Genius Wizard Conceals His Origins, which started serialization last December (T/N: Dec. 2023), has now concluded.

This is my second completed work, and along with it, I’ve achieved the modest feat of neatly matching the word count for all chapters, so I’m more than satisfied…!

During the serialization, I had many thoughts about what to write in the afterword, but I’ll convey only the necessary content in a neat summary!

Below, I’ll share some minor and possibly boring stories, so feel free to read only if you’re interested.

#1 – About the Story

As you might have guessed, this story drew many motifs from Albert Einstein’s life story in both major and minor aspects. Additionally, in terms of story structure, I had thoughts like “I hope it becomes like Harry Potter and The Sound of Music…”

I thought the charm of Harry Potter lies not just in the magic, but in how the characters, including the trio, grow older together and build their narrative. So that by the conclusion, the past days feel nostalgic…

Those who have seen the movie The Sound of Music know that there’s a serious part in the latter half where Nazi troops appear. But it never goes too deep. Because the main focus of the story is still family!

I hoped this story would have both of these advantages, but while some parts turned out well, others left room for improvement. While writing, there were times when I thought “Even I think this part is crazy,” and other times when I felt “This is quite lacking…”

Nevertheless, if you readers have enjoyed this story, I’m simply grateful. It’s a story that could exist solely because you all read it (_ _).

Most of the names of supporting characters are also combinations of surnames and given names of actual people in the science field, so it might be fun to look them up when you have free time. *1

Just as the Avengers can be thoroughly enjoyable even if you don’t know each character’s name, I wrote diligently hoping that this writing could be an interesting story in itself, even for those not interested in science or such!

It’s all thanks to you readers that I could run to the conclusion.

Although I don’t know when I’ll be able to greet you again due to my upcoming military enlistment, I’ll come back with another interesting story.

I will reread this writing hundreds of times throughout my life, and each time, I’ll be happy.

Translator’s Note: The End

As I did! I probably missed some other references, so if you do find some, let me know in the comments. Looking back, Johannes Born might have been a combo of Johannes Kepler’s and Max Born’s names.

Here’s a quick backstory on how I came to pick this novel up. My close friend in real life, Ruminas, who used to translate here on Galaxy Translations but had recently moved, was picking a novel to translate after he had finished “If you don’t love me, I will die.” He showed me a list of potential novels he was planning to take, but among them, the novel with a cover of a gray-haired man in a brown suit leaning on a blackboard with Maxwell’s equations caught my eye for obvious reasons (reasons I mentioned at the very beginning). I immediately showed my interest in the novel and begged him to give it to me; he was somewhat reluctant to do so but I eventually convinced him with the leverage of the success of his prior translations by saying that leaving this for me was the least he could do for me as a beginner. That’s how I began translating this along with I Became the Maid of the Lout Prince, while he, from his original list, chose “Just Because I Have Narrow Eyes Doesn’t Make Me a Villain!”, which became quite a success on this site.

Other than its appeal to those interested in scientific concepts and fans of sci-fi in general, I love how this novel appeals to the audience. Despite it being heavily theoretical in some chapters, just like in The Queen’s Gambit, or even Arcane, knowledge of the main subject is not necessary to enjoy the novel for what it is. My T/Ns explaining the formulas or ideas presented are to help you appreciate the additional layer of enjoyment that comes when these are understood, but even without these, it’s a story that is easy to follow and understand.

Now that the novel is fully translated, I can say that I don’t expect it to be the most commercially successful novel, and that’s not the most important thing for me. I picked this up with the purpose of my enjoyment as a reader studying engineering in college, and I am generally glad with how my translations turned out. Only time will tell what happens next, but for now, I’ll be focusing on translating I Became the Maid of the Lout Prince as I have been.
