Chapter 46: A Little Cleverness, But Not Much
After having breakfast with Madam Shen, Shen Kuozhi and Qi Yue left the old Shen family mansion.
The bustling morning was over, and it was time to return to work. The app developed by Qi Yue’s company had recently passed internal testing and was almost ready for release.
“Are we going to the company?” Shen Kuozhi asked Qi Yue as he started the car engine.
“Drop me off at the south gate of the school. I need to see the counselor,” Qi Yue replied.
“Sure.” Shen Kuozhi nodded as he glanced ahead, casually asking, “Is the app you guys developed ready for release?”
“Yeah, the development is done. We’re preparing for promotion and release now.”
“Send me a copy of your promotional materials once they’re ready. I’ll see if I can help with the promotion,” Shen Kuozhi offered.
“Sure thing.” Qi Yue nodded. Shen Kuozhi’s assistance would be icing on the cake.
Shen Kuozhi had far more connections than Qi Yue and could expedite things more efficiently.
During the journey, they discussed the app, and Shen Kuozhi offered some suggestions for improvement on several aspects of the app.
Qi Yue was surprised that Shen Kuozhi had not only downloaded their app’s beta version but also carefully tested it and provided valuable improvement suggestions.
No wonder the Shen family kept growing; with his business acumen, it was no wonder he made money.
Upon reaching the school, Qi Yue waved goodbye to Shen Kuozhi as he drove away. Once Shen Kuozhi had left, Qi Yue entered the campus.
It had been a while since he last visited the school. Today, he noticed a significant increase in the number of people, indicating some event was taking place.
As Qi Yue passed by the sports field, he saw promotional posters and realized that the school was currently hosting a Cherry Blossom Music Festival.
The school’s cherry blossom garden has opened recently, which explains why there are so many tourists around.
Qi Yue quickly glanced at the cherry blossom garden fifty meters away before hurrying towards the counselor’s office.
Typically, fourth-year students are either on internships or preparing for exams, so counselors usually communicate matters online rather than requesting offline meetings.
Qi Yue didn’t know what the counselor wanted to discuss with him, but he had a bad feeling as soon as he stepped onto the campus.
When he reached the office, the counselor was already waiting for him, accompanied by someone Qi Yue was familiar with but wished he wasn’t.
“Take a seat, let’s talk,” the counselor said with a smile.
The counselor, a middle-aged woman with a friendly demeanor, greeted Qi Yue warmly, but Qi Yue knew trouble was brewing when he saw Yang Ruihuan.
“Yang Ruihuan, what’s the matter for calling me here today? I have work in the afternoon…” Qi Yue started.
“Let this student speak first,” the counselor interrupted, indicating Yang Ruihuan to speak up.
Qi Yue already knew what was coming when Yang Ruihuan began to talk.
“Qi Yue’s conduct is a big problem. He directly sent me to the hospital in the mall a while back. I just got discharged recently, and I still have the pictures from that time! Not only did he not come to apologize or show any remorse, but he also acted as if it was justified!” Yang Ruihuan said, pulling out the pictures and showing them to the counselor. As he spoke, he seemed to become increasingly emotional.
Qi Yue hadn’t expected Yang Ruihuan to bring up this incident after so long. It was quite frustrating.
He had encountered Yang Ruihuan in his sophomore year of college, and apart from the first year when Yang Ruihuan toned down a bit after they met, his persistent behavior afterwards was simply jaw-dropping.
It was something even the counselor was aware of, besides their classmates.
While his persistence was annoying enough, what made it worse was Yang Ruihuan’s neurotic behavior.
They found a group of people to track and corner him, intending to intimidate him into submission, but Qi Yue ended up giving them a beating.
Another time, Qi Yue returned to his dorm room to find it filled with gaudy decorations arranged by Yang Ruihuan. At that time, there was no one else in the room except Yang Ruihuan, and Qi Yue didn’t know how he had entered. Most likely, he had bribed Qi Yue’s roommate to let him in.
After that incident, Qi Yue moved out of the dormitory and rented a house near the school.
These were just some of the minor incidents before Qi Lei arrived at the school. After Qi Lei joined, the two somehow got involved with each other.
Yang Ruihuan wasn’t exactly bright in normal matters, and Qi Lei had blocked him several times before. Qi Yue had grown accustomed to dealing with his rumors and slander.
But Yang Ruihuan’s relentless determination to destroy what he couldn’t have was truly terrifying. Qi Yue already had a strong psychological resilience just by not seeing him.
The counselor was aware of their situation to some extent.
Although the counselor knew Qi Yue’s character, she couldn’t withstand Yang Ruihuan’s persistent complaints. She had even reported the matter to the principal. If she didn’t take any action, it wouldn’t be acceptable.
“Qi Yue, is this incident true?” the counselor asked Qi Yue, looking at the pictures in Yang Ruihuan’s hand.
Qi Yue shook his head and said innocently, “Yang Ruihuan, this is completely untrue. I haven’t seen this student recently at all. How could I have injured him?”
Seeing Qi Yue’s attempt to shift the blame, Yang Ruihuan’s explosive temper was ignited in an instant.
“You still have the audacity to deny it?! I spent half a month in the hospital, just got out recently. Qi Yue, I admit I used to like you. I admired your seriousness, your courage. But I never expected you to be this kind of person. It’s bad enough that you hit someone for no reason, but now you can’t even admit it? You’re really lacking in integrity,” Yang Ruihuan said, shaking his head with apparent disappointment.
Qi Yue raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t seen Yang Ruihuan for so long, and now he suddenly seemed smarter? Whether his intelligence had increased or not, his acting skills had definitely improved.
“Qi Yue, is what he’s saying true? Tell me honestly. If you did it, apologize properly and make amends,” the counselor interjected, trying to mediate between them.
Though Qi Yue understood the counselor’s implication that if he was indeed at fault, he should apologize to Yang Ruihuan and settle the matter privately, he couldn’t just let himself be wronged.
“Student Yang, this student might be mistaken. Apart from dealing with a guy who harassed my friend a few days ago, I haven’t laid a hand on anyone. If I’m lying, may I be struck dead,” Qi Yue said earnestly, glancing at Yang Ruihuan’s reaction.
As expected, when Qi Yue mentioned harassment, Yang Ruihuan’s face stiffened, his eyes darkening.
“Qi Yue, you’re talking nonsense! Where did I harass your friend? It was clearly you and your friend who inexplicably attacked me! Yet you have the nerve to say that!” Yang Ruihuan retorted angrily.
“Teacher, you’ve heard Qi Yue’s confession. He did hit someone, and that someone is me. As for why he hit me, it definitely wasn’t because of harassment!” Yang Ruihuan exclaimed passionately to the counselor.
The conflicting accounts from Qi Yue and Yang Ruihuan left the counselor in a difficult position.
On one hand, the counselor wanted to protect Qi Yue. He seemed quite intelligent most of the time, so why couldn’t he understand her intentions at crucial moments? On the other hand, Yang Ruihuan was someone who could cause trouble endlessly, and the counselor wanted to get rid of such a troublesome person as quickly as possible.
However, the current situation was really giving her a headache.
“If you don’t believe me, Yang Ruihuan, I can go get the surveillance footage. Once you see it, you’ll know who’s right and who’s wrong,” Qi Yue said calmly, facing Yang Ruihuan’s menacing gaze.
When Qi Yue mentioned the surveillance footage, Yang Ruihuan hesitated for a moment, but quickly regained his composure.
“Humph, talk is cheap. If there really is footage, bring it out now. Don’t act all high and mighty here without proof,” Yang Ruihuan retorted.
“Just wait a moment. I’ll contact the staff at the clothing store to retrieve the surveillance footage,” Qi Yue said calmly.
Throughout the conversation, Qi Yue remained composed. After speaking, he picked up his phone and sent a message to Lin Xiao.
[Qi Yue: Lin Xiao, can we retrieve the surveillance footage from that store where I beat up that scumbag last time?]
[Lin Xiao: Why do you suddenly need that footage?]
[Qi Yue: That guy came to complain to my counselor. I told her he harassed my friend, and that’s why we beat him up.]
[Lin Xiao: Damn.JPG]
[Lin Xiao: Alright, wait for me. Even if the records are gone, I’ll find a way to create them for you.]
[Qi Yue: Thanks.]
[Lin Xiao: Is that scumbag next to you now?]
[Qi Yue: Yeah, they’re both here with my counselor.]
[Lin Xiao: Okay, give me some time. At most half an hour, I’ll get the footage for you.]
“In half an hour at most, we’ll have the footage to show you,” Qi Yue said confidently, looking up.
He trusted Lin Xiao. If he said he could get it within half an hour, then he could.
The counselor nodded, cleared her throat, and then said, “Since Qi Yue says there’s footage, Student Yang, do you have any other evidence?”
Yang Ruihuan was momentarily stunned by this question. He hesitated for a moment before hoarsely saying, “I have eyewitnesses! There were people who saw him hit me. This incident cannot be denied. I’ll contact the eyewitnesses from back then.”
“Since both of you have evidence, let’s wait and see the evidence. Please have a seat,” the counselor said, feeling overwhelmed by the early morning commotion. In the end, she could only temporarily leave the matter pending.
As expected, the surveillance footage from Lin Xiao arrived within half an hour, and Yang Ruihuan managed to contact his eyewitnesses.
Qi Yue promptly released the surveillance footage, and the vulgar language Yang Ruihuan directed at Lin Xiao echoed throughout the entire office.
When the video was shown, Yang Ruihuan’s face turned green. He hadn’t expected that after so long, they would still be able to find the surveillance footage from that time, and within half an hour no less.
Not only did Lin Xiao provide the surveillance from the clothing store, but he also sent the footage of the incident where they beat up Yang Ruihuan. Of course, this footage had been edited with technological enhancements to make the scene of them beating Yang Ruihuan less violent, and it certainly didn’t show Yang Ruihuan with any fractures or injuries requiring hospitalization.
Just these two pieces of evidence were enough to shut Yang Ruihuan up.
“Yang, I believe strictly speaking, this student’s fault is greater, right? Not only did he use foul language, but now he’s also falsely accusing his classmate,” Qi Yue said, his gaze sharp as he stared at Yang Ruihuan. Although he didn’t shout like Yang Ruihuan to boost his morale, his presence was undoubtedly much stronger.
“I’ve watched the footage too, and it’s clear that Student Yang didn’t handle this matter well. It seems he deceived me with this video. However, Qi Yue did hit someone, so let’s just have Student Yang compensate for some medical expenses, and let this matter be resolved,” Qi Yue nodded, opening the QR code scanner on his phone. “Alright, I don’t lack this money anyway. Since you don’t even have money for hospitalization, I’ll scan a bit more for you. Whatever you spent on hospitalization, I’ll cover it all.”
