Chapter 3: I Look Forward To That Day:
“Dad, Mom, Ye Fan and I are going to get the marriage certificate now.” Lin Ruowei said to her parents.
“Huh? Get the certificate? So soon?” Lin Shan and Zhang Ting were both a little taken aback.
They clearly couldn’t keep up with their eldest daughter’s pace.
Just a second ago, Ye Fan was proposing to their youngest daughter, and now, their eldest daughter was about to take Ye Fan to register for marriage… Even Ye Fan himself couldn’t keep up with Lin Ruowei’s sudden decision.
He had been planning to come up with an excuse to persuade Lin Ruowei to agree to get the marriage certificate with him today. It wasn’t that Ye Fan was in such a hurry for the certificate, but one of the system’s conditions required it to be bound to him after registering with Lin Ruowei today.
But now, before he could even say anything, Lin Ruowei was the one who suggested it.
Was Lin Ruowei really in such a rush?
“Dad, Mom, it just so happens that I brought the household registration book with me today, and Ye Fan’s is with me too,” Lin Ruowei said with a smile. “It’s better to act today rather than wait for another day, so let’s go get the marriage certificate now.”
Hearing her sister’s words, Lin Ruoxue’s emotions visibly shifted. “You’ve both brought your household registration books? So, you’ve been together behind my back for a while!” she exclaimed, her voice trembling. “Is this how you repay me?”
Tears welled up in Lin Ruoxue’s eyes.
“Xiao Xue, did you know?” Lin Ruowei said, turning to her sister. “If you had agreed to Ye Fan’s proposal earlier, he would’ve taken you to get the marriage certificate by now.”
“What…?”
Lin Ruowei’s words hit Lin Ruoxue hard, leaving her stunned.
“So Xiao Fan had planned to take me to register today…” Lin Ruoxue froze, tears falling from her eyes.
“Xiao Fan, let’s go.”
“Okay.”
Watching her sister walk away holding Ye Fan’s hand, Lin Ruoxue felt an unbearable ache in her heart. It was as though she had just lost the most precious thing in her life. The man she had loved for four years would never be hers again.
Memories of the good times they had shared flooded her heart, filling her with regret.
“No, I made the right choice! The life I want, the happiness I desire, Ye Fan can’t give that to me! I won’t regret this!” Lin Ruoxue clenched her fists and roared inwardly.
…
Outside the restaurant, Ye Fan gently pulled his hand away from Lin Ruowei’s.
“We’re about to get the certificate, so why can’t we hold hands a bit early?” Lin Ruowei pouted as she walked beside him.
Hearing her complaint, Ye Fan thought about it and realized she had a point. They were on their way to register their marriage after all. Holding hands wasn’t out of the ordinary.
So, Ye Fan confidently took her hand again.
Their fingers intertwined, and a happy smile bloomed on Lin Ruowei’s face.
The two of them got into a red Volkswagen Polo. Ye Fan hadn’t bought a car yet, so this was Lin Ruowei’s vehicle. After locating the nearest Civil Affairs Office on her phone’s map, Lin Ruowei drove them off in her little Polo.
“Are you sure you want to get the certificate with me now? You didn’t decide this impulsively, did you?” Ye Fan asked from the passenger seat as they headed toward the office.
Though the system was important to him, he wanted Lin Ruowei to truly want this marriage. She was a kind person who had always treated him well. He didn’t want her to marry him on a whim, only to regret it later.
Sure, they could always get divorced, but once Lin Ruowei had been divorced, society would label her as a “divorced woman,” which might affect her future prospects in love and marriage.
“Ye Fan, every word I said in the restaurant earlier came from my heart,” Lin Ruowei responded while driving. “But tell me, was it impulsive when you said you were willing to marry me?”
“No.”
Satisfied with his response, Lin Ruowei asked another question, “Do you like me?”
“Sister Weiwei, honestly, I’m not sure if I like you in that way yet,” Ye Fan admitted. “But I do believe that feelings can grow between two people. Once we’re married, we’ll have a lifetime to develop our relationship.”
“I believe that one day, I will love you with all my heart.”
“A lifetime? Ye Fan, do you think we can really spend a lifetime together?”
“Sister Weiwei, I don’t know your view on marriage,” Ye Fan said seriously, “but I have a very traditional view. Once I decide to marry someone, I won’t ever let go of my wife’s hand for the rest of our lives.”
Hearing this, Lin Ruowei smiled. “What a coincidence, we have the same view on marriage.”
“Ye Fan, I’m looking forward to the day when you love me with all your heart.”
“And even if that day never comes, I, Lin Ruowei, will still be satisfied spending my life with you.”
