Chapter 78: I Like You, I Want to Pursue You
On the first day Shen Kuozhi returned to the company, he inspected all of the company’s industries.
He had already conducted the handover with Shen Xiting before, so the handover work didn’t take much time.
The most difficult part was dealing with those restless people in the upper echelons of the company.
However, Shen Kuozhi had his own ways of dealing with them.
Seeing how quickly his younger brother adapted to his new role, Shen Xiting felt relieved to hand over the company to him. Now that Shen Kuozhi had returned, he could finally catch his breath.
Shen Xiting booked a flight to Country M for a week later, as there were still many tasks awaiting him there.
He conservatively estimated that he would only be able to rest for a day or two now.
Shen Kuozhi knew that his older brother had been under a tremendous workload during this time, so after returning, he tried to share a large part of the work with his brother.
But Shen Kuozhi also didn’t forget his promise to Qi Yue. On the second day after being discharged from the hospital, he contacted Qi Yue, preparing to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to handle the divorce procedures.
“Hello, it’s me, Shen Kuozhi. Let’s get divorced today, are you available?”
Shen Kuozhi gripped his phone tightly, suppressing the trembling in his voice as he said these words.
He never expected that this day would really come, and even though he had mentally prepared himself, he still felt sad.
When Shen Kuozhi’s voice reached Qi Yue through the phone, Qi Yue didn’t notice the tremble in it.
“I’m available, let’s meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau. What time are you planning to meet?”
The two agreed to meet at their district’s Civil Affairs Bureau at 10 in the morning.
When Qi Yue actually arrived at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, he felt a sense of melancholy. He hadn’t realized that he and Shen Kuozhi had been married in name for almost a year.
Time flies. Now, there is no longer the Qi Group or the Qi family in the capital.
Qi Yue arrived fifteen minutes early and went into the lobby of the Civil Affairs Bureau by himself.
There were other people in the hall waiting to register for marriage or to handle divorces, all in pairs.
Qi Yue, a tall man, stood alone there. Not only was he alone, but he was also so tall and handsome that he couldn’t help but attract attention.
Fortunately, Qi Yue had deliberately changed his appearance before coming. He wore a casual and loose-fitting T-shirt with short sports pants, and he even wore a sun protection mask and a baseball cap.
With this outfit, even Lin Xiao wouldn’t recognize him.
Qi Yue found a corner to sit down and waited for Shen Kuozhi.
After about five minutes, Shen Kuozhi arrived.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Shen Kuozhi saw Qi Yue at a glance and walked straight over.
“You didn’t, I just got here not long ago.”
Qi Yue stood up and followed Shen Kuozhi to the window for divorce registration.
With the high divorce rate nowadays, even handling divorce procedures requires waiting in line.
The two of them took a number and would need to wait for about half an hour.
After sitting down in the waiting area, they didn’t know what to say for a moment.
They didn’t have the animosity of other divorcing couples, nor the joy of getting married.
Their situation was indeed a bit delicate.
Just as Qi Yue thought they would maintain this silence until they finished the divorce procedures, Shen Kuozhi broke the silence.
“I’m going to get something and I’ll be back soon.”
“Okay.”
Shen Kuozhi had just been discharged from the hospital, and there must be a lot of work waiting for him at the company. Sitting here and waiting for half an hour really wasn’t his style.
Qi Yue thought he had gone back to the car to handle some work, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease in his heart.
This feeling had arisen as soon as he stepped through the doors of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Initially, Qi Yue thought he was feeling happy about these matters coming to an end, or perhaps nostalgic about this absurd journey.
But when he saw Shen Kuozhi’s familiar face, it stirred up a ripple in his heart.
Qi Yue didn’t understand this feeling for the time being, but he subconsciously chose not to delve into it.
Regardless of how he felt now, from today onwards, he would be Qi Yue, belonging only to himself. No longer would he be labeled by others, nor would he need to be enveloped by others’ halo.
“I brought this for you.”
While Qi Yue was lost in thought, Shen Kuozhi handed him a bag from behind.
Qi Yue hadn’t expected Shen Kuozhi to return so quickly.
It turned out he had underestimated Shen Kuozhi. Shen Kuozhi placed the item on the table in front of Qi Yue.
Just now, Shen Kuozhi went to the car to get desserts and coffee for Qi Yue.
Originally, he planned to give them to Qi Yue after they finished the procedures, but he didn’t expect to wait for another half an hour.
Knowing Qi Yue’s habits well, Shen Kuozhi figured Qi Yue probably hadn’t had breakfast yet.
So Shen Kuozhi decided to bring them over from the car, taking advantage of this time to let Qi Yue have them.
Seeing the familiar logo in front of him, Qi Yue didn’t understand what Shen Kuozhi meant by bringing his favorite dessert at that moment.
Could it just be a coincidence? After all, their legal relationship was about to end in less than half an hour, and he had spoken to Shen Kuozhi like that before.
Could it be to celebrate their divorce and regain their freedom? This explanation seemed most plausible.
As Qi Yue speculated about Shen Kuozhi’s intentions, his heart swelled with emotions.
When Shen Kuozhi saw that Qi Yue didn’t react, he unwrapped the packaging for him and said, “Don’t you like it? I thought you would.”
“I do, thank you, Shen Kuozhi. I didn’t bring anything for you.”
Qi Yue felt a bit embarrassed. How could he have thought of Shen Kuozhi like that just now?
Shen Kuozhi didn’t owe him anything. On the contrary, he had taken care of him and helped him a lot. Setting aside their marital relationship, Shen Kuozhi was truly his benefactor.
Qi Yue’s ears turned slightly pink, and he couldn’t bring himself to meet Shen Kuozhi’s eyes directly.
“I wanted to bring it for you. As long as you like it.”
Shen Kuozhi looked at Qi Yue gently and affectionately, revealing the decision he had made overnight.
“Qi Yue.” Shen Kuozhi said Qi Yue’s name seriously yet tenderly.
The moment Qi Yue heard “Qi Yue,” his heart skipped a beat. This was a tenderness he had never heard before, and in an instant, a thought flashed through his mind but left no trace.
“Yes?” Qi Yue replied softly. He didn’t know why his heart was beating so fast at this moment. His sixth sense seemed to be telling him that something big was about to happen.
“I like you. After the divorce, can you give me a chance to pursue you again?”
As Shen Kuozhi spoke, his eyelashes trembled slightly, his gaze gentle yet firm, showing his utmost sincerity.
When Qi Yue’s gaze met Shen Kuozhi’s, he felt like his heart skipped a beat, and then began to race uncontrollably.
Qi Yue felt his face must be rapidly reddening. He didn’t know why Shen Kuozhi’s gaze at this moment didn’t make him feel repulsed, but rather shy.
He even doubted whether he had misheard the words just now.
Qi Yue never expected to hear such words from Shen Kuozhi’s mouth.
The memories of their past interactions quickly flashed through Qi Yue’s mind: a warm night light waiting for him when he returned home late at night, going out of his way to buy his favorite desserts, personally designing suits for him, and occasionally showing expressions Qi Yue couldn’t understand at the time. All of this seemed to make sense now.
While Qi Yue was surprised and excited, he quickly regained his composure and calmly asked, “You like me? Since when? It shouldn’t be before our marriage alliance, right?”
Shen Kuozhi had imagined that Qi Yue might have difficulty accepting it for a moment or question the sincerity of his feelings. However, he never expected Qi Yue’s reaction to his confession to be calmly asking when it started.
As expected of his Yue Yue, always able to bring surprises.
Although Shen Kuozhi really wanted to tell Qi Yue that he had liked him since his previous life, he couldn’t bring himself to say it. In order not to be seen as weird by Qi Yue, Shen Kuozhi gave a safer answer.
“I started to have some feelings for you during our first blind date. When you proposed to sign a contract to work with me, I admired your integrity.”
“Then, during the days we lived together, I got to know you better. I felt that we were like-minded people. When you face those situations, you can still maintain inner softness while fighting back. Honestly, at that time, I envied you. Your inner strength and resilience were admirable.”
Shen Kuozhi paused, leaving the rest for Qi Yue to contemplate.
Since childhood, Shen Kuozhi has been in poor health. Even though he was born into a wealthy family, he didn’t have a normal childhood. While he never lacked material things, he regretted the missing childhood and unhealthy student life for the rest of his life.
So what he had just told Qi Yue was not a lie. He truly admired Qi Yue’s resilience.
To him, Qi Yue was like morning glory, thriving despite wind and rain, born on a cliff but forming a beautiful scene of its own.
Shen Kuozhi’s frank yet subtle words marked the official start of their feelings for Qi Yue and Shen Kuozhi.
Although their relationship began because of a marriage alliance, Shen Kuozhi had always treated Qi Yue with equality.
Qi Yue had also been attracted to Shen Kuozhi, but his current goal was to expand his company and focus on his career, with relationships coming second.
But now that Shen Kuozhi had said that, whether to pursue him or not was no longer a matter of whether Shen Kuozhi wanted it or not.
After eating a piece of cake, Qi Yue said, “Let’s talk about other things after we’re divorced.”
Neither of them expected that they would be doing things that led to marriage while getting divorced.
Half an hour passed in the blink of an eye, and they successfully completed the divorce procedures.
Now, they no longer had any legal relationship.
Although Shen Kuozhi felt reluctant, he knew this was something he had to face now.
His marriage to Qi Yue had originally been based on improper means, taking advantage of a loophole.
He had experimented and realized that such a distorted relationship wouldn’t bring him and Yue Yue closer. Yue Yue was even stronger and more determined than he had imagined.
But now that everything was out in the open, there was a silver lining. He could finally openly pursue Yue Yue.
Although Qi Yue didn’t give a clear response to his confession, his attitude implied, “Go for it!”
