Devouring Angels with Demon’s Sword - Chapter 20
Demon swordsmen possess a high level of self-healing ability, so most wounds will heal as long as *Extra Body Enhancement* is activated.
Still, it was a good thing I had learned basic first aid, just in case.
—For now, this should be enough.
I tore the apron the woman had been wearing to use as a makeshift bandage to stop the bleeding. The wound was so clean and sharp that, ironically, it worked in my favor, and with a bit of pressure, the bleeding stopped fairly easily.
…That said, the fact that she was still unconscious was a problem. It seemed she had hit her head hard when she collapsed, unable to brace herself as she protected her child.
Hopefully, it’s just a mild concussion, but the stone floors in this place are ridiculously hard. If the cause of her unconsciousness is a brain contusion or something similar, even I wouldn’t be able to help.
And since I couldn’t properly diagnose her, moving her carelessly would be dangerous.
For now, the best option was to let her rest here quietly.
“Mr. Wizard… is Mama all better now?”
The child timidly asked as I paused in my work.
If I were a real magician, I might have been able to heal her, but unfortunately, I’m just a knock-off demon swordsman.
“Yeah. I cast a powerful spell on her, so she’ll get better soon.”
A little white lie. It’d just be a hassle if they started crying again.
“But right now, your mama is very tired and sleeping. Let her rest until she wakes up, okay?”
I wiped the blood from my hands, which had become stained during the first-aid treatment, and stood up. Then, I called my demon sword back into my hand.
“Do you want to go home?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, I’m going to do what I need to do now so you can go home.”
With three taps of my heel on the floor, I reassessed the layout of the area and the positions of the angels. Then, I reversed my grip on the hilt of my sword.
“Don’t move from here. Make sure you protect your mama, okay?”
“Okay…!”
Children tend to follow instructions if you give them a role to fulfill. With this, the kid shouldn’t wander around.
If I had to find a silver lining, it would be that there was only one passage connected to this room—the one I had come through. I had already dealt with the angels nearby, so it should be safe for five or ten minutes.
…
A sudden memory flashed through my mind.
That hideous monster, which had broken through space itself.
If I dawdled here, I might see something like that again.
And with an injured person here, I needed to hurry.
“Seriously… being a demon swordsman is a never-ending grind, isn’t it?”
—
Move, encounter, engage, attack, defeat. Repeat.
After crossing through seven rooms and cutting down the fourteenth *lower angel* (*Angel*), I finally stopped for a moment.
“…I see.”
The combination of the *Demon Sword Body Technique* I’d developed and the increased base stats from consuming all those defeated angels had made me significantly stronger.
At least against *lower angels*, no matter how many came at me, they were no longer a threat.
“With this, I won’t even need to use ‘*Silver*’.”
I really hate using that thing—it’s exhausting. Not to mention, there’s something unnerving about it.
…
“Though, that’s assuming the enemies are only *lower angels*.”
With a tap of my heel on the stone floor, I glanced around at the two corridors that opened up on either side.
Both seemed to lead to much larger spaces than the rooms I had passed through before.
“…This next one should be the end.”
There was no sign of angels on the right. It was probably the room where the *Void Sword* was stuck. If possible, I’d like to retrieve it… but for some reason, the left side was nagging at me.
“Tch.”
The back of my neck prickled. Something felt off.
In the room ahead, where the *core stone* should be, there was something other than just *lower angels*.
“…Looks like it won’t be easy to get out of here this time, either.”
My heightened senses were ringing alarm bells.
They were telling me that there was a monster in there with enough power to kill me.
…But standing around here won’t improve the situation in the slightest.
In fact, the longer I wait, the worse it’ll get.
From the moment I decided to enter this prison, there was no other choice but to fight.
And most of all—right now, I have someone else’s life resting on my shoulders.
It may have been a spur-of-the-moment decision, but since I chose this path, I have to see it through.
“Well then.”
Dragging the tip of my demon sword along the ground, I began walking, deliberately relaxed.
There’s no point in getting all tense. Things will unfold the way they’re going to unfold, regardless.
So I might as well take it easy.
