Chapter 83: Secrets between girls
“An angel and I, becoming friends…?”
While Lily-san murmured to herself, I seized the opportunity and switched my equipment from the maid outfit to Sky Dancing Rondo. Then, I launched a preemptive attack on her while she was still defenseless.
I scattered the golden liquid, The Melting Water Waterlord, towards her. In the space surrounded by tall bookshelves on both sides, it was difficult to avoid this area attack.
“Fu!”
As a final blow, the wind power of The Wind Maiden Sylph caused The Melting Water Waterlord, to disperse even more finely, increasing its range and speed.
“That liquid! Isn’t it the same one from back then?”
As the acid, which melted The Big Slime, splashed onto her, Lily-san reacted to my attack.
As long as she was blocked by the walls of bookshelves on both sides, there was only one way for her to escape from The Melting Water, Waterlord. An evasive action upwards.
Lily, like an acrobat, kicked the bookshelves to the right and left and jumped up into the air with her high physical ability, which she had also displayed during The Big Slime battle. As she tried to land on the top of the bookshelf to the right, I spoke to Fu again. At the same time, I kicked the ground, receiving the benefits of the dress, Sky Dancing Rondo, my body floated up in a single breath.
“What the heck!?”
Lily, who was about to land on the bookshelf with her feet, was pushed slightly by the gust of wind caused by Fu and lost her balance. And her delicate body fell.
‘Alright, it went well.’
All of my attacks were calculated.
Based on my previous observation of her agility and the field blocked by bookshelves on both sides, I could easily predict her movements in this situation. Furthermore, in the air, she could not even move, and I have a significant advantage thanks to Fu and the dress. Moreover, since her equipment is limited to a bow, a close battle is my stage to dominate.
I had already switched my title from Experienced Witch to Rebel Who Cuts the Vanguard. In other words, in addition to a critical hit rate of 50% on the first strike, I can also add 20% more damage to Lily-san, who is at a higher level than me.
With everything prepared, I aimed for her falling body and brandished my shortsword.
“First strike, I’ll take it!”
“How naive! Binding Chain Arrow, Jade Arrow.”
Completely off-balance, she suddenly shot an arrow backwards as she fell.
I wondered if it was an act of desperation, but I reconsidered that she had activated an ability. However, I just continued to charge forward without weakening the momentum of my jump.
“I’m sorry!”
Without missing the target, my short sword slashed through Lily-san’s upper body.
…or that was what I thought would happen, but as expected of Lily-san, who had a lot of experience in PK kills. Just before I attacked with my short sword, her body showed a jerking movement, as if it was being pulled by something.
“What?”
In mid-air where she shouldn’t be able to move, she moved to the left and diagonally back.
Upon closer observation of her, I noticed that she was holding a chain in her right hand, which was rapidly shortening in length. The arrow she shot earlier was attached to the chain, allowing her to move herself by extending and contracting it.
“It’s humiliating for me to use an emergency evasion ability against you.”
She landed successfully this time, kneeling on one knee while looking bitter. However, a new arrow was already attached to her bow, and she was full of intent to counterattack.
Receiving her aggressive gaze head-on, I also wore a sharp smile.
“From here on out, it’s the real deal.”
It seemed that I would have to be on the defensive this time, as she had easily put distance between us.
Apparently, this battle would not be a walk in the park.
I made up my mind to take an MP recovery item called Forest Medicine to fully utilize the power of Fu, and attempted to move through the air to avoid her arrow’s aim.
However, an entity appeared that would ruin our fight.
It was a light that illuminated the room in a pale blue color.
Two Luna Homunculi, the False Souls Longing for the Moon, floated softly into the library, breaking down the door that led to the room with a shock wave.
One, two, three, five of them — eerie blue souls began to drift into the library one after another.
This was bad.
I had to fight them and PvP with Lily-san at the same time.
But now that they appeared, I couldn’t just ignore them.
Once the battle had started, our fighting spirits was not low enough to put the sword back in its sheath.
“Leave it to me, the junior officer here!”
Suddenly, the cry of RF4-you, also known as Yuji, who I had completely forgotten was even there, echoed. It seemed that he was going to help protect our fight.
“Even if it means consuming all my MP, I will fulfill my defensive duty!”
Yuji boldly proclaimed his determination to the Homunculi around him, making him seem somewhat reliable.
“This is the moment when the intense friendship between beautiful girls is nurtured! I won’t let anyone interfere! Wall Sewing!”
Then, he stuck to the wall with a strange crawling posture.
“Appeal!”
Surprisingly, Yuji seemed to have learned the same ability as Yuuki the tank. He activated a skill that attracted the attention of the enemy and was trying to draw the Luna Homunculi.
“Cockroach Operation, start!”
Dressed in a black butler suit, Yuji moved around the wall with a rustling sound, and frankly… he looked a little creepy. His swift movements up, down, left and right, skillfully avoiding the attacks of the homunculi, were exactly like “G”.
“I want to see the moment when the beautiful girls fight, their clothes loosen, and they become provocative! More, more! I want to engrave it in my eyes, so I won’t miss a single second!”
“Wow…”
“I don’t know what to say…”
“Yeah, well… Let’s just not worry about him.”
Lily-san and I murmured to each other, watching his actions.
Even though I had thought for a moment that he was reliable, I was now completely exasperated with him.
Anyway, thanks to his efforts, we were able to prevent a large number of Luna Homunculi from coming towards us. However, he was unable to guide all of them, and there were still a few coming towards us.
“It’s only a matter of time before this place is filled… Should we settle this, Lily-san?”
“Oh my, isn’t it still too early to have tonight’s main dish?”
I retorted sharply to her relaxed demeanor.
“Do you mean to say that with such a weak spotlight, you can’t even showcase your own brilliance?”
I directed a slight jab at the her strong self-centeredness.
“Oh? Don’t you mean the same thing for yourself?” she retorted.
Our attacks crossed each other – Lily-san’s arrow and my Melting Water Waterlord – and they were both nullified by the bookshelf turned wall.
“No, no, Lily-san,” I continued to address her while maintaining air superiority. “It means to become a captive of this stage.”
I held the upper hand in this battle. I was the organizer of the stage, and I took to enjoying the fight rather than clinging to which side is stronger in terms of brute force, even if it was for a short while.
“What nonsense…you’ve left yourself open!”
In the library illuminated by bluish-white light, I flew through the air, dodging and countering with my shortsword and Melting Water Waterlord against the Homunculus, keeping a close eye on Lily-san’s movements, who was also shooting arrows at me.
Buff Friendship of the Wind Fairy activated.
I slightly flinched from the graze of the arrow but retaliated with Launching Fireworks (Small) towards her.
“As you requested, I will increase the spotlight that shines on you!”
The recoil from the fireworks threw me backwards, but it was also convenient as it helped in avoiding a Homunculus.
A loud explosion and countless sparks filled the air.
It was unexpectedly refreshing to launch fireworks indoors without any hesitation.
“Tama-ya!”
The attacks and evasive maneuvers sparkled in the dazzling library.
“Your Excellency! Your artillery fire risks significantly lowering our troops’ morale by involving our allies!”
“Hey, you! Isn’t this going too far!?”
Hearing the two scream, I, together with Fu, simply chuckled.
My smile deepened as I watched a Luna Homunculus rush towards Lily-san, possibly attracted by the fireworks’ light.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it, Fu?”
“Sparkling! Let’s make them sparkle more!”
The previously tranquil and
decaying library was now filled with particles of light.
A long battle then ensued, with Lily-san and a large number of Homunculus facing each other.
