Chapter 10: Homeward Bound
On the long journey of life, we pause, only to better move forward. We let go, only to grasp something better. We all experience trials and tribulations on our journey home.
After this winter passes, when spring blossoms bloom; you! Will you be able to find yourself again?
In this materialistic world of extravagance and fleeting beauty, our eyes are blinded by material possessions. We blame money for causing harm, but is it truly money that’s at fault? Perhaps; it’s not money that harms, but the human heart, always feeling dissatisfied, always feeling unfulfilled.
They say money isn’t everything, but without money, nothing is possible. However, oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller once famously said: “Even if you strip me of all my clothes, leaving me with not a single penny, and throw me into the heart of the Sahara Desert, as long as two conditions are met; give me some time, and let a caravan pass by me, before long, I will become a new millionaire.”
When you see others receiving applause, you say: They are so amazing. They are amazing, indeed, but more than that, they have courage, the courage to start anew.
Life’s journey is long, who hasn’t stumbled? Who hasn’t fallen?
Believe in yourself. Even if you fall a thousand times, rise again as that most confident flower. Believe that there will always be a season that belongs to you.
Live confidently as if you have two hundred years, and you’ll be able to conquer anything. Confidence isn’t narcissism or bragging; it’s the constant encouragement you give yourself when facing challenges: “I can do this. I will succeed.”
After countless failed attempts to invent the light bulb, Edison said, “I haven’t failed countless times. I’ve just found countless ways that won’t work.” If one attempt fails, try again. Success will eventually come.
Yesterday, Meng Jinfei’s act of cooking and bringing food for Guoguo touched her deeply. She secretly rejoiced, thinking this was the first time, but perhaps not the last. There would be many more times, wouldn’t there?
That evening, Guoguo asked Meng Jinfei what he was up to, thanking him for the delicious meal he’d made the day before. Meng Jinfei, busy on his phone, saw the message and immediately replied, “Hmm.”
“I made you dinner today too,” he typed back. “Can I bring it over?”
Guoguo declined, saying she had already washed the lunch box from yesterday and he should come pick it up. Meng Jinfei then inquired about her cold, and Guoguo replied that she was feeling much better, thanking him for his concern.
Meng Jinfei responded playfully, “I don’t just ‘guanxin’ (care about) you; I want to ‘kaixin’ (open) your heart.”
“Not ‘guanxin’, but ‘kaixin.’ Got it!” Guoguo laughed. Though they were chatting online, they could both sense the other’s happiness.
Guoguo then asked if he was coming over. She was hoping to see him in person. Meng Jinfei replied that he was already downstairs and would be up soon. Guoguo excitedly rushed to the door, but Meng Jinfei was nowhere to be seen. Feeling a bit disappointed, she assumed he hadn’t come and closed the door again.
Meanwhile, Meng Jinfei was about to head upstairs when he received an urgent call. He quickly ran up, left the food at Guoguo’s door, and left. He sent her a message: “I have something to take care of. I left the food at your door, come out and get it. It’s a bit urgent, no need to reply.”
