Devouring Angels with Demon’s Sword - Chapter 28
For nearly ten seconds, I felt my inner ear being violently shaken.
As soon as the sensation subsided, I jumped back, clenching my devil sword in my teeth, and took a quadrupedal stance.
While using Body Enhancement Extra, I could easily leap several meters with just the strength of one arm. Through trial and error, I determined that moving on all fours was the most appropriate stance for maintaining all-around awareness and quick response.
The third time I encountered this, I was ambushed as soon as I entered and nearly died. I’m not making that mistake again. And I’m definitely not ruining another school uniform—there are no spares left.
……
It seems there are no angels nearby. I tapped the stone floor with my fingers, listening to the echo bounce back as I slowly stood up.
“…You’ve got to be kidding me.”
A ten-meter-wide chamber, crafted from jet-black stone with no visible seams. By now, this sight had become all too familiar.
This was the fourth time I had been inside a *Detached Cell*.
But—this time, something was seriously off.
“Why was I swallowed…?”
A few days ago, thanks to the acting manager’s connections, I got my hands on some confidential material from the Devil Swordsman Association, related to *Heaven’s Prison*. I didn’t ask how she obtained such sensitive documents—it’s better not to know.
Anyway, I recalled what was written in the report.
When a *Detached Cell* forms, a special energy field distorts space at the coordinates where it appears. However, if a devil swordsman touches the unstable formation, it fails to stabilize and dissipates.
In short, a devil swordsman isn’t supposed to get directly swallowed into a *Detached Cell*. Yet here I am.
“…No, I’ll think about that later.”
After all, *Heaven’s Prison* only appeared ten years ago. That’s far too short a time to unravel the mysteries of the phenomena it causes.
I decided to take the information from the report with a grain of salt and tapped the floor with the tip of my devil sword.
A sharp sound rang out, and I used it to assess the structure of the surrounding space through my hearing.
—But.
“Dammit, this place is huge…”
Compared to the last three *Detached Cell*, this one was on a completely different scale.
Just from what I could tell, there were over twenty chambers. I couldn’t grasp the full extent of it.
But, I had pinpointed the most important thing: the location of the people I needed to find.
“They’re over there.”
Seven people, including myself, had been swallowed by the *Detached Cell*.
If anyone else from the classroom jumped into the entrance that must have opened, that number could increase. Hopefully, no one would be foolish enough to do that.
“…Can I save everyone?”
A chilling sensation crept down my spine. There was a good chance that angels or saints far stronger than the ones I’d faced before were lurking here.
If I encountered them, I couldn’t guarantee I’d be able to protect my classmates.
No. More than that, I couldn’t even be sure I’d survive.
“In case the worst happens… I’ll have to be prepared…”
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the hard object my fingers brushed against.
It was the black stone I had recently gotten back after it had been appraised.
I could’ve sold it off like I did with the *Hollow Sword*, but I’d kept it as a precaution.
Its name was the *Seisei Holy Stone*.
According to the acting manager, it was an insanely rare gem, though different from a *Heaven Stone*.
In simple terms, its power was like a wildcard—something to be used in a desperate gamble.
—It’s best not to play your trump card until the very end.
Hoping I wouldn’t have to rely on it, I shoved the stone deep into my pocket again.
I took a deep breath, exhaled, and let the oxygen circulate through my body.
After a few seconds, I sensed the direction where the group of people were gathered, and I sprinted toward them at full speed.
