Chapter 32: Let’s Learn
When we returned to the base and entered the cave, Kaito and Pola rushed over and hugged me.
“What’s wrong, you two?”
I asked, surprised.
“We heard really loud noises coming from the direction Kotoha-nee-chan went, and you were gone for so long…”
“We were worried you were hurt… But we didn’t know where to find you…”
…I messed up.
Now that they mentioned it, there had been loud noises when the Blackera smashed its fists into the ground and when it fired its beam.
And I had talked to Label for a while after the fight, so I ended up getting back much later than planned.
…I made them worry.
Kaito was fidgeting, and Pola looked like she was about to cry.
“I’m so sorry, you two. I made you worry. That loud noise you heard was probably me fighting, but I’m not hurt, I’m fine. The reason why I was late is…”
As I said that, I glanced at Label.
“Who’s that? Kotoha-nee-chan’s boyfriend?”
Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on. He might be a butler, but as a boyfriend? No way. He seemed high maintenance.
And being called “boyfriend” reminded me of that backstabbing jerk.
Tch, I didn’t want to think about him.
What had happened to them after I jumped?
They probably just ran away.
…Well, whatever.
“No way! This is Label, my butler.”
“…What’s a butler?”
“Someone who takes care of important people.”
Kaito, who probably had a butler back when he was a noble, explained to Pola.
“It is an honor to meet you, Kaito-sama, Pola-sama. I am Label. As of today, I have been appointed as Kotoha-sama’s butler. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
“…I’m Kaito.”
“I’m Pola!”
Kaito responded hesitantly, and Pola, as always, greeted Label cheerfully.
Well, time to eat.
…Speaking of which, should I have Label make it?
And I had something I wanted to ask Kaito.
“Pola, could you take Label to the pantry? I’d like him to prepare dinner.”
“Okay! This way, Label-san!”
“Please, call me Label, Pola-sama.”
Label said, happily following Pola.
From afar, it was a perfect picture of a spirited young lady and her butler.
“Kaito? Are you sure it’s okay for us to have a butler? Does it bring back any bad memories?”
“Hmm? No, not really. My family’s butler always followed Father around, so I don’t remember talking to him much. I’m more curious about how you ended up hiring a butler…”
“Ah, well, about that…”
I explained to Kaito how I met Label and our conversation.
I left out the part about my rebirth.
Label seemed to be on a different level, so it hadn’t really bothered me, but I wasn’t ready to tell Kaito and Pola about that.
♢ ♢ ♢
We had a late lunch prepared by Label.
Label’s grilled meat was the most delicious I had ever tasted. It shouldn’t have been that different from the meat I grilled…
Pola had taken a liking to Label and was currently giving him a tour of the base.
Kaito had initially been apprehensive about leaving Pola alone with Label, but after witnessing Label’s overly respectful attitude towards me, he seemed reassured that Label wouldn’t do anything to harm Pola, a precious member of my family.
I explained to Kaito what I had learned about my race from Label.
When I explained that I carried the blood of the Dragon Tribe and emitted a powerful aura, he gave me that familiar dumbfounded look. It wasn’t my fault…
When Pola returned, I decided to have them practice the 『Physical Armor』 skill.
Both of their clothes, but especially Kaito’s, which had been ripped during his flight, were beyond repair.
Label was already cleaning the entranceway. He really was a butler…
I activated 『Physical Armor』 in front of them.
There wasn’t a spell or anything, I just enveloped my body in sparkling mana and imagined the clothes I wanted to wear.
I changed into a few different outfits to show them.
Kaito and Pola watched intently, then tried to activate it themselves. They were basically just grunting with furrowed brows…
Now that I thought about it, could I use 『Physical Armor』 while 『Dragon Transformation』 was activated?
When I first transformed, the 『Physical Armor』 on my arms and legs had disappeared, but could I reactivate it on top of the transformed parts?
If I could, then I would be able to conceal my appearance.
…I would try it later.
They were both able to acquire the 『Physical Armor』 skill pretty easily.
Kaito imagined the clothes he used to wear as the second son of a noble family, the clothes worn by the soldiers at the mansion, and the clothes of the villagers.
Pola seemed to base her clothes on the various outfits I had shown her.
…Handsome guys and cute girls looked good in anything, damn it!
Anyway, Kaito and Pola’s clothes problem was solved.
The clothes created with 『Physical Armor』 were made of mana, but once created, they remained until they were destroyed or dispelled. The texture and feel were the same as normal clothes.
And they offered a certain level of defense. While it wasn’t as important for Kaito, who could use 『Physical Enhancement』, it was crucial for Pola, who relied on magic.
『Physical Armor』 was such a convenient skill…
And simply by wearing the clothes created with 『Physical Armor』, you were considered to be using the skill, so the skill level increased, though slower than magic.
It seemed like the strength of the clothes increased as the skill leveled up.
Kaito had settled on a simple, comfortable villager style.
Pola, who had little experience with fashion or changing clothes, was excitedly trying on different outfits.
She’s a girl so I wanted her to enjoy fashion, and it was good to see her so happy.
……However, I ended up having to do a one-person fashion show for her, drawing on my memories from my previous life, to give her some ideas.
From elegant dresses to yukatas, maid outfits, and even a witch costume… I transformed into a variety of outfits…
Well, Pola was delighted, so it was all good…
She had finally settled on a frilly, cute dress. It wasn’t suitable for the forest, but it was fine inside the cave.
Label was impressed after looking around the cave and the base.
He explained that dragons didn’t bother creating elaborate bases. They just dug holes and hardened the ground, creating simple nests. It didn’t leave much for a butler to do.
I was glad he was happy with our base.
That night, and every night after that, Label was in charge of preparing meals. Well, he had insisted that it was a butler’s duty, and his cooking was much more delicious than ours, so we agreed.
But since Label was such a good cook, I wanted to gather more ingredients so he could make a variety of dishes. I was hoping to have him make Japanese food, using my memories from my previous life as a reference.
Which meant I needed to gather ingredients…
But besides gathering fruits and such, I needed to do something about my aura if I wanted to hunt…
While Label was experimenting with the ingredients we currently had, I needed to come up with a way to obtain new ones…
I should give it a try tomorrow.
