Chapter 28 Building a Career Bravely
By the time they arrived home, it was already past ten o’clock in the evening. Qi Yue woke up shortly after the car stopped.
Opening his eyes, Qi Yue found himself very close to Shen Kuozhi, with his head resting on Shen Kuozhi’s shoulder.
He must have moved closer to him unconsciously after falling asleep. Qi Yue sat up straight after waking up, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Although he had taken a nap in the afternoon, he didn’t know why he fell asleep again after getting into the car.
After Qi Yue and Shen Kuozhi distanced themselves a bit, Qi Yue apologized to Shen Kuozhi.
Feeling the warmth remaining on his shoulder, Shen Kuozhi’s shoulder felt slightly sore, but more than any physical discomfort, he felt fulfilled emotionally.
Shen Kuozhi naturally raised his left hand and reached out to Qi Yue’s head, tidying up his hair, and said, “I should thank you for accompanying me today. You must be tired.”
When Shen Kuozhi’s hand reached towards Qi Yue, Qi Yue’s body instinctively stiffened, but Shen Kuozhi didn’t make any further moves, just tidied his hair and withdrew his hand after a few seconds.
After they returned home, Qi Yue and Shen Kuozhi exchanged greetings and went straight to their respective rooms, with a slight blush on their faces.
Qi Yue felt a bit strange tonight and decided not to get too close to Shen Kuozhi.
The next day, Qi Yue arranged to meet Yang Ling to discuss company matters.
Originally scheduled for around nine in the morning, it was postponed to two in the afternoon because Yang Ling had something to attend to.
Qi Yue arrived at the appointed café at one fifty, and Yang Ling was already waiting inside.
This time, besides Yang Ling, he brought along another man, who seemed to be a student from their school.
“Yue, this is Liu Changfeng, a junior majoring in computer software engineering. He’s a senior this year, in the same class as you. He’s the one I mentioned before, intending to take charge of the technical aspects.”
After introducing Liu Changfeng to Qi Yue, Yang Ling turned to Liu Changfeng and said, “This is Qi Yue, our boss.”
After the introductions, Yang Ling handed over the gift bag he had prepared long ago to Qi Yue.
“As we agreed last time, it’s not easy for us to meet.”
“Haha, thanks, Brother Ling. I feel like vomiting whenever I see you from now on.”
Qi Yue accepted the gift, and the three quickly got down to business.
Qi Yue’s initial idea was to start a company focusing on new media, given the current trend of internet traffic. He believed that with serious effort, it wouldn’t be difficult to make some money and expand the company after entering the industry.
After sharing his thoughts with Yang Ling and Liu Changfeng, they also offered some of their own insights.
With Yang Ling’s dual degrees in finance and law, Qi Yue could confidently delegate the financial aspects to him.
As for Liu Changfeng, whom he met today, although he was only a senior, he had accumulated a lot of internship experience during his four years of university, so they agreed that he would be in charge of app development and code writing.
After discussing for an afternoon, the three of them had roughly outlined the company’s framework.
Once the number of staff needed for the initial stage was determined, it would be easier to decide on the scale of the company’s office.
They talked until after six o’clock in the evening, and then the three of them went nearby to have dinner.
Because they were so engrossed in their discussion, all three of them were in high spirits.
Starting a business for the first time was indeed an exciting thing.
After finalizing their initial plans, Qi Yue bid farewell to the two.
When he arrived home, it was already eight o’clock in the evening. Usually, Shen Kuozhi would be back by this time, handling the remaining official duties in the study.
Upon entering, a warm yellow lamp was left at the entrance, and the living room was lit as well, but there was no one there.
It was left by Shen Kuozhi for him.
Qi Yue’s return time was not fixed, sometimes earlier, sometimes later, but regardless of when he came back, as long as Shen Kuozhi was at home, the entrance and living room lights would be left on.
During his time at the Qi residence, Qi Yue always felt that living alone was the most comfortable thing, but now that he was living with Shen Kuozhi, it seemed quite nice.
While not disturbing each other, there was occasionally a sense of presence.
It didn’t make you feel like your privacy was being invaded, but rather a warm feeling.
Qi Yue didn’t go straight to his room but instead peeked upstairs and indeed saw a faint light seeping through the crack of the study door by the staircase.
He brewed two cups of honey water in the kitchen, took one cup upstairs, and knocked on the study door.
“Come in.”
Shen Kuozhi’s slightly deep and magnetic voice reached Qi Yue’s ears through the door.
Qi Yue gently turned the doorknob and walked in.
This was Qi Yue’s first time entering Shen Kuozhi’s study and also his first time going upstairs.
Qi Yue didn’t look around and went straight to Shen Kuozhi. The reason he came to see Shen Kuozhi tonight was to seek his advice on starting a company.
He hadn’t planned to hide the matter of starting a company from Shen Kuozhi, after all, with Shen family’s connections and information, there was no need to hide it.
Shen Kuozhi was also surprised when he heard the knocking at the door, he didn’t expect Qi Yue to approach him actively, let alone prepare honey water for him.
Shen Kuozhi looked at the fair and slender hand reaching out to him and the cup of honey water in it, suppressing the upward curve of his lips, he knowingly asked, “For me?”
“Yeah, I happened to want some, so I made one for you too. Don’t you like it?”
“I do, thank you~”
Shen Kuozhi took the cup with a smile, but he did so tactfully without touching Qi Yue’s hand.
After receiving the cup, Shen Kuozhi paused before asking, “Is work not finished yet?”
Qi Yue’s voice was clear and cold, giving the impression of a clear spring flowing through a mountain stream, clean and transparent, yet cold.
Others might find his voice a bit too cold, but for Shen Kuozhi, it was the best reassurance.
After Qi Yue left him in his previous life, he often suffered from insomnia. Medication no longer worked, and the only thing that did was the recording of Qi Yue’s last conversation with him.
It was the recording where Qi Yue was determined to divorce him.
Every night, when Shen Kuozhi couldn’t sleep, he would listen to it. It was this clear, cold voice repeatedly talking about divorce in his ears.
Shen Kuozhi was lost in painful memories for a few seconds before he struggled out of it and looked at the person standing in front of him, healthy and graceful. He asked, his own voice unexpectedly hoarse, “Is there something you want to tell me?”
As he spoke, even Shen Kuozhi himself hadn’t expected his voice to be so hoarse.
He cleared his throat and took a sip of the honey water Qi Yue had just handed him.
He wondered if Qi Yue noticed something wrong with him.
“There is something I want to tell you, but it’s not that urgent. I’ll tell you after you finish your work.”
Qi Yue lowered his head and looked at Shen Kuozhi’s desk, twiddling the corner of his clothes with his right index finger and thumb, unaware of Shen Kuozhi’s previous discomfort.
Upon hearing this, Shen Kuozhi closed his notebook, picked up the cup, and walked over to Qi Yue, saying, “Work is already done. Let’s go to the living room and chat, shall we?”
“Okay.”
After receiving Shen Kuozhi’s affirmative reply, Qi Yue released the wrinkled corner of his clothes that he had been rubbing, and followed Shen Kuozhi downstairs.
Once downstairs, Qi Yue asked Shen Kuozhi to wait for a moment while he went to his room to fetch the preliminary plans for the company.
“I want to establish a company, starting with trying out new media. This is the initial plan. Could you take a look and see if there are any problems?” Qi Yue said, feeling a bit awkward after finishing his sentence.
Although he had helped Shen Kuozhi with some tasks, they were all relatively unimportant and easy. So Qi Yue was now just approaching this with a trial-and-error attitude, coupled with a bit of impulsiveness, he had hastily informed Shen Kuozhi of this matter.
Shen Kuozhi didn’t expect Qi Yue to be busy with setting up a company recently, which explained a lot.
For this serious matter, Shen Kuozhi also became serious.
He nodded and said, “Of course, if you have any questions or difficulties in this regard, you can come to me. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed.”
Shen Kuozhi took the plan paper from Qi Yue’s hand and carefully read it.
“Shen Kuozhi, thank you,” Qi Yue sincerely said as he watched Shen Kuozhi’s focused reading.
Shen Kuozhi, as expected of the young master of the Shen family and the CEO of the group, his strength and insight were unquestionable.
He pointed out some places after reading it, telling Qi Yue his insights.
Shen Kuozhi accurately captured the contradictions and loopholes after reading it. Qi Yue felt enlightened after listening.
If it weren’t so late already, he would have sent a message to Yang Ling to continue discussing.
With Shen Kuozhi’s help, Qi Yue circled those areas and made annotations.
At some point, the two were less than ten centimeters apart, and the scent of the snow-capped pine on Qi Yue lingered on Shen Kuozhi’s nose.
Qi Yue bent slightly and continued writing on the paper.
Taking advantage of Qi Yue’s back facing him, Shen Kuozhi quickly swallowed his saliva.
There was no choice; his own wife was too beautiful and fragrant, unknowingly tempting, which was a test for any man with normal bodily functions.
Especially when the beauty was carrying a child, yet he had to endure as if he were a monk.
When Qi Yue finished writing and stood up, Shen Kuozhi approached him slightly and asked softly, “Is there anything else I can help with?”
Qi Yue shook his head, licked his lips with a glistening moisture, and said, “No, thank you.”
“Then get some rest.”
Shen Kuozhi smiled and bid Qi Yue goodnight. After watching Qi Yue return to his room, he got up from the sofa.
If Qi Yue were still there at this moment, he would definitely notice something was wrong with Shen Kuozhi.
This reaction could be detected by any man.
After Qi Yue left, Shen Kuozhi calmed down on the sofa for a while, but ultimately ended in failure. He took a shower upstairs, comforted his little brother in the bathroom, and then relieved himself.
“It’s not that I don’t let you come out, it’s just not the right time yet. You’ll scare Yue Yue like this, understand?”
Shen Kuozhi breathed heavily, touched the pendant on his neck, and then gave his little brother a good lesson.
On the other hand, after taking a shower, Qi Yue sneezed, rubbed his nose, and fell asleep soundly.
