Devouring Angels with Demon’s Sword - Chapter 9
The Eternal Night Cloak of the Archangel, far denser than that of the Lower Angels, clashed violently with the Flying Slash Spada, scattering intense sparks.
“Haah!”
Gazing at the sight, I swiftly followed up with a second strike, not pausing for a moment.
“Not yet, not yet!”
Then came a third slash, a fourth, and a fifth.
Pouring every last bit of my strength into each swing, I kept unleashing the Flying Slash Spada.
──That spear. That thing is seriously dangerous.
Just grazing the tip of that spear would likely cause instant death by electrocution. It’s a concentrated mass of electricity, akin to a lightning strike.
If I gave that monster even a moment to act, I’d be a goner for sure.
──A preemptive strike. Good call, if I do say so myself.
The Archangel had only just been summoned here into the Detached Cell. It was not yet at full power.
I had to overwhelm it before it could switch gears. There was no other way to win; I was certain of that.
So, I kept attacking relentlessly, even as my vision blurred and nausea threatened to overwhelm me.
This difficulty was nothing short of a cruel joke.
“…Haa… hhh…”
I could no longer gather blue flame energy into the sword after the seventh Flying Slash Spada.
The Body Enhancement Extra deactivated against my will, my limbs grew weak, and I collapsed to my knees.
The taste of blood filled my mouth.
It felt like the kind of exhaustion that sets in after sprinting to your absolute limit.
I couldn’t even lift the Demon Sword anymore; the tip scraped against the black stone floor.
“Haa… haa… cough, cough!”
Even breathing was a struggle.
It was safe to say I was completely spent.
But──I couldn’t afford to collapse here.
“Guh… ngh…!”
I knew. It wasn’t enough. Not yet.
So at the very least, just one more hit. One more strike.
If I gave it my all and still failed, I’d accept that this was an unbeatable game.
“Fuuuuh…!”
I staggered to my feet, turning once again to face the Archangel.
The creature was still immobilized, pinned by the seven Flying Slash Spadas.
But that would likely last only another ten seconds or so.
This was my first and final chance.
Gripping the hilt with both hands, I strained desperately, trying to cloak the blade with blue flame energy.
Something flickered in the corner of my vision at that moment.
<>
Drawn by the sounds of battle, the last Lower Angel that had originally been inside the Detached Cell stepped into the hall.
“Hah…!”
A stroke of luck, or help from heaven itself.
I made a bad pun in my mind and dashed forward.
I had no energy left to fully activate the Body Enhancement Extra.
So, I focused the power solely in my legs, instantly closing the nearly ten-meter distance.
“Give it to meeee!!”
Raising the sword tip high, I channeled all my remaining strength into my right arm and slashed.
Even in my tattered state, the strike was startlingly sharp.
The impact was so faint that it felt like I’d missed entirely.
The bisected torso fell, leaving behind a smooth, mirror-like cross-section.
Before the severed lower half could topple, the body disintegrated into particles of light, each one absorbed by the Demon Sword, causing the blade to pulse.
“Heh…”
It was like drips of water landing on a completely dried sponge.
Just a tiny bit, but some vitality returned.
“────”
I readied the Demon Sword, turning to slash as I spun around.
Gathering all the blue flame energy I could muster, I released it with every ounce of strength I had left.
“Aaaaahhhhhh!!”
Upon releasing the strike, I noticed a faint trace of silver mixed within the crescent-shaped blue flames.
I had no idea what this phenomenon signified.
“Go…!”
The tenth Flying Slash Spada of the day hurtled toward the monstrous creature without missing a beat.
After a brief one or two seconds of resistance, the blue flame energy, tinged with silver, surged forward, driving into the body of the Archangel.
And finally, it tore through the Eternal Night Cloak──a piercing scream reverberated throughout the hall.
