5.the beginning of a new life

I could hear the birds chirping outside my window as I got up from the bed and opened the window. Fresh breeze blew in, and I could smell the scent of the earth and wood.

“It’s a beautiful morning. It’s been a while since I’ve had a good night’s sleep”

Yesterday, after deciding to stay at Mikhail’s house for a while, he immediately showed me around the house and led me to a room where I will be staying.

It seemed to have originally been Mikhail’s grandmother’s room, and fortunately, it still had women’s furnishings and clothes, including a mirror stand and a closet.

Mikhail told me that I could use it freely, and I was grateful for it. After that, Mikhail cleaned the room using wind magic and heated the bath water for me, so I only watched him do it but could not help him.

I felt sorry for making him go through all the trouble, but the moment I entered the hot water, I felt much better. My dirty body was cleansed and I dressed up in clean and comfortable clothes.

After the bath, I felt so exhausted that I went directly to sleep instead of having dinner, and thanks to that, I regained a lot of strength the next day. Today was the day I would have to do something to help and return the favor to Mikhail for helping me.

After washing my face with a tub of water, I pulled out a simple blue dress from the closet and changed into it. Then, I sat down at the dressing table and carefully combed my hair. Compared to the time when I was in the Marquis’s mansion and had maids to prepare me, it was much harder. I don’t have makeup on and I’m probably not as well-dressed as I used to be, but I’m sure I look at least presentable.

After getting ready, I left the room to help prepare breakfast. I could hear noises coming from downstairs, so I thought that Mikhail must be awake and doing something. When I went down the stairs and entered the living room, there was a strange man standing there.

“…… Good morning”

The stranger also had a momentary look of surprise on his face, but greeted me in a friendly manner. I was confused and fell silent without returning the greeting.

‘Who is this? A relative of Mikhail’s? or a disciple?’

He had smooth and slightly long brown-colored hair paired with dark green eyes, a well-shaped nose and a gently curved mouth. From looking at his face, I could see that he had neat and kind facial features but I had no idea who he was.

“I was surprised to see how much you’ve changed since yesterday”

‘I’ve never met you before’, I thought to myself. I’ve never seen him before, but he talks as if we met yesterday, and his voice sounds familiar.

“By any chance…is that you, Mikhail?”, I asked, in disbelief and doubt.

“Hmm? Yeah”

It was Mikhail!!

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know who you were for a moment! I was so surprised…..”

“I didn’t care much about my appearance because I lived alone, but I thought it would be a good idea to look a bit more presentable considering the presence of a lady, so I tried to dress up a little bit more…fashionable”

“A little….”

The change was so dramatic that I could have sworn he was a different person. To see such a transformation, I had to confirm that I’m not having any other misunderstandings, so I asked hesitatingly.

“How old are you now, Mikhail?”

“I’m twenty-four this year. You said you were eighteen right, Lunaria?”

“…Yes. We are six years apart”

I can’t say that I thought he was as old as my father.

“I see. I’ve had very few opportunities to interact with young women in the past, so it may be difficult for me to understand your needs, but if there’s any inconvenience, please don’t hesitate to let me know”

“You’ve been treating me very generously since I arrived. I’m still a bit naïve about this time period, but I’ll try my best to learn more and be of help to you”

“That’s very kind of you. Now, will you help me prepare breakfast?”

“Yes, I’ll help!”

Mikhail looked at Lunaria with a gentle gaze as she replied with a smile.
