Chapter 74: Starting Over
Qi Yue finally fulfilled the long-held wish in his heart, and the absurd drama between him and Shen Kuozhi should come to an end.
Moreover, Bai Yueguang in Shen Kuozhi’s heart had already returned. His current identity was only hindering their relationship, right?
Was he just a pawn in their game?
Shen Kuozhi probably wouldn’t like to wear the green hat, would he?
Anyway, Qi Yue couldn’t bear this injustice.
[Qi Yue: Shen Ge, let’s get a divorce. We can keep the divorce temporarily private. You can continue to pretend I’m your partner when you need me.]
The message was sent at nine in the morning, but to Qi Yue’s surprise, there was no response even until ten at night.
What’s more surprising was that Qi Yue actually had trouble sleeping because of this.
He lay in bed, closed his eyes trying to fall asleep, but it wasn’t until three in the morning that he finally drifted off.
His sleep was restless, and he dreamed again.
There were only two characters in his dream—Shen Kuozhi in a patient’s gown with short hair, and Qi Yunhan in protective clothing.
Since the first time he met Shen Kuozhi, Shen Kuozhi had always maintained medium to long hair.
He wouldn’t comment on other men with medium to long hair, but Shen Kuozhi’s hairstyle, combined with his cold, delicate face and calm demeanor, was not only outstanding but also exuded a sense of nobility that was difficult to approach.
What’s more, Shen Kuozhi’s medium to long hair didn’t make him appear feminine or soft, but rather hinted at his elegance, giving people a feeling of dignity that was not easy to provoke.
But in his dream tonight, Shen Kuozhi no longer had his signature medium to long hair, but instead had a clean crew cut.
As Qi Yue drifted between dream and reality, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was amiss. He seemed to notice a faint scar on the back of Shen Kuozhi’s head, but he couldn’t be sure if it was just his imagination.
In the dream, Shen Kuozhi lay pale-faced on the operating table, with surprisingly red lips. He was undergoing surgery, and the surgeon was none other than Qi Yunhan.
Qi Yue realized that he was viewing the scene from the perspective of the ceiling in an operating room. The faces of other people were blurry, as if pixelated, but Shen Kuozhi, sweating profusely, and Qi Yunhan, deeply focused on the operation, were clear.
Qi Yue deduced that this was not an ordinary surgery; there was something unusual about it.
Given the many dreams he’d had that came close to reality, Qi Yue couldn’t be sure whether this dream was real or false. He desperately wanted to touch his chest to feel his heartbeat, but he couldn’t wake up from the dream to do so.
Suddenly, a thought struck him. Shen Kuozhi hadn’t responded to his messages all day. Even if he was busy, he should have had time to reply. Perhaps Shen Kuozhi was still unconscious, unable to respond.
As the dream shifted, Qi Yue noticed the room number that flashed briefly. It was the same room where Shen Kuozhi had been hospitalized the last time he fainted.
Qi Yue felt a surge of understanding. Shen Kuozhi was a frequent visitor to the hospital, and the efficiency with which the doctors and nurses had treated him before suddenly made sense. They had likely been lying about the severity of his condition to protect his privacy.
Recalling their last meeting after Shen Kuozhi fainted, Qi Yue realized that Shen Kuozhi’s condition might have been worse than he had thought. He had assumed that Shen Kuozhi’s tired appearance was due to overwork, but now he suspected it was because of his illness.
To verify the credibility of his dream, Qi Yue decided to visit the private hospital where Shen Kuozhi was likely staying. Regardless of their relationship or whether there were any feelings between them, Qi Yue couldn’t accept the thought of leaving Shen Kuozhi alone, especially if he was in poor health.
Hesitated for a moment as he stood before the door of the room. He felt unsure whether to knock; perhaps Shen Kuozhi wouldn’t want anyone to see him in his weak and ill state. On the other hand, if he didn’t talk to Shen Kuozhi now, he would feel guilty.
Taking a deep breath, Qi Yue made up his mind to knock on the door. But before his hand could touch the door, it swung open.
Qi Yue and Qi Weixiong locked eyes, both surprised by the unexpected encounter.
“Why are you here?” Qi Weixiong spoke first, clearly taken aback by Qi Yue’s early appearance.
“I came to see Shen Kuozhi,” Qi Yue replied calmly, though his eyes subtly glanced into the room.
In truth, Qi Yue was taking a gamble with his words. Qi Weixiong and Shen Kuozhi had been childhood friends, and if Shen Kuozhi didn’t want others to know about his condition, Qi Weixiong wouldn’t disclose it either.
By mentioning Shen Kuozhi directly, Qi Yue was testing whether Qi Weixiong believed him or not, whether he could be fooled by his words.
“How did you know?” Qi Weixiong raised an eyebrow, then widened his eyes in surprise as he looked at Qi Yue.
Shen Kuozhi had specifically instructed him to keep Qi Yue’s presence a secret, yet Qi Yue had somehow discovered it first.
“Is Shen Kuozhi awake? I’d like to have a private chat with him. Is that possible?” Qi Yue’s heart raced with anticipation, relieved that he had managed to deceive Qi Weixiong but also worried about Shen Kuozhi’s condition.
Qi Yunhan, seeing that Qi Yue had already discovered Shen Kuozhi’s presence, decided to cooperate. He nodded at Qi Yue and stepped out of the hospital room, closing the door behind him for privacy.
As Qi Yue entered the familiar yet unfamiliar hospital room, he locked eyes with Shen Kuozhi.
Seeing Shen Kuozhi’s condition, even though Qi Yue had seen him in the hospital in his dream last night, the sight of Shen Kuozhi with short hair and looking ill still made his heart ache, moistening his eyes.
Shen Kuozhi, lying on the hospital bed and looking pale, was surprised to see Qi Yue at this hour.
“How did you know I was here?” Shen Kuozhi asked hoarsely.
“I dreamed it. Do you believe me?” Qi Yue replied as he poured some warm water from the thermos and brought it to Shen Kuozhi’s lips.
Although his words might sound like a joke, Qi Yue’s tone was serious, not playful.
Shen Kuozhi thought he knew Qi Yue well; he rarely lied about important matters.
Surprisingly, this time it was a dream that brought Qi Yue here, which intrigued Shen Kuozhi. He further inquired, “What did you dream about?”
“I dreamed about marrying you, about you having surgery, and also… about Qi Weixiong being your secret lover, and you cheating on me within our marriage,” Qi Yue paused briefly before continuing, “But don’t worry, it was just a dream.”
As Qi Yue spoke, he kept his head down, focusing on Shen Kuozhi’s hands outside the blanket, trying to keep his emotions in check.
Unbeknownst to him, the more he spoke, the deeper the surprise in Shen Kuozhi’s eyes grew.
Somehow, these events overlapped with what happened in their past lives.
Qi Yue hadn’t reincarnated like Shen Kuozhi had, but his ability to foresee the future in his dreams was strangely similar to reincarnation.
