Devouring Angels with Demon’s Sword - Chapter 30
A barrage of light bullets flew in from three directions with a subtle time difference.
I crouched deeply, then propelled myself into a jump, using the walls and ceiling to bounce off and evade.
The ceilings of the Detached Cell chamber are high. Since becoming aware of the angels capable of flight, I had also developed a three-dimensional movement style.
“Tch…”
The light bullets were being fired in rapid succession. Since their speed was far beyond my current abilities, I had to predict their trajectories to dodge.
As expected, when both wings are fully deployed, the interval between shots is shorter. I had taken down the Principalities earlier, so I had no way of confirming that.
“Ugh…”
Just one more crossing through the corridor, and I’d be able to join up with the others who had been swallowed. I calmed my racing thoughts with clear logic and set my breathing and heartbeat to the rhythm of a metronome.
“Tan tan, tan… tatatan, tan, tan…”
For about ten seconds, I played the role of a complete receiver, dodging the light bullets while observing the situation. With three samples lined up, I quickly grasped the core essence of their attack patterns.
—Got it.
“Six shots.”
The light bullets from the Principalities had a recharge time of about three seconds after firing six shots.
Moreover, during that time, their movements were significantly slowed down. While their cooperation and staggered shooting made it tricky to read, it became clear when focusing on each individual target.
“Then—”
I changed my trajectory at a right angle, bouncing off the walls like a pinball, and attached myself to the back of the one furthest away.
This particular individual had just entered its recharge phase. The remaining two were blocked from targeting me by this one.
Their intelligence was a hindrance this time. If they had been lower angels, they would have attacked me without hesitation.
Although, given their insect-like intellect, they probably wouldn’t have been able to coordinate their efforts in the first place.
“Migi Nagi Sanban!”
The Principalities tried to distance themselves from me, but it was too late. I severed its neck with precision using the sharp tip of my blade, and while maintaining my momentum, I spun around to prepare for the next attack.
I envisioned sending heat from my palm into the grip. The silver-tinted azure flame energy swirled around the blade.
“Flying Slash Spada!”
I sliced through the torso of the Principalities, which was acting as my shield, unleashing the crescent-shaped blade. Even in a state where the output of my body enhancement had decreased, I was able to cut through easily.
And then— I spun around once more, wrapping the azure-silver energy around the blade again.
“Ugh…!”
Activating the devil sword art while combining it with silver flames, which were ten times more exhausting than normal, was taking its toll. I still felt the fatigue from using the same technique in the chamber before this one.
My vision darkened, and my consciousness began to fade. I knew this was reckless of me, but unfortunately, the azure-colored Flying Slash Spada wasn’t enough to finish off the Principalities.
Facing off directly with a seventh-tier angel was something I definitely wanted to avoid.
Even dodging the earlier light bullets had me inwardly sweating. The fact that I hadn’t sustained any injuries was merely due to taking advantage of their numbers and their resulting carelessness.
However, if I let even one slip away in this situation, the next time, they would surely use their full power to fight back. I needed to take them out all at once to prevent any regrouping.
“──Flying Slash Spadaaa!!”
Clenching my teeth, I poured all my strength into my fingertips and swung the devil sword with all my might.
The azure-silver flame blade released from the tip seemed to have a slightly weaker momentum than the first strike. Yet, it accurately struck its target, landing about a second later.
I sheared through the eternal night cloak, and the metallic sound echoed from the collision with its main body. After a prolonged moment of tension, the two Principalities were each cleaved in half.
