Devouring Angels with Demon’s Sword - Chapter 15
When demon swordsmen activate their powers, their eyes turn golden and emit light.
Because of that, they can’t practice in most places—they must go to great lengths to avoid being seen.
—
“Huh? Kochou-kun, you’re not eating in the classroom today?”
“…Just for a change.”
—
It was lunchtime.
I’d chosen the rooftop of the school building as my experimental site to test the results of my morning research.
The rooftop is usually locked, a closed-off area where not even the teachers enter, let alone students.
From below, it’s completely hidden from view, and since the school is on elevated ground, there’s no taller building nearby that could overlook it.
It’s also spacious enough—ideal for what I had in mind.
—
“Alright, here goes.”
—
I ran up the wall from behind the school, vaulted over the tall fence, and landed on the rooftop.
Parkour athletes would be shocked at how light on my feet I’ve become.
My physical enhancement ability has increased even more since yesterday.
Maybe it’s because my natural physical abilities have improved, or perhaps the demon sword has fully integrated with my body.
Either way, with such a dramatic change, I’ll likely need some time to get used to it again.
…Well, whatever.
Let’s get started.
—
…
…
…
—
“It’s no use.”
—
I made the demon sword disappear from my hand and let out a small sigh.
During class, I’d secretly watched various martial arts videos.
I’d then adjusted and recreated those moves to fit my body.
I’ve always been good at mimicking others.
On top of that, my current self has physical abilities, reflexes, and concentration far beyond what I used to have.
Thanks to that, I was able to absorb the essence of moves performed by karate masters, boxing champions, and the like after seeing them just once, perfectly replicating them.
…But.
To be honest, none of them are any good.
—
“Guess it’s all about the premise.”
—
Kendo, karate, judo, aikido, boxing, wrestling—they’re all designed for fighting other humans.
None of their techniques assume that your opponent will be an angelic monster.
And none of them are meant for someone with superhuman physical abilities.
In the end, conventional martial arts and combat sports can’t fully harness a demon swordsman’s capabilities.
The fundamental concepts behind their techniques are completely misaligned with what I need.
—
Conclusion: incorporating them is a waste of time.
It might even be counterproductive, giving me bad habits.
I’ve spent the entire morning on this, but the results are disappointing. I’ve wasted the time I should’ve spent paying attention in class.
…Well, at least I realized early on that it was a waste. That’s something, I guess.
—
“But still, what should I do?”
—
If I could watch another demon swordsman in action, it would be much easier, but that’s asking for the impossible.
The Demon Swordsman Association has posted promotional videos on their official account, but the subjects are moving too fast for the camera to keep up, making them useless as study material.
—
“If only I had a practice dummy…”
—
Fighting angels would help me efficiently develop my skills, and defeating them would make me stronger as well.
However, the Heavenly Prison—the only place where that’s possible—is under the strict control of the Demon Swordsman Association.
Only registered individuals are allowed inside.
In other words, I’m just wishing for something I can’t have.
—
“Geez…”
—
With a flicker of blue flame, I summoned my demon sword again and began practicing my swings with physical enhancement.
It’s tedious, but I have no choice but to keep feeling my way through this.
There’s no shortcut—just steady training.
—
…
That’s what I thought, but—
The opportunity for a breakthrough came sooner than expected.
Whether that’s a good or bad thing, though, remains to be seen.
