- Chapter 1.2 - Truth System at Your Service (2)
“… I know that Director Song has always valued Sister Liu the most. He even personally guides you every night. So, Sister Liu, could you please speak up for me?” Despite the continued look of pleading on Ning Chuchu’s face, a hint of coldness flashed through her round, narrow peach blossom eyes.
Hearing this, Liu Mei’s face changed drastically. She stared at Ning Chuchu with a mix of astonishment and suspicion, trying to find any clues on her face.
Something was odd with Ning Chuchu’s words. Did the latter discover her relationship with Director Song?
Liu Mei fixed her gaze on Ning Chuchu, but it seemed like she was genuinely just complimenting her, leaving Liu Mei uncertain for a moment. With a stern expression, she responded unhappily, “What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t have any personal relationship with Director Song.”
Deep down, Ning Chuchu sneered, but on the surface, she obediently nodded. “I know, Sister Liu. You’ve always kept yourself pure and maintained a good distance from all the men in the industry.”
Ning Chuchu’s charming expression was enough to evoke sympathy, but Liu Mei was disgusted by it.
Aside from her “youthfulness,” professionalism and purity were also labels she often marketed herself with. Ning Chuchu’s words were indeed correct and appeared sincere, but Liu Mei could sense a hint of irony in them.
Liu Mei intended to gloat over Ning Chuchu’s misfortune, yet she was the one who ended up unhappy. Moreover, she constantly suspected that Ning Chuchu knew about her relationship with Director Song. Was she subtly threatening her just now? Liu Mei’s schadenfreude quickly faded, and she forced a smile as she made some perfunctory remarks before swiftly taking her leave.
Ning Chuchu’s lips curved into a gentle and shy smile as she watched Liu Mei walk away. She stared until Liu Mei’s figure disappeared, then her smile faded, replaced by a hint of disdain and disgust.
What made these monsters and demons think they could step on her? She wasn’t easy to bully.
“Sister Ning…” The young assistant called out in a loud voice, standing behind her and feeling somewhat at a loss.
Ning Chuchu quickly adjusted her expression and gently patted the assistant’s hand. In a soft voice, she said, “It’s fine, continue massaging my shoulders. You’ve worked hard.”
The assistant’s spirits were lifted, and she continued to serve her beautiful employer diligently.

Late at night, in the hotel.
Ning Chuchu had just finished showering and was lying lazily on the bed in her bathrobe. Her figure was graceful, her slightly damp black hair cascading down. Her exquisite face was devoid of expression, and her eyes were even colder.
This cold, aloof appearance was a far cry from her usual gentle and fragile “green tea” image.
She quickly skimmed through the numerous insults directed at her online, her delicate eyebrows furrowing tightly.
Ning Chuchu’s slender and fair fingers propped up her forehead as she squinted her eyes in contemplation.
Originally, when she participated in that dating show called “Love Destiny,” she intended to form a CP to generate some buzz and increase her popularity. With her ways, even if she didn’t stand out, she wouldn’t have ended up being publicly criticized as a “green tea.”
But everything was so inexplicable. Ning Chuchu hadn’t even had time to react before her reputation plummeted in an instant.
Of course, she couldn’t simply accept this fate. Recently, she had been searching for ways to salvage her public image.
Her reputation in tatters, her endorsement deals were being snatched away, and there was even the possibility of losing her role in the drama—not to mention the open and covert mockery she was receiving from others.
If it were any other celebrity, their mentality would have long since crumbled. But Ning Chuchu, on the other hand, could keep herself composed in front of others, skillfully evading the mockery or challenges thrown at her. Anyone who saw her couldn’t help but acknowledge her strong mental fortitude.
However…
Ning Chuchu suddenly turned her head and stared deeply at the wall right next to her bed. On the other side of that wall was Liu Mei’s room.
Ning Chuchu let out a cold laugh. Liu Mei had better not provoke her again, or else…

The next day, the recently started production of Endless Immortal Path decided to hold a press conference.
The director, representatives from the production company, and the main cast took their seats one by one, facing a group of reporters holding cameras and microphones.
Compared to Liu Mei, who was wearing a formal attire, Ning Chuchu, who played the second female lead, was extremely low-key. She wore a simple white dress, and her long, seaweed-like, thick black hair flowed loosely over her shoulders.
In fact, her appearance was quite strikingly beautiful and alluring. However, her light and natural attire, along with her gentle and graceful expression, perfectly masked the intensity of her features, exuding a delicate and ethereal fragility.
Just as Ning Chuchu took her seat, a strange mechanical sound suddenly echoed in her mind.
“Target Ning Chuchu detected… System binding in progress… Beep, binding successful!”
“Truth System is at your service.”
Ning Chuchu’s was slightly taken aback, and her heart suddenly raced. She discreetly looked around, but everyone else seemed completely normal as if they hadn’t heard that strange mechanical sound.
Was it an auditory hallucination? Ning Chuchu wasn’t sure.
She was somewhat concerned about this so-called “system” and “binding,” but the press conference was about to begin, and she didn’t have the spare mental capacity to get to the bottom of it. Ning Chuchu’s gaze slightly hardened as she temporarily pushed aside that strange mechanical sound, preparing to focus her energy on dealing with the press conference.
Ning Chuchu didn’t want to attract attention, so she tried her best to reduce her presence. However, the media wouldn’t let her off the hook.
“Miss Ning, your stepsister recently came forward to defend you, saying that many times you’re not intentionally lying, but rather habitually showcasing your best side to the audience. What are your thoughts on this?”
“Your stepsister said that when you were young, you were not sensible and often targeted her. Is that true?”
“‘Love Destiny has only aired one episode, but your reputation has plummeted. Will you continue to participate in this dating show?”
…
They bombarded Ning Chuchu with these annoying and unreasonable questions, leaving her with a headache and increasing frustration. However, she had to maintain a composed and elegant demeanor in front of the cameras, concealing any hint of dissatisfaction.
Ning Chuchu had experienced many ups and downs in her career, so she wasn’t flustered by these sarcastic and unfair questions. She was planning to handle them as she always had, using a mixture of truth and lies to brush them off, ensuring that no one would have anything to say.
However, before Ning Chuchu could respond, Liu Mei spoke up, “On certain matters… Please don’t ask things we already know and touch on Chuchu’s sore spots. She has been going through a hard time recently, her complexion has worsened. Journalist friends, please be a bit gentler.”
Liu Mei adopted a gentle and considerate posture, seemingly defending Ning Chuchu. However, Ning Chuchu’s eyes instantly turned cold.
“Ask things we already know?”
She hadn’t even had the chance to clarify certain rumors, and Liu Mei directly assumed that everything the journalists said was true?
Liu Mei’s repeated covert attacks on her were becoming increasingly annoying for Ning Chuchu. Unfortunately, she was involved with Director Song, and Ning Chuchu didn’t want to lose this role, so she couldn’t confront Liu Mei.
Ning Chuchu leaned closer to the microphone, wearing a business-like smile, and said politely, “Thank you, Sister Liu, for your concern. Do I really look so bad? That might be because…”
Ning Chuchu was about to brush it off as usual, but an unexpected event suddenly occurred.
The long-silent mechanical voice of the system reappeared: “Beep! Detected host’s intention to lie. The Truth System is officially activating the compulsory correction program—”
Ning Chuchu’s mind went blank, and her words were no longer under control.
“It might be because… Sister Liu and Director Song’s passionate noises during the night are too loud. I couldn’t sleep at all, which is why my complexion has worsened.”
Everyone: “Holy shit!”
Ning Chuchu: “…?!”
Help!!!
