide food for a day. It’s all very ordinary. Take the money, don’t deprive yourself on ordinary days. Look at how thin you are; I could probably encircle your waist with just one hand.”
Jiang Yao glanced at her waist and felt a little jealous, but she controlled herself. After all, it was only the second day of their acquaintance, and she didn’t want Song Muyun to misunderstand her character.
Jiang Yao stuffed the bag of silver coins into Song Muyun’s arms, waved her hand, turned around and left.
Song Muyun stood in the room and watched as the woman’s slender figure gradually disappeared. Finally, the slight doubts in her mind were resolved. Jiang Yao really invited her because she wanted to help her and was afraid that she would suffer at Murong Qing’s hands…
In the steam-filled room, the woman took off her clothes, revealing a snow-white neck, but her body was covered in scars. Some of the wounds were so deep that they would leave life-long scars if not properly treated and cared for.
Song Muyun submerged herself in the water and calmly looked at her scarred body. Jiang Yao asked if she liked Murong Qing. How could she? She deeply resented Murong Qing, how could she like him?
How could Murong Qing be worthy?
On the other hand, Jiang Yao was called away as soon as she returned to the Jiang residence.
Jiang Heng was dressed in ordinary clothes. Although he was getting older as he sat there, he still exuded an indescribable elegance and handsomeness. He was quietly sipping tea. When he saw Jiang Yao come in, he nodded and gestured for her to sit down.
“Dad, what do you need?”
Jiang Yao sat down carelessly and Jiang Heng drank his tea calmly. Raising his eyes slightly, he looked at her and said calmly, “I hear you’ve been visiting the Moon Pavilion a lot lately?”
…
“Was it Murong Qing who told you?”
Jiang Yao wished she could put a sack over Murong Qing’s head and give him a good beating.
You and your big mouth! You couldn’t stand to lose, so you had to complain, right?
Jiang Heng raised his eyebrows slightly, “Regardless of who said it, what are you doing in the Moon Pavilion? Are you following the example of others, seeking pleasure?”
The Moon Pavilion was a well-known place in the capital for extravagant spending, frequented not only by men but also by women who acted freely.
Jiang Yao glanced around, then shrugged, “It’s not convenient to discuss this here. Let’s talk in your room.”
Jiang Heng paused in his tea drinking, his long sleeves moving slightly in the wind as he stood up, “Very well.”
A few dim lamps lit the study and it was dark.
Jiang Heng stood behind the desk, casually leafing through a book. Somewhat helplessly he said, “Speak up. Going to a brothel and making it look so serious.”
Jiang Yao had originally wanted to practise martial arts. She had a whip in her hand and used to knock on the table with it. But Jiang Heng raised his eyes and stopped her. She straightened her back and stood more properly.
Her father had been involved in court affairs for many years, and there were things she didn’t want to hide from him. Perhaps telling her father would lead to better advice.
“Did Murong Qing tell you that I went to the Moon Pavilion?”
Jiang Heng held a book with a blue cover in his hand and tapped on the table, neither confirming nor denying, “First, tell me why you went to the Moon Pavilion.”
Jiang Yao understood. She knew it was Murong Qing, that petty schemer, who was making a complaint. He was trying to use her father to put pressure on her, wasn’t he?
Dream on!
Feeling increasingly angry, she looked at Jiang Heng and said, “Why don’t you ask Murong Qing how he knew your daughter had gone to the Moon Pavilion?
Jiang Heng frowned, “Don’t always involve Murong Qing. If someone hears about it, they’ll think you have no manners.”
Jiang Yao was taken aback and forced herself to hold back. With a wry smile, she said, “Fine, fine, fine. Seventh Prince, Seventh Prince. Don’t you know how exaggerated the Seventh Prince can be? He’s usually seen as a noble and righteous gentleman, but I unexpectedly saw him enter the Moon Pavilion. Inside, he was actually assaulting a woman!”
Jiang Heng’s brow furrowed even deeper. He obviously didn’t believe it.
“The Seventh Prince is eloquent and has always been polite. How could he go to an entertainment house and assault a woman?”
Even if he wanted to hit someone, wouldn’t he do it in his own residence? Why go to an entertainment house with so many people and eyes watching?
Jiang Heng couldn’t believe that Murong Qing could do such a stupid thing.
Jiang Yao sneered coldly, “Appearances can be deceiving, Father. Do you know who he hit? It was Song Muyun, Song Yunqian’s daughter, who had just been released from prison. She was miserable enough when she fell into the Moon Pavilion, but the Seventh Prince still beat her. When he saw me, not only did he not stop, he even asked me to join him. Is that what a decent person does?
Jiang Yao’s eyes showed a hint of contempt.
Jiang Heng’s expression became even more incredulous, “Why would the Seventh Prince hit Miss Song? I’ve heard that you and the Seventh Prince have been clashing a lot lately. Is there a conflict between the two of you?”
He thought that Jiang Yao and Murong Qing had a disagreement, hence the complaint. This made Jiang Yao very angry. She slapped the table, which was made of the finest Huanghuali wood, causing a small crack to appear. Jiang Heng’s temples began to twitch.
Just as she spoke, “If you don’t believe it, send someone to investigate. My words hold no falsehood. The Seventh Prince is a two-faced hypocrite. In the future, you should avoid conversing with him too much, lest you become unwittingly used. Well, I must go practice martial arts now. Take your time to think.”
” Wait.”
When he heard his daughter’s words, he said, “Whether the Seventh Prince has such a temperament or not, the dignity of the royal family is more important than anything else. Next time, don’t be so rude.”
By saying that, he already believed half of it. The rest would be investigated, of course.
Jiang Yao’s lips suddenly curled into a smile and her voice became a bit more cheerful, “Okay, okay, I’ll be more careful next time. I’ll treat him like a respectable prince as long as he doesn’t try to steal from me.”
