Devouring Angels with Demon’s Sword - Chapter 10
Dark, viscous blood sprayed everywhere, accompanied by the sickening sound of bones and flesh being sliced apart.
At the same time, the thunder spear gripped by the Archangel shattered, losing its shape, signaling the owner’s demise.
Meanwhile, the Flying Slash Spada, having ripped apart its target, still had momentum left.
Its azure-silver blade collided with the core stone that floated along the trajectory of my slash.
Together, they shattered and dissolved into the air, scattering into mist.
…….
“Is it over…?”
Exhausted to the point where my thoughts were sluggish, I surveyed the suddenly silent surroundings multiple times before I finally began to grasp the situation.
I had survived.
“…I thought I died at least three times.”
I planted the tip of the Demon Sword into the ground and let out a sigh of relief.
It was indeed a narrow escape. Especially the final sequence; it felt almost too fortunate.
I had managed to reach the Void Sword just in the nick of time; what a lucky day. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.
But then again, if I were truly lucky, I wouldn’t have been swallowed by the Detached Cell in the first place.
It’s a case of bad luck, even if I had some luck at all. It seems that won’t help me in gambling. What a shame.
“Mm.”
As I relaxed, the corpse of the Archangel and the shattered core stone began to transform into particles of light.
They were absorbed into the sword, replenishing nearly all of my stamina—no, it was more than that.
“Kah…!?”
The vast amount of thermal energy pouring in through the Demon Sword was incomparable to that of the Lower Angels.
My body, which had felt like it could topple over with a light push, was now filled with vitality.
“Haah, guuh, fuuururururu!”
Fatigue melted away in an instant, overflowing with power that exceeded my limits.
I felt an overwhelming sense of omnipotence, as if I had become the strongest, driving my mind into a frenzy.
Such anger surged within me, creating a chaotic noise in my thoughts.
I struggled to suppress the destructive impulse to smash everything in sight, forcing myself to maintain a blank mind.
“────”
Some minutes passed before I finally managed to calm down, the Demon Sword having consumed every last particle of light.
Before I knew it, I was standing back in the original alleyway—outside the Detached Cell.
“Fuu…”
Taking deep breaths, I carefully surveyed my surroundings.
There wasn’t a single shadow of a person, let alone any sign of life.
As expected, it seemed futile to hope for rescue.
What I found instead was the Void Sword, discarded just before it would have interrupted the fight.
I was relieved that I hadn’t been caught up in the destruction of the Detached Cell. That would’ve turned a fortune into nothing.
“…?”
As I approached to pick it up, I noticed something that had rolled alongside it.
A glossy black sphere, the size of a marble.
It resembled obsidian, but upon closer inspection, it was softly glowing in the darkness.
Thinking I should take it home for now, I stuffed it into my pocket.
Next, I dismissed the Demon Sword, gripping the Void Sword in its place as I stood up.
“What to do…”
I fiddled with my smartphone in my free hand while pondering.
Given the circumstances, I should probably report to the police or the Demon Sword Association, or maybe both…
“…It wouldn’t be too late to do that after investigating a bit.”
I had understood the dangers of being a Demon Sword user well enough in this last hour.
Getting involved with an organization filled with such individuals, especially when I had no clear understanding of its true nature, was something I’d rather avoid.
…….
More importantly, the most pressing issue now was:
──How would I explain this to my sister?
The sturdy fabric had been sliced in a straight line, and blood stained the side of my school uniform.
Though the injuries on my body were healed thanks to the Body Enhancement Extra, the clothes were beyond saving.
──Saying I got caught on a chain link fence… wouldn’t quite cut it…
I let out a sigh.
Eventually, steeling myself, I set off on the way home again.
Hoping that before I reach home, a good excuse will come to mind.
Hang in there, me from a few minutes later.
